I wish I did have more. Wilhelmine married Karl Sommerfeld in 1872 Germany. They and their 3 children came to the US into Galveston in 1882. I don't know the name of the ship, because of course, the information was lost in the 1900 Galveston hurricane.

Some information about immigrants into Galveston was not lost, but the period from about 1880 - 1895 or so was lost. Of course.

So I don't know if other family came with Karl and Wilhelmine or not. Very possible though. I continue to search. I haven't found a death cert on her. I know when and where she died, in 1918 during the flu epidemic.

Do you happen to have a picture of your gg-grandmother. I have a couple of Wilhelmine, and wonder if there might be a family resemblance.

Pat
Hi Pat,
Do you know if Wilhelmine had any sisters? My gg grandmother was married in Austin in 1873 to Gustave Brass, so that would put Wilhelmine and my GGG about the same age. I thought she was from Dusseldorff, but perhaps it was her hubby?? I know that they had relatives in Brenham and she came in the port of Galveston. The story I heard is that she came over with an aunt, so maybe they were cousins.

Thank you so much for the information. I will check out the links. I think there are only a few Bothe lines that were in the US in the early and mid 1800's. I think my Bothe gg grandmother came with aunts and uncles into Galveston. They had relatives in Brenham, TX. I have so little to go on....the passenger list will help.
My ancestor was Amalia Bothe, married Gustav Brass in Austin, Tx 1/1/1873. BTW all of my family is in TX, but we are in CA now.

Sounds like we may have a connection...unless Bothe is a very common name. My husband's g/grandmother was Wilhelmine Henrietta BOTHE born 2 Nov 1847 Germany. She married Karl Fritz SOMMERFELD born 1842 in Brandenburg, Germany. They married abt 1872 Germany.
They immigrated to the US into the port of Galveston in 1882, and then settled in Carmine, Fayette Co, Tx.

I don't have any more info on the Bothe line.

Good Luck
Pat

Hi, Susan
My name's Stephen, I'm half Bothe, my mom's maiden name, my grandfather was Louis Bothe and my great grandfather as well, my 2x great grandfather was named Julius Bothe. In answer to your query, I once found a list through the Mormons online site birth/death records of all three of the above named gentleman. I also found 3 or 4 dozen other Bothes on this list dating all the way back to the 1800s and all of the Louis and Julius Bothes and many of the others on the list had immigrated or died in Brandenburg, Germany, about 90 miles west of Berlin. My Great grandfather had a naturalization certificate on his wall dating from the early 20th cent. and though the INS (now known as) documented his country of origin as Russia, it was a misprint, he had said Prussia, and Brandenburg was in Prussia at the time. I don't know where he was from for sure I never met him. I hope this helps check that site first, here's the link http://www.ancestorhunt.com/mormon_church_records.htm
otherwise your gonna have to just pay for some information. Walther and Herta have the corner on the google market. Take care Susan good luck. btw I'm from the Texas Bothes but I'm in Cleveland nowadays. Stephen

Bothe passenger lists from Germany

Does anyone have passenger list from Germany for Bothe families? I can see this line has stumped us all. It is such a distinct name that we should be able to find more info to connect to Germany, but I'm stuck with 1830's (I think) immigration into Galveston, Tx for Amelia Bothe who married Gustav Brass in Ausin, Texas. She came from GErmany with an Aunt and that's all I know...Any help!
thanks, Susan

Hi,
Unfortunately I don't recognize any of those names...the family I mentioned came from Germany to the US through Galveston, as did yours, but they came in 1882.
And unfortunately, those records were in the group of records destroyed in the 1900 Galveston hurricane, so I don't have any records except what was on the census as to when my husbands g-grandparents arrived in America.
Only one of their two children that came over with them became an American citizen and she never married, and I am in the process of trying to find her naturalization papers, which should be in Austin, as that is where she lived. That would give me a more accurate date, as well as the name of the ship and where exactly it came in from.
Wish I could help more...if I do find more I will post to this board.

Pat
Hi Pat,

I have some sketchy information and thought perhaps your husband's family brought my great, great grandmother over. The story sounds familiar. Her name was Amelia Bothe and she married Gus Brass in Austin, in about 1873. She was born 12/31/1840 in Germany and came to Texas (Galveston is what I was told) with her aunt and uncle. She died in 1928. My grandmother told me that she remembers that her grandmother had relatives in Bastrop. Do any of these names sound familiar?
Milburn Rabense? Bernice Hasler? Robert Jenkins? Swain? Franklin? I know they lived in Brenham before moving to Austin. I have lived in Richmond, Tx all of my life and just moved to Monterey, Ca, so I know Carmine is not next to Bastrop, but close... thought there might be a clue here.

Thanks, Susan Watts

Thanks for the reply. I think your wife and I might be related somehow. When my grandfather, Otto Bothe died years ago, Anne Baark visited the funeral home and seemed to remember my grandmother,Minna. Her maiden name was Nevermann, and she came from Hamburg, Germany. They met in Germany and came to the U.S.about a week apart; I remember them telling us stories about meeting up in America and getting married. Both were from large families, and my grandfather had a brother Hien. I know some of his relatives lived in the central NJ area.If you have any more info, please write. THANKS A MILLION---BOB BOTHE

Hi Bob,
I noticed in your message that you are a teacher and librarian in Bergenfield, which is of interest to me because I am looking for infoa about my mother, Anna Jean Bonham, who was a longtime teacher in Bergenfield. Of course, it was a long time ago...
The Bonham family was well known in Bergenfield from 1920 until the mid-1960s when my g-father sold the family home on W. Clinton Ave. I am seeking records concerning their business on Washington Ave. Most importantly, though, I wonder if you might have access to any yearbooks or school records, photos, etc. which might cover the time period that my mother either attended B'field schools, or taught English there.
Please let me know if you might be able to help, and I'll supply any other facts.
Thanks,
Patti Marino
Roswell, GA

I'm looking for a Clarence Bothe born in Ohio, and lived in Cincinnati. I don't know how this person is connected to my family. I remembered the name from childhood. This name appeares on a burial certificate for an Alvin E. Kendall, who I think might be my grandmothers' brother. Clarence H. Bothe appeared in my research, but your information doesn't show they are the same person. Would there be another relative named Clarence who might fit the above information?

Thanks for your reply. It appears that we are talking about two
separate fellows here. My grandfather came to America in
1882. He sailed on a ship called SALIER on 26 Oct 1882.
From Bremen, Germany to Baltimore, MD. It shows him coming alone at the age of 17, HEIN. BOTE. In his obit
it shows his birth date as Oct 16, 1863, but another source
says maybe 1860. He died in Warrenton, Warren Co., MO
on July 29, 1950. Any help here for prior generations would
be greatly appreciated. Thanks to all for their help. The only
thing that anyone remembers is that he may have been born
in Lippe-Detmold, Germany. Can there be any connection
to the John Adam Bote, who died in the German Army in 1839 or 1841? Thanks, Cheryl

Cheryl

I'm searching for information about Sarah Ellen Andrews Bothe married to William Henry Bothe (a German) in 1877 in Moberly MO. They moved after marriage to Denison TX where they both lived until their deaths and are buried in the Fairview Cemetery. W.H. b: 1850 d: 1930 and Sarah b: 1860 d: 1826. Sarah Ellen Andrews is the daughter of Aaron & Mildred Andrews (of Moberly, MO) and I have reason to believe Sarah may be the sister of my gr-grandmother Katherine E. Andrews Tegler. I'm desparately seeking info on Sarah & Kate's parents - Aaron & Mildred. Does any of my info sound familiar to any other Bothe families.
