Tim, It was nice to read your comments about the Wendell BOTSFORD farm. I went by there August 2009 for the first time since the mid-1970's, and was surprised and pleased to see the barns still standing. (Downtown Horseheads didn't look very different either.)
When my brother and I were kids our family would visit Wendell and swim in the creek that ran through his land. He had dairy cattle then.
My father had fond memories of the farm from his childhood during the Depression. Growing up in a rough part of Detroit, the farm must have been a revitalizing escape for him.
To ease his emphysema, Wendel started spending time in Texas, where he tended bees. He eventually sold the farm near Sullivanville and moved to Texas, which is where he died.
Someday I want to return to Chemung county and spend more time on research in the area. I am quite willing to share what I have on my BOTSFORD line, and the different marriage links that I am aware of.
