I saw your posting from several years ago. I would guess that you have received additional information.

I am related to Mary Jane Bothwell 1824-1897 and Phillip Burgett Blazer 1817-1889. I have much additional information on the Blazer side.

The Bothwell side is not too filled in. Have you had any luck with finding anything on the parents of Sarah Jane Armstrong or George Bothwell?

Liz Stookesberry Myers
Los Alamitos, CA

Iowa BOTHWELLs

In 1873 James (Jim) BOTHWELL, and brother John (Jack), with Jim's wife Maggie Rice and son John E. (Johnny) left their birthplace in Ormstown Quebec and emigrated to Fort Dodge, Iowa USA.
10 years later Jim bought a piece of prairie where he knew the railroad was likely coming through and founded a town 'Gilmore City' which brought the track there, because Gilmore was a Superintendant of the railroad.
From 1885 to about 1930 Jim, Johnny, and Jack had offspring who continued the name BOTHWELL, and daughters who married into many other Surnames. I know that most moved out into the Midwest and farther West USA - probably amounting to 50 to 100 people by now (2006), over & above those that I already have recorded.
If someone thinks that they are descended from the Gilmore City, Estherville, or Pocahontas Co. BOTHWELLs: PLEASE contact me (even if you have doubts) so that we can add your name to our family history which extends back to 1650 in Scotland, and we can inform you of your Ancestry.
[ 3rd party input is invited too, thank you ]
John Bothwell, Family Historian.

County NY-they were early settlers there .Many came from an Early Alexander Bothwell .It gets a bit complicated as they tended to name their 1st born after the father ,etc.so there were a few Alexanders,James,etc running around.Hope this helps.Jim

Sorry!
I just did some research and found I was told wrong. Helen BOTHWELL Krise was not a dau. of James Allen BOTHWELL 1806 - 1888) and 1st wife Phebe BLACKWELL (1809 - 1842).
Instead she was a child of their son, James L. BOTHWELL and 1st wife Sally WARREN.

James A. and Phebe had 7 children, of whom James L. (1830 - ?) was the eldest. The others were:
Thomas B. BOTHWELL;
Nancy BOTHWELL Foss;
Sarah BOTHWELL Crandall;
Lucy BOTHWELL Paine;
Harriet BOTHWEL Warren; &
Justin BOTHWELL.

James A. m. 2nd Polly lILLEY.

James L.
