Yes - I continue to work on the Bottoms families in the Southern US. My family is derived from Burrel and Sarah (UNKN) Bottoms, Burrel died in 1799-1800, in Bladen County NC. Sarah and family are in 1800census of Bladen, and then move to Camden SC. There she owned a loom, and property. She and family are in the 1810 census. Her sons - John Bottoms m Nancy Marsh, Camden; James - m Elizabeth Lockhart (from Camden) as her family and James moved toward Georgia (m1821 in Jones Co GA. Sarah and Burrel's daughters: Martha Patsey m Thomas Jefferson Watson in Sumter Co, SC - Thomas died enroute to GA, and Martha died several years later in Louisiana on her way with her son to Texas. Nancy Bottoms m Elvey Lewis and moved to Alabama. The youngest daughter, Francis is found with her nephews in GA and AL later in the 1840's.
There are other Bottoms' - The Pickens CO, SC Bottoms' came from Ireland, there is Thomas Bottoms who lived in South Carolina - and then moved and is found again in Alabama; I would like to investigate his Bottoms line - as Burrel may be related.
Anyway - let me know if I can help you.
Jewel Wellborn

DESPERATE! Looking for John Henry Bottoms, Georgia birth 1918-1925?

I am on the quest to find my Maternal Grandfather..., and whatever family that may branch from there.
Facts: John a.k.a "Johnny" Bottoms said his family was from Atlanta Georgia (or around there), He served during WW2, and I believe in the Navy as I have one picture with him aboard a gunship. He was stationed in Long Beach California in the year 1947. He stood 6'5", curly strawberry blonde hair. He was also married at the time and had for sure a son as his Junior. I approx this Son's birth year to be 1940-1945.

My Grandmother "Kay" fell in love with "Johnny", I have a photo of the couple, sitting in a corner booth in a club. They were in love. He had given my Grandma a phone# to use ONLY in the event of an emergency..., she found out she was pregnant, thus called. To answer the call was a Mrs.Bottoms, to which my Grandma first thought as the Mother of her beau. However, this was not the case.

Story goes that in a fit of rage my Grandma took off to Northern California to have my Mother at her Sisters - vowing all family to NEVER let John know of her whereabouts. My Great Aunt told my Mother that John had found out about the baby, was in the process of a divorce, and wanted badly to explain to Kay. - Never did he find my Grandma (as she eventually married and relocated to Canada), never seen my Mother..., and in turn, My Mom has never met her Father or half-siblings.

Interesting side fact, I too am 6'5" like my Grandfather. I would love to bring this story closure. Put the wonder and hurt to rest. Will anyone please help me?

William Bottom, 1732 VA

The vestry book of King William Parish 1732 and 1733 lists William Bottum/ Willeam Bottom. On the list of tithables of 1732 he is listed separately with one tithe due. He is listed after John Harris, Will Harris, and Fillis owing 3 tithes. In 1733 he is listed as part of a group - Jean Harris, Willeam Harris, Willeam Bottom, and Fillis owing 4 tithes. The other names are very much French names and my understanding is that this is the parish for the French of Manakin Towne.
Does anyone know more about this record - who is this William Bottom?

Who was the father of Abner Bottoms - I have found two Abner Bottoms', but in two different locations. I am wondering if you have participated in teh Bottoms DNA project? I sure would love to see if our families connect!!
Thanks
Jewel Wellborn

I think your Frances Bottom may have been the wife of Elisha Estes, Jr (my husband's lineage) They lived in Henry Co. Va. I have in my notes that in 1763, Elisha Estes, Jr made a deed to Thomas Bottom, Jr in Amelia Co VA. The WILL of Elisha Estes proved in Franklin Co VA March 1791, named wife Frances, and sons Bottom Estes, Elisha Estes, Asa and Jesse, daughter Fanny and Mary Fuller etc. Frances Estes (Eastis) widow, appeard on the Franklin Co Va Personal Property Tax list in 1794 thru 1797. Frances remarried in 1798 to John James (by Nelson Turner, MG.) her son Elisha Jr was surity on the marriage bond dated June 22, 1798 (Mg book 1 pg 51 Franklin Co Va. Do you have the names of Elisha and Frances (Bottom) Estes children? My husband is descended from the son Bottom Estes. If you will e-mail me at estesd2pc@embarqmail.com. I will be happy to share my records with you. Dorris Estes

Yes, I am actively working on the Bottoms family. In fact, I am constructing a "book" (I am not an author) for the Burrell Bottoms descendents. I have some really great stuff that I have located - so much fun!
I just placed my tree on Ancestry - with photos and stuff.
Where are you in your research?
Jewel

The Descriptions of an individual are related to the head of household so Alice should be the mother of Raymond otherwise it should say mother-in-law. His mother could have remarried or they could have made a mistake and she could be the mother of Louise. I have not been able to find proof on an earlier census.

Hello There -
There are many Bottoms' today in Texas - look at the Cemetery website of Texas and you can find several cemeteries where Bottoms' ancestors are buried.
One of interest is Bottoms Road just south of Waco TX.
I have photos of the street sign - and you can google the area and find the Bottoms plot of land. I believe this Bottoms is realted to the Thomas Bottoms family who resided in Marion Co Alabama in the early 1840's.
I will send you some of the information that I have on Texas Bottoms' if you will contact me directly - wellborns@mindspring.com.
Thank you
Jewel Wellborn
