Three brothers came over to America from Abbotsford, England, in pre-revelutionary era. They bore the name of their native town, but found it too long, so they dropped the "Ab", and the name has been handed down as "Botsford" Looking for more data about this event and the names of the three brothers.

Rootsweb`s WorldConnect has three databases that include Amaryllis Botsford. One of them is here:
http://tinyurl.com/cq5n8b

The most recent database at WC with the Botsford family is here: http://tinyurl.com/d4wgnt This one does not list Amaryllis or her siblings but does show an 1850 census that names them.

I haven`t found anything online that shows Rev. War ancestors for Amaryllis` family. Try posting on the Botsford surname board here: http://boards.ancestry.com/surnames.botsford/mb.ashx

Pat R.

I don't have that information. In the Botsford - Line of Samuel Genealogy, the only further information is that they had a child Robert Forydic Wiley (spelled "Willy" in the Genealogy) who married Peggy Johnson in August of 1967. Peggy was born 09 Dec 1949. The information came from Dorothy Estelle Botsford 18 Oct 1967 Kalamazoo, MI to Marion Weatherill (Genealogist for the Botsford Family Historical Association in Milford, Connecticut)

Hi Penny -
There are 2 distinct and maybe three separate families of Botsford's in the Brockville / Elizabethtown / Athens / Delta / Farmersville areas. Mine comes from and settled in the Elizabethtown / Brockville area. Geoff's comes from the Athens / Delta / Farmersville area.
Three adult male Botsford's show up by 1807 - my Alanson, a William, and a Henry.
In the 1804 Elizabethtown, Upper Canada Census my Elanson shows up with his wife Catherine Mott, and their son Gershom. Separate, but with this family are Margaret, a female child, and Chandler, a male child.
Separate, and again with my Alanson, Catherine, and Gershom, are Phoebe Ann, a female child, and Polly, a female child.

Nieces and Nephew ?????? I don't know.
Have been working on the Brockville, Athens group for 27 years.

Steve

Hi Geoff:

Have you come across a Patti or Polly Botsford b. ca 1818 in your search of the Brockville/Athens area? She was married to John Nelson King and she died 12 Dec 1895, age 77 and is buried in Glen Buell Cemetery on Hwy. 29 near Tin Cap. One of her children was a son, Auldjo King who lived in Farmersville his whole life and she is listed as his mother on his death certificate which I recently found. I am interested in any info on Patti(Botsford)King's parents and/or siblings.......a giant brick wall for me! I have some info on other Botsfords in the area but I haven't found a link to my Patty/Polly yet.

Hoping to hear from you soon......Penny

Hi Steve & Geoff:

Thanks so much for the quick replies......I have been searching for Patti/Polly King for years and was so hopeful when I found out her maiden name was 'Botsford' that I would finally unlock the mystery. I guess I have to keep digging...........her daughter Minerva King, my ggrandmother, is equally as elusive! She was the 2nd of 3 wives of Milton Homer Sherwood (of Portland, Ontario) and I believe died after 2 children but can't find her death record. So I am getting a double whammy here. I had hoped to find out more about the Patti/Polly (Botsford) & Nelson King's family through a Botsford descendant...... Thanks for your input, I am keeping a Botsford file for possible connection in the future .....(she says hopefully!) I have collected several Botsford marriages in my file from this area, if interested......Cheers,Penny

Chalgrave Visit

My husband Tim and I just returned from a fabulous visit to Chalgrave. What a life moving experience! A lovely English gentleman took us to the church and opened it for us. He told us about many special things both inside and out. We took many pictures and will share them if folks would like. There are 2 knights buried in the church with marvelous tombs and we have pictures of them. Both were killed in battle. The wall paintings are very interesting and are said to be some of the best midieval paintings in a church in all of England. We had the opportunity to climb the bell tower. It was up through a very narrow dust stone staircase which I am sure not many go up. I felt truly honored to go up to the top of the church of my ancestors. The view was beautiful and the experience so special. The origional babtism lead fount is still inside the church and I could only imagine that early Botsfords were married as well as babtized their babies where I was standing. It was a wonderful visit to a very special place. I you would like any photographs e-mail my husband Tim directly at t.s.overom@worldnet.att.net

Hello:
My name is Russell Barnes. I am a maritime historian researching the New York built merchant ship Volante. I find that her captain, and later owner, was a man named L.H. Botsford. He was her captain in 1858 and in 1862, he was listed as her owner and captain. I know nothing else of him.

I would like to know about this gentleman and I am hoping someone here can shed some light on this.
