Hi, my Bounds appear in 2 branches of my family tree and I would really love to know if they were related and if so how.

1) Late 18th Century: Elizabeth Bound from North Baddesley m. Harry/Henry Melendy from Boldre/Beaulieu, all Hampshire. Witnesses were William & Sarah Bound (parents/siblings?). Elizabeth's birthplace is marked once as Gosport, Hampshire which confused me, until I discoverd that there is a farm and small hamlet to the north of N. Baddesley called Gosport (about which I would like to know more). Their daughter Ann/ie Maria m. William Bath from Devon (they lived their married life in Lymington, Hampshire)and daughter Elizabeth m. Henry Bath from Devon(presumably brothers but have no confirmation of this); they lived in Plymouth, Devon.

2) Late 18th Century: James Bound, tallow chandler journeyman, born North Baddesley, m. Mary from Romsey, daughter Mary, born Portsea/Portsmouth, married Richard Winship from Humberside; they lived most of their married life in Southampton. Another daughter was Hannah b. Wimborne m. George Billett, and Ann/e m. ? Hunt.

If anyone has any early bmds from parish records for any of these, I'd be really keen to hear (I've done lots online of course). Many thanks,

Tiffany
Hi,

My name is James Bound and l am researching the Bound family of Hampshire and Dorset. l wondered if your family might be related to the Bound family of Ringwood during the late 18th and 19th century. l believe we were dairy farmers around that time. My Great Grandfather x 3, William Hatchard Bound moved to the East End of London during the 1850s as a Milliner in Commercial Road, Stepney.

l can be contacted at jimbo109e@hotmail.com

best regards,

Jim

Hello,

l have just read your request for information on the Bound Family of Ringwood. Well this is very exciting but l have to tell you that Thomas Bound of Bagnum farm is my Great x5 grandfather! He had a son also called Thomas born in 1799 who married Betsy Hatchard of Parley and had 5 sons? William Hatchard Bound was my Great Grandfather x3 and George Alfred Bound was his brother. Now wait for this..............l have a water colour minature of George Bound dated 1838. My sister has done most of the research and we have stacks of information and pictures etc. l now live in the New Forest close to Ringwood and have visited Bagnum Farm many times................we have very little information about Martin, only mention of the area in Thomas Bounds last will and testement.

What l am very interested in is who you are? and l am very excited that we may be able to share our family information!

best wishes,

James.

Hi there, my name is Suzanne Elizabeth Moore (nee Bound) My Father was Harry David Bound..born May 1915 or 14.He married my mother Winice Claire Bradley... born 1939. I know my fathers parents came to Australia from England and lived in Victoria for some time. I know that my fathers father was Harry Bound. I don`t know much more as we were not a close family and I never met my grandparents on my fahers side. I also know that my father had a previous marriage with 3 offsprings. I think there were 2 boys and a girl and they lived in Victoria. I know that one of the sons sadly lost his life in a drowning accident in a rainwater tank.
I hope this info may help. I would love to know if I am related to any of the folk you have mentioned in your message. I have very little contact with any of my family and would be interested to know if I have any other relations somewhere in the world. If I can help with anything else please message me. I will try.
Cheers Suzanne

That's OK.

In our tree we have a William Bound (b. 1834) son of Walter & Martha (Sandey) Bound. She was from St. Winnow in Cornwall. He was born in St. Veep Cornwall & baptised in St. Neot. William was married to Amelia Jane (Jane) CONGDON in 1857 so this is not your man either. After William died (1877), Jane migrated to Australia with all of their surviving 9 children and I am descended from one of them.

Looks like we can't help each other.
Enjoy your researching.
Hi Deborah!

Thanks for responding to this post. I'm assuming you are interested in Ann Cock Bound (nee Blake). Here is what we have in our tree on her.
Born in 1804 in St. Sampson, Cornwall, England. Daughter of John BLAKE (abt 1771-) & Margery COCK (1775-). In 1827 she married William BOUND in Fowey, Cornwall, England Ann Cock died in Oaks, Tasmania in 1884, she was 80. Buried in Longford, Tasmania. Occupation: Domestic

Is this the lady you are looking for? I have not researched this branch of the family but can put you in touch with the person who has who will probably be able to supply you with more details.

All the best with your research.
Chris C.

