Thanks for your reply. Sorry for the delay in e-mailoing you sooner. I was involved in a horrible auto accident and still trying to recuperate completely. The Bennett Bourn I am looking for is the grandfather of Helen Irene Bourn born in 1929. She appeared in the 1930 census as being 0 years old. I believe October of 1929 is a good guess. These Bourns all were from marion county mississippi. Bennett Bourn passed aay in 19l0. The wife (Caney, cansy, candus, canse) shows up in the 1920 census as a widow with same household members. Helen has a sister, Mary A. Helen lived in Corpus Christi Texas in 1949. I can't seem to find a birth for Helen or her sister. Thank you very much for your help.

Hi Marcie; Thank you so very much for your reply to my query. Sorry for the delay in contacting you again. I was involved in a terrible auto accident and still not fully recovered. The Bourns I am looking for all come fro marion county in Mississippi. Bennett Bourn was the grandfather of Helen Irene Bourn and her sister Mary A. Bourn. Bennett Bourn died in 19l0, I believe. He dropped out of the 1920 census and his wife caney, canse, cansy, candus, shows up with the same household members, to include Helen and Mary. In the 1930 census Helen was 0 years old. I believe she was born in October of 1929. I've looked high and low for birth records but can't seem to find any. Mary was born in 1928 according to the 1930 census. Thanks again for your help. Hope you can find birth records. Have a good day.

I am not showing a Mary, BUT I don't have any information on them past 1893. I tried to find them in the 1900 census and I could not.

I'm sorry I couldn't help you. Please let me know when Mary and her son were born so I can add her and her son Rufus Nicholas to my tree.

Morton BOURN(E)(b ca 1795) Son of William and Millie BOURNE?

I'd like to get in contact with anyone researching the families of William and Millie (HELM) BOURNE/BOURN and of Morton and Elizabeth (GREENLEE) BOURN/BOURNE/BOWEN/BOWIN...or anyone familiar with the area around Green Spring and Babbs Run ca. 1830.

My goal is to prove or disprove that William and Millie Bourn were the parents of MY Morton BOURN (b. ca 1795).

It is my understanding that there were several Morton BOURNs living in Virginia around that time. My Morton Bourn left Virginia in 1837 and settled in Franklin County, Missouri. Another Morton Bourn from Virginia - who was married to Tabitha White) ended up settling in Jessamine County, Missouri.

My ancestors include Morton and Elizabeth (nee GREENLEE) BOURN. My Morton was born ca 1795 in Virginia. They lived and owned property in an around Frederick and Berkeley Counties.

William and Millie BOURNE/BOURN had a son MORTIN/MORTON, lived and owned property in and around Frederick and Berkeley Counties. I have not found any information on the birthdate of William and Millie's son, Mortin/Morton.

From Frederick County Land Records:

On July 18, 1827, William and Millie formalized a gift of property to their sons Morton and Andrew - the property described as a tract with saw mill in Frederick County, VA, ... at a junction of Green Spring and Babbs Run....that they had purchased from Dr. Ezekiel Bull. It goes on to mention that Andrew had already sold his portion of the tract to his brother Morton. (paraphrased from D.A.Buck, Abstracts of Frederick County, VA, Deed Books 45-53, 1821-1828, page 26)

On September 6, 1833, Morton Bourn and his wife Elizabeth - MY Morton Bourn - sold a tract containing 158 acres with a saw mill, the dwelling house whereupon the couple lives...at the junction of Babbs Run and Green Spring. (paraphrased from D.A.Buck, Abstracts of Frederick County, VA, Deed Books 54-62, 1828-1834, page 30)

IF these two transactions were referring to the same property, it would be fairly convincing proof that my Morton Bourn was the son of William and Millie Bourn.

However, I have no idea whether there were or could have been multiple saw mills at the junction of Green Spring and Babbs Run.

Any and all help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Wes

I'd rather avoid phone calls at this point, but I will send you an e-mail to see if we can perhaps sort something out.

The only John and Grace Bourn I can find in Massachusetts that fits into the right time period is in Boston, so while I suppose that could be them, my family members pretty strongly remember Edna's family being from Western Massachusetts, possibly the Greenfield area. I should have mentioned that before.

