Yes, I believe this is my gr-gr grandfather. I can provide you with quite a bit of information about my family from him down. He and his wife Viola are buried in Linn County, Kansas. There is a Matthew and Eliza Boughton also buried in their plot. I think this may be Hiram's parents. Do you know?

Boughton-Delaware

I am looking for any information regarding the family of Alexine/Ellexzine Boughton born around 1839 in Delaware. She married first Jonathan Marvel on 25 December 1855 in Sussex County, Delaware and second William Scott 30 August 1888 in Milford, Delaware. I am descended from the first. The only thing I know about Alexine's ancestry is that her mother's name was Nancy. Since the only place that the Boughton's seem to have been was Connecticut at the time, I feel like that must be where her father's family must have been from, but I cannot find anything at all about him.

Thanks for any help.
Mu husband is Lee Francis boughton.
We are related to a John Boughton b- 12/20/17850 married a Mary??
John purchased property in Caroline NY the Tioga Co, in 1087
Ithaca Ny dated April 1832 states that Daniel and Sylvia Boughton were the heirs of the late John Boughton of Caroline Ny. There was also a Manly Boughton that showed some of the proerty to be deeded to him. I can only go back as far as New York on our famuily tree as I understand there was a fire but I do know that my husband is of English descant through his ancesters. There has been alot of mishaps in trying to do a good geneology as another Boughton family from, Illonois keep messing things up. I do know that Boughton's were in Osage Iowa and some went to Montana and North Dakota and that is where my husband and his 7other 6 siblings were born.
Since my 2004 inquiry I found that the Ernest Boughton I was looking for was born and adopted by Chester Noyes my maternal GF. Ernest mother was one of my mothers sister who died during the flu epedemic and my GM placed an ad in the local papers informing Ernest Sewell, his real father to come and get his son or she would adopt him. His father Ernest Sewell never responded and my GP.s adopted him. My GM was Elizabeth Boughton, Nee Couch from Cornwall.Things you find out when doing research.
Thanks for your help.

forgot to mention that John came to the US & the other brothers returned to France. Noel took over the family line.

John, son of Nicholas, born in France was the only Bouton to come to the US (2 or 3 sons all went to England)

The french were no too popular and in NY a wife encouraged John Bouton to add gh in there to appear more english and less french---after all he did come from or thru england. There are other Boughton's that were never from Boutons of France..while in England he lived near or in Broughton & spouses for several generations were from England.

John had many generations & there is a book written by one of his sons or grandsons in New York--I have not found it yet

James Boughton Genealogy referred to on Kaye website is not reliable

Barbara Kaye's webpages on at least the earliest Norwalk Boughtons simply repeat what she found in a genealogy by James Boughton. This book should not be consulted for information about these early Boutons. It wasn't a scholarly work and contains many errors and outlandish assumptions. They were corrected and refuted long ago in an article published in the NEHGR. I'm not the last word on the subject, but I suggest you read my biography page on John.

http://dougsinclairsarchives.com/bouton/johnbouton1.htm

Hope this is helpful,

Doug

I am trying to find parents of Newton Jasper Bouton, William and Winfield. All were born in Iowa. Newton Jasper moved to Washington State in 1904 with his wife, nellie and children: Carl Emmett, (Amelia) Millie and Albert

Rumor is that the father died when Newton was only about 5 yrs old. He may have been from Indiana, their mom was from Iowa. I have nothing more on William and Winfield but believe that they stayed in Iowa.

I have a little more on Newton because he is my gg-grandfather.

Amanda

I am trying to find parents of Newton Jasper Bouton, William and Winfield. All were born in Iowa. Newton Jasper moved to Washington State in 1904 with his wife, nellie and children: Carl Emmett, (Amelia) Millie and Albert

Rumor is that the father died when Newton was only about 5 yrs old. He may have been from Indiana, their mom was from Iowa. I have nothing more on William and Winfield but believe that they stayed in Iowa.

I have a little more on Newton because he is my gg-grandfather.

Amanda

John Bowton/1635/Coldham book of Emigrants

I've taken as gospel the fine work by Barbara J Kaye re Descendants of John Bouton I, until I came across Peter W Coldham's "The Complete book of Emigrants 1607-1660". He collected passenger lists, records from the Exchequer, etc.
Coldham lists on 24 July 1635, persons to be transported [from London] to Virginia by the Assurance ship of London: at least 200 passengers, including "John Bowton [age] 20".
In his index of ships, Coldham... does not list the ship Alliance. His work was pub. 1987, by Genealogical Pub. Co., Inc., Baltimore MD 21203, 600 pp. ISBN 0-8063-119204.
He states, p. vii, "Beginning in 1606 English law required that persons wishing to pass beyond the seas must obtain a licence and take the oaths of supremacy and allegiance." ... that a great number of ships sailed to the Americas for which no passenger lists survive....
Kaye, and others show John married to Alice Kellogg, who was said to have come to New England 1635/36 with Nathaniel Kellogg. Coldham lists no Kelloggs, or a similar spelling, in his index of emigrants.
Q: Does anyone have documentation of our John Bouton/Bowton sailing in April 1635 aboard Alliance bound for Boston? How and when did the Kelloggs arrive in New England? As sailors used to say, it is too far to walk.
If anyone has the answer to my confusion, please advise. M. Noe/Atlanta/GA
