Hey Alex,
My name is Carmen Skidmore and I think we might have some relatives in common. Angel Bouquet is my great grandfather. I don't have a lot of info, though, I just started my research but your post caught my attention. My mom has told me that the Bouquets came from France and that my great great grandfather (or just one of them...idk haha) served as a guard for Emperor Maximilian I. I was born in Mexico but I currently live in the USA. Please let me know if there's more info I can get from you.
Thanks,
Carmen

I can put you in touch with descendants of a Bouquet branch in Southwest Louisiana. There may be a connection. There are a few --about 22 --whose ancestors left here and moved out to northern California...near San Francisco. Do a People Search on Yahoo for their names, etc. It seems the females of the Bouquet line from Louisiana stayed in LA.

BAQUET - BAQUETT IN N.J.

I have a copy of a birth certificate for Camille Baquet of Paris, France. He is found in the Burlington County, Burlington, N.J. census as Camille Baquett(59). Married to Harriet J. Baquett(46). They have eight children... Madeline (26), Margaret L.(22), Francisco(19), Camille(17), Harriet S.(14), Sophia L.(12), Mary A.(9) and William C(7). This family has been very difficult to track and they seem to change the spelling of the surname at will. If anyone can help me fill in some gaps... I would really...REALLY... appreciate it! my email address is... debbidodo@hotmail.com ... Thanx, Deb

MARY DILKS WAS THE DAUGHTER OF ANDREW DILKS AND THE SISTER OF REV.ANDREW DILKS, FOR SOME TIME PASTOR AT BETHEL METHODIST CHURCH. IF JAMES BOQUA WAS A BROTHER OR SON OF REV.JOHN BOQUA A METHODIST MINISTER, IT WOULD BE EASY TO SPECULATE THAT THE MARY AND JAMES MEET AS A RESULT OF CHURCH ACTIVITIES. ALSO, WHEN JAMES BOQUA DIED IN 1805, HE WAS BURIED IN THE BETHEL CHURCH CEMETERY. THIS IS WHERE YOU WILL FIND MANY DILKS' INCLUDING REV.ANDREW AND MARY'S OTHER BROTHER PRESMELL DILKS. THERE ARE CARTER'S MENTIONED IN PRESMELL DILKS' WILL. REV.NATHANIAL CHEW IS ANOTHER METHODIST MINISTER ACTIVE IN THIS TIME-FRAME. HE PERFORMED SEVERAL PENN AND DILKS WEDDINGS AND NO DOUBT HE KNEW REV.DILKS AND REV. BOQUA. I DO NOT HAVE A PICTURE OF JAMES BOQUA BUT DO HAVE ONE OF MARY AND HER DAUGHTER CATHERINE BOQUA PENN.

James Boqua

Found lots more info on Boqua family among my brother's things. (My brother died 13 years ago and was really into genealogy.) Among his papers is a handwritten letter with a Salem County Historical Society letterhead. It states, "James Boqua, died 9-18-1805; 32 yrs, 3 mo, 12 da; buried in Bethel M.E. Churchyard, Glou. Co., NJ." That must be your Catherine's father.
My gr gr grandmother, Catharine S. Boqua was born in 1813. According to a newspaper article written at the time of her golden wedding anniversary in 1887, Catharine was the daughter of Rev. John Boqua, of Emmanuel Methodist Episcopal Church in Pennsgrove. "Mr. Boqua came from Nova Scotia when a young man and married Martha Carter." John Boqua died 1-9-1844 at 71 yr. old. That means he was born about 1772-73. Could John and James have been brothers and traveled from Nova Scotia to Gloucester and Salem Counties in NJ together? Could they both have had daughters named Catharine? The article goes on to state that Mrs. Catharine Boqua Barber "is the sole survivor of the Boqua family whose name is now remembered only by a few of our oldest citizens and will live only on the marble tablets in the county church yard. She died 12-2-1898 in Pennsgrove and is buried in Riverview Cemetery in Pennsgrove, NJ along with other Boqua family members.
Another newspaper article from the obituary section of the Penns Grove Record, dated Oct. 26, 1923, states that "John Boqua was a son of one of the French Acadians banished from Nova Scotia..." Have you ever read the poem "Evangeline" by Longfellow? It's about the banishment in the 18th century of French Acadian farmers who had refused to swear loyalty to their English rulers.

Buck to Bouque to Bouquet

I had posted last year about Francis L. Bouquet. I have found that he
added the "t" after his second marriage....here's the scoop on it..

I am looking for information about Francis Lester BOUQUE.
He was supposedly born in 1832 in Pennsylvania, moved to the
St. Louis Area approx 1848, married Caroline Virginia DORSEY in
Madison County, IL, 1857, father 2 children with Caroline: Charles born approx 1859,
and Eugene born 1872. Caroline died in 1873 from TB. Francis married again in 1875
to Mary Elizabeth JUDD. Between 1875 1877 Francis added a "t" to his name making it Bouquet.
He father 3 children with Mary Elizabeth: Clarence, Lillian and Aeolia. He died in St. Louis in 1904.

I am looking for information on his parents....Supposedly, that is according to family legend, Francis Lester Bouque
changed his name from Thomas Lister BUCK to Francis Lester Bouque. This was said to have happened around 1850.
His father name was said to be Daniel R. Buck, mother was Agnes Phipps. He is also said to have moved from Bucks
County, PA.
Any information would be greatly appreciated!!

Kelly Koehler

old picture found

I bought a box of old pictures at an Estate Auction, very few had names.

One that did have a name on it was from a Major G.E.
Bouq?et. The Question mark could be an U or a N. I would like to give this Photo to his closest descendent that wants it. If other's would like a copy I could scan it and send it email.

On the back of the Photo is a note, this is what it says.

Precideo Camp
July 21, 1898

To Will, from Major G.E. Bouq?et.
Remember the Major.
Say Bill when I get my wife and settle down in Manila you can come down a stay a few weeks with me.
So good by
Your Nephew
G.E.
