John Boundy was the son of John Boundy and Mary Thorne, who were married at High Bray, North Devon in 1819. Mary Thorne was the 4th of 9 children born to Richard Thorne and Elizabeth Parkin who were married in 1792 at High Bray. Their children were: Elizabeth 1793, Richard 1795,(Bapt North Molton) John 1798, Mary 1800, Susannah 1803,(All bapt Bratton Fleming) Jacob 1806, William 1810, Ann 1812 and George 1816 (All Bapt High Bray) There are several Thorne family Trees. I am descended from Richard (Mary Ann> William>Reine Ellen>Gordon>Me and also John, (Eliza>Frank>Gordon>Me) John Boundy was with his Grandparents, Richard and Elizabeth in the 1841 census at Exford, Somerset. He was a Farm Labourer at Exford in 1851. His Sisters, Elizabeth and Mary were also with their Grandparents in 1841 - I cannot find out what happened to Mary, but Elizabeth had an illegitimate daughter in I think 1845, and by 1861 Census, she was called Elliott and had 6 children. I have wondered what happened to Mary Thorne. She was widowed in 1839. Three children were with her parents in 1841. Her other child, William aged 8, was with Jacob Thorne (who I think was mary's Uncle) in 1841. In 1841, Mary was a servant for William Thorne at High Bray. He was a widower with small children, and I think, (I've yet to prove it)that William and Mary were first cousins. In 1851 Mary was a servant for a family at Hawkridge. I have recently found out that she marrried Jacob Thorne at High Bray in I think, 1855. I even got a copy of their Marriage Cert, to be sure that it was 'my' Mary Boundy - it was, as the bride's Father was 'Richard Thorne'. I can't remember off the top of my head when she died, but she is buried at high Bray. I live in Minehead, Somerset, which is about 20 miles from High Bray, and regularly go to the records office at Barnstaple, where North Devon parish registers, including High Bray are kept. The surname Thorne is really common in North Devon, and I'm still putting pieces into the jigsaw.
