Hi, I was reading an account on Witheridge history about Maurice Boundy who had a shoeshop in the village and my father whose middle name is Maurice says he used to visit them as a child. I think they were originally from Rackenford. He said most of the family down there were shoemakers or worked on farms but he doesn't know of a Worlington connection or Boundy's Cross - I just read about it on here. I know my father had relatives in South Molton
and Yeo Mill and that they would regularly travel down for holidays.

Stephen -please the response from my cousin in Canada. Please feel free to email him any questions - sounds like he has a ton of info. Hope it helps. Jerome

Jerome
Last year I had my hard drive self distruct from a worm I received. Thus I lost some of my data. I am rebuilding my genealogy file. If Stephen Boundy would send me some more information such as birth dates, spouse names, etc I can go through my a list I have of Boundy families in Devon and Cornwall (I have a lot of names - 11 typed pages 1540 to 1936). I look through it briefly and found the following:
Your Great Great Grandfather Samuel Boundy Born 01 01 1800 Married Mary Pepper 02 11 1831
Samuel Boundy Born 30 06 1799
Samuel Boundy Born 1834 Died 04 06 1871Spouse Helen C
Samuel Boundy Married 13 12 1807 Saley Loosmor
Once I get my files up to date I will contact you and see what I can give you.
Best wishes
Douglas
Douglas Einarson [einarson@islandnet.com]

I am in Michigan. Where are you in Chicago? I cannot remember what I said in the email. Here are some boundy names. Eliza married a Dunstan. I found Frederick Boundy and JHL Boundy his son. They lived next to the old postoffice by the bridge at one time. I have some voter registrations that someone looked up for me with more Dunstan and Boundy names but I don't know what I am looking for to send a letter. One of the 2 names was in Victoria Place where I have record that they lived previously.
Where were you living in 94? I have relatives in Gulval and St. Just I think I can never remember the 2nd one. My cousin owns a tavern in Madrid and his brother and sister in law work for Warren's bakery.
Let me know what names you have or places where they lived in Ponsanooth and I will check my records. Also Samuel Toy is another name who lived in Ponsanooth and has a connection with our family of Dunstans.
I've not come upon the Cornish connection before.

I'll keep digging - but I'm just getting started and it sounds like you have done much more work. Where are you located? I'm in Chicago now but was living in Cornwall until 94. I was married in Penzance and know Ponsanooth!

Thanks,
Jerome

Re: Cornelius Boundy, Arrived in South Australia from London 1848

Hi Brett
I saw your request re Cornelius Boundy when browsing through the Message Boards. I try to get to the Adelaide library family history section every two weeks or so, and I do research for people who require information from S.Aus. records. Last week while at the library I looked for Cornelius Boundy & here's what I found:-

CHILDREN BORN TO CORNELIUS BOUNDY & ANN ROWE
1. Ellen 1/3/55 ref. b5 p113

2. Adelaide 24/12/58 b11 p476

3. Charlotte 19/4/53 b4 p143

4. Cornelius 23/10/56 b7 p35

5. Mary Jane 28/3/48 b2 p55 reference "E" which denotes possible clerical error, or possibly wrong date recorded on certificate.

6. Matilda Ann 5/6/51 b3 p228 (Her mother's maiden name is spelt Raw on this record.

7. Richard Heny 10/2/50 b3 p29

ALL OF THE ABOVE were born in Adelaide, District Adelaide.

There is absolutely NO indication of one of the children having been born on the ship. However, from the "E" symbol on Mary Jane's birth record, I would suspect that, if any of the children were not born in Adelaide as such, she would possibly be the person born at sea.

BOUNDY DEATHS.

1. Anne Boundy, aged 52yrs of Adelaide died 17/1/76 at Adelaide. Wife of Cornelius Dis. Adelaide b71 p49 symbol "H" which denotes Anne died in a hospital.

2. Cornelius (Snr). aged 59yrs, of Adelaide died 7/3/85 at Adelaide. Informant, Cornelius Boundy Jnr. Dis. Adelaide ref b144 p438

The Sands & McDougall Directory of South Australia for the year 1873 list C. Boundy as an engine driver, in Maude Street, adelaide.

Hope this is of some help.

Regards
Heather

John Boundy, born 1829, sailed forom Liverpool on "Isaac Webb" to NYC arrived June 9, 1854. Married Eliza Jane Ribble of State of Indiana. There were 6 children: George, Mary J., Charles, Susanna, Louis, and Emma.

His brother William Boundy followed 3 years later. William, born in 1832, married in England to Elizabeth ________. There was one son born in England, William in 1854. Five additional children were born in US: Elizabeth, John, Samual, Joseph, and Anna.

William, wife and son sailed on the "Dreadnought" to NYC arriving May 19, 1857.

Family legend says that Elizabeth returned to England for visits about every 5 years. We do not know that as a fact.

Both families settled for a time in Peach Orchard Illinois. John and family later moved to Golden City Missouri.

I do not know if any of these name connect to people left in England. Sometimes sons or daughters are named after their grandparents.

Thank you for your help.

Bob Clearwater

Re: William Boundy 18(29-32) - 1899

I just rechecked the 1870 census and find that William Boundy's wife was named Elizabeth, also born in England as well as a 16 year old son, William, English born. They lived in Peach Orchard, Ford County, Illinois. At that time he was listed as 39, which would make his birth date about 1831/32

Also in Peach Orchard was John Boundy, his wife was Eliza Jane. She was born in Indiana. John was listed as age 38. We know that John had an older brother named William. It would seem reasonable that John and William were brothers since there are not that many Boundy's to be found in 1870 paired up in small communities.

We know that John was from England. Devon we believe.

We also know that William's wife returned to England alone on several occasions to visit family. A formidable woman considering travel in the last half of the 19th Century.

I will continue to look back and see what I can confirm about the English location.

Again, thanks for the original reply.

Not really. Here is what I have on my Boundy line.
My Ggrandfather, Reverend Samuel BOUNDY was born 4 Jun 1854 in Swimbridge, Devon. He married Mary E. NEWTON (father ; William) and she was born 20 Jul 1875 in Blenheim, Ontario, died 1940, Canada.Rev. Samuel died 25 Jan 1942 in Buffalo, Erie, New York.
My GGgrandfather, Samuel BOUNDY was born about 1814 in Meshaw, Devon. He married Elizabeth SMALL (father; William) and she was born about 1821 in Marwood, Devon.
That is the extent of what I know about them. I have not been able to fit or relate them to any of the many other BOUNDY's in the Meshaw, Burrington area. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanx, Dick
Hi. I think I may have responded once before but I'm not sure any more. In November 2003 I made a very quick visit to Devon. My family of Boundy's were born in Meshaw, Swymbridge, Alverdiscott, and Rose Ash. I suspect West Worrlington also. These are the villages I was able to quickly drive through but had no time for research. I Did see Boundy's Cross, do you know the story that goes with it? I'd be interested. If you or Douglas wouldn't mind helping with Boundy research I would appreciate it.
I am located in Northern California.
I have collected a lot of information from the internet on other Boundy lines from Devon and Cornwall but I have not yet been able to connect my line to any of them.

Thank you,
Dick