I am needing some assistance with one of my BOURN ancestors. My information is very vague, but maybe someone can help. Specifically, I am looking for information on:

- John W. BOURN
-- Believed to be born either MA or VT in mid-/late 1800s
-- Married to Grace Ellen STARK (no information found)
-- Father of Edna Ellen CROWNINSHIELD (02/13/1898 - 07/11/1963)

Edna married Wallace CROWNINSHIELD of Jamaica, Vermont and had four children with him there, but her children remember her family as being from Western Massachusetts originally. I am unsure if that means she was born there or if one or both of her parents were.

As you can see, I am completely stuck with this one! It's a shot in the dark to post here, but I'm hoping this might be familiar to someone...

I can dig in my records but as of right now I don't have his parents listed in my family tree. If I find something I will definately post it.

I am pretty sure that James and Sarah had no children. Only because the 1900 Census for Sarah state she had 0 children and 0 living.

I believe this Elnathan Bourn was the son of Nathan Bourn and Clarissa Pike. He was born in Potton, Brome, Quebec, Canada. His family moved to Colton, St. Lawrence, NY after 1844. Nathan and Clarissa had 14 children, some stayed in Quebec, others stayed in NY, and others in Templeton, MA. One of Elnathan's brothers, Shepard Pike, changed his name to Bowen.

We have been able to discern Clarissa's ancestors, but not Nathan's.

I would like to get in contact with anyone on this list who is researching Morton BOURN/BOWEN of Virginia who married Elizabeth GREENLEE ca 1816-1819 in or around Winchester, VA. He was born c 1795 (From census records) and moved with wife and family to Franklin County, MO, in 1837.

This is my "brick wall". There were several Morton BOURN/BOURNE/BOWENs in Virginia about that time, but the ones I've run across married other that Elizabeth GREENLEE.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Wes

Andrew Bourn & Celia Thompson of Calhoun Co., area of Virginia/West Virginia

Is there anyone still researching the family of Andrew Bourn/Bourn who married Celia Thompson in 1827 - Harrison Co., Virginia? Andrew and Celia are listed in the 1850 Gilmer Co., Virginia census and also the 1870 Calhoun Co., West Virginia Census. He died before 1880.

I have misplaced 1860 and 1880 census records. When I eventually found them the spelling was misconstrued.

Missing:

1. Andrew & Celia/Celah Bourn for Census 1860 - Virginia (unsure of county).

2. Celia Bourn for Census 1880 - probably Calhoun Co., West Virginia.

3. William H. & Julina/Juda Bourn Census 1880 probably Braxton or Calhoun Co., West Virginia.

If anyone has any of these records I would be very happy. I originally found them on Ancestry.com but I have misplaced them. It is hard to find them because the Bourn name was mispelled most likely when they were cataloging for online.

Anyway - thanks for the help in advance.

A little more on the family if anyone interested:

Children of Andrew & Celia (Thompson) Bourn

1. Mildred Jane "Milly" Bourn (sp: Eli Stump)
2. Warren Bourn (sp: Talitha Shock)
3. Sally/Sarah Bourn (sp: James Kelley)
4. William H. Bourn (sp: Julina/Juda Moore)
5. John Selby/Shelby Bourn (sp: Laura L. Hill)
6. Mary Bourn (sp: M. Lemuel Shock)
7. Malinda Mahala "Manda" Bourn (sp: Jonathan W. Burrows)
8. Pinkton Arnold Bourn (sp: Caroline White)
9. Charles Bourn (sp: Elizabeth Dodrill???)
10. Lucinda Ann "Lucy" "Luca" Bourn (sp: Waynefield "Wain/Wayne" Burrows

Feel free to contact me if you are researching any of these lines.

Hello,
I saw your comment on Bourns living near Richmond. I found my great-great grandmother living in Henrico, VA which is just outside of Richmond in the 1850 census. I am searching for anything on the origins of my great-great grandmother Mary Jane Bourn who was 17 in 1850 and living possibly with her parents William Bourn, 82, and Lydia Bourn, 50, in August 1850. Other members of her family were Sally, 36, Fanny A, 32, and Daniel, 27. The family of Josiah Clarke also lives with them.
Do you know anything about any of these Bourns?
