I am told that I need to find all sorts of
baptismal records dating back to the 1800's to show where my family line of Buttineau comes from. I know I derive from Pierre Buttineau from North Dakota. Thats as much as I found out so far. Any help on this matter would be appreciated fully. I Thank You in advance.

I noticed an old email referring to the marriage of Adeline Menard and Felix Crepeau July 11, 1870 in Minneapolis. I've just started researching the Crepeaus, and I believe he is my great-great grandfather (there are 5 generations of Felixes in my family). This may be the same Felix Crepeau who then later married Marie Desjarlais in 1880. If anyone has any info on Adeline Menard or any Felix Crepeau, I'd be most grateful. I am also looking for MN Dechenes (Mathilda Dechene was my great grandmother married to Felix A. Crepeau and I know she had two sisters and possibly a brother Arthur).

I have a copy of the application of Laura Bottineau Gray to the Department of the Interior, Office of Indian Affairs where she asks for an allotment of land on any Indian reservation or on ceded Chippewa lands ect dated 1932. In this document where she has to prove her Indian blood, she starts with her grandmother Margarette Ahdik Songab, was first married to a full-blood Indian named Pewanakum, (Okitchita), by whom she had three childern, to-wit: Isabella (Mijigisi), Aysaobinais, and Kee-whi-tah-bin-ace.
1. Iasbella married Joseph Montreuille, sometimes spelled Montreuil, of which marriage the following childern were born, to wit: Joseph Montreuille, Jr., Known as Savage Montreuille; Isabella Montreuille, 2nd: Alexis Montreuille; Jean Baptiste Montreuille, known as Toto; Margarette Montreuille who married John Brunelle; Marie Montreuille, who married Francois Lequier; and Alexandre Montreuille.
2. Ayakobinais, Second child of this marriage, married a full-blood Chippewa by whom he had several sons and daughters.
3. Kee-wih-tah-bin-ace, third child lf this marriage, married and had children, names of which are unknown.

Margarette married Charles Bonnineau for her third husband, on the marriage/childern list it states Marguerite SON GABO KI CHE TA, of the AH dik do daun (Raindeer) Clan of the Red Lake Chippewas ( Sister of Chief Red Bear)

Is this any help?

Hi Colleen,

We have corresponded before, but I lost your email during a computer crash.

Yesterday at the MN State Fair I was able to hear and meet Charlie
Maguire, the Singing Ranger (park ranger). He writes and sings folk
songs about the Mississippi River and the people who settled it or work
on it. His new cd Great Mississippi has several Native oriented songs,
including songs about Pierre Bottineau and George Bonga. He is actually
very good if you enjoy folk songs. I also enjoyed the song First
Nations.

If you are interested, copies can be ordered in
Minneapolis at Homestead Pickin Parlor, 800.497.3655 or 612.861.3308.

I hope your search for information about Marie Rose and her family going well. Did you ever figure out how she ended up in Idaho?

Jeanne

On Oct 2, 1863, a treaty was signed at the Old Crossing of Red Lake River in MN. In the treaty agreement a tract of 640 acres of land was to be set aside as a reservation for Mis-co-muk-quoh, Red Bear, Chief of Pembina band of Chippewa
Indians. Pierre Bottineau signed his mark as a witness to the treaty. The entire treaty can be read at my website located at:

http://users.ap.net/~chenae/bottineau.html

Debra McCann