Unfortunately I don't know anything about Thomas Bound's ancestors; the subject of my study has been Thomas's (1st) son-in-law, Edward William Treadaway Hoare. That study is now close to complete with the results posted at:

http://neergaard.org/CGTGenealogy/EWTH.index.html

But if you're interested in other descendents of Thomas Bound, you'll find a page in the "Narratives" section of that study devoted to Alexander Hoare, one of Florence's two sons from her marriage with Edward.

There are also photos in the "Illustrations" section of Florence, Alexander, and some of Alexander's descendents (with one of whom I' m currently in touch).

And in the "Mentions in the Press" section, you'll find two rather colorful articles covering a 1914 lawsuit Florence brought against Edward.

If you have any data that bears on Edward Hoare - eg what happened to Eric Lester, born 1909, the younger son of Florence and Edward - I'd be most appreciative to have it.

I have not been able to establish the parents of Thomas BOUND who according to age given on various census was born in 1797 in Llandinam, Montomeryshire, Wales. On 17 July 1822 he married Mary JONES.

I have been searching back from my grandmother so it would be before Donald BOUND was born and I am unable to make a connection from only a name.

There are other BOUND researchers that may have a connection.
If you have more questions I would be glad to help you or ask other BOUND researchers.

According to Perley's History of Salem.
William Bound was here [Salem] in 1636 and probably removed to Marblehead about 1645. He appears on a list entitled "The Names of Such as tooke the Oath of Freemen",dated May 17, 1637.
William Bound married Ann -----; children, baptized at Salem: 1. James, baptized Aug. 25, 1636; 2. Andrew, baptized Aug. 12, 1638; 3. Philip, baptized Dec. 7, 1640. On Dec. 15, 1642, William Bound and his wife were presented for holding baptism of infants not to be an ordinance of God. Being in a way of conviction before the elders, the complaint was dismissed.

Bound Family in Australia

I am researching the descendants of the Bound family who migrated to Australia between 1840's and 1880's.
Basically there were three branches of the family who came out from Cornwall, Eng.
William & Ann Cock (Blake) Bound & 6 children arrived in Tasmania in 1842;
Thomas (William's nephew) to Sth Aust. in 1860's;
and Thomas' brother, William's, widow, Amelia Jane (Congdon) Bound & 9 children also to Sth. Aust. in 1878. Many of them eventually settled in Victoria.
I am descended from one of William & Amelia Jane's children, Abel.
If any of these Bounds are on your tree I would love to hear from you.
Mrs. Chris Cook.

Hi Sheila! Our ancestors come from St Neot, Cornwall, in the 1600's, but moved to a variety of places in Cornwall around 1750's which included Liskeard, St. Veeps, St. Pinnock, Fowey & St. Winnow.
At this stage, I am unable to connect your Bounds to our tree.
Sorry.

I am also descended from the BOUND or BOUNDS family. My fathers mother, Ruby Muriel BOUNDS was born to Abel BOUNDS and Bessie Burfield EXCELL ( could be spelt EXALL or other) in 1886. I believe that the family originally came from the UK, then South Australia before settling in Victoria. Some were known as BOUND and some BOUNDS. Not sure, but think they decided to simply drop the "s". My Nan (Ruby) lived with us on a farm out of Yinnar in Vic and before I was born, she lived with my parents on a farm somewhere off the Grand Ridge Road, around Boolarra South area. I think that Bessie also lived with them then. Ruby married Ernest Roy BRIGHTON and had 2 issues, my Dad, Harry John Ernest BRIGHTON and Muriel Bessie BRIGHTON (CARTHEW). Ruby's siblings were, May, Stanley, Ethel, Harry, Jim and Evangeline(Eva).
I would dearly love to hear back from you.
Regards from Lorraine.

Elizabeth died and so Lew was placed in an orphanage in Meriden, Warwickshire at a very early age, as apparently there were no other relatives.

No idea where Elizabeth Ann came from or when she was born.
Thomas Bound (b 1854) was my Great Grandfather. He married Helen Sclanders Smith on July 28 1877 and produced Thomas Alexander Bound (b May 25 1878), Edith Nellie Bound (b October 1880) and Florence Mabel Bound (b October 8 1885). Thomas & Helen are buried in St Pancras Cemetery in Finchley. I understand that Edward Hoare was the first of 3 husbands that Florence had, her last marriage being in 1955! I am seeking information about Thomas Bound's ancestors
