YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Funeral services will be at noon on Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at the F.D. Mason Memorial Funeral Home Inc. for Carlton Douglas Bourne, 83, who departed this life Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009, at St. Elizabeth Health Center, Youngstown, Ohio.

Mr. Bourne was born May 8, 1926 in St. George Island of Barbados, a son of Cameron Lynch and Gwendolyn Bourne.

He had worked for LTV Steel and was of the Moravian faith.

He leaves his wife, the former Margaret B. Lloyd, whom he married Jan. 19, 1983; children, Pauline (Billy) Adkins, Joyce Vandiver and Carolyn Bourne, all of Tampa, Florida, Renita Patterson, with the U.S. Navy in Germany, Muriel Thompson of Austintown, Ohio; and Carlson D. Bourne Jr. and Mytila Bourne, both of Columbus, Ohio; a stepdaughter, Juliette Feliciano of Christ Church, Barbados; siblings, Cameron Lynch of England, Victor (Diana) Lynch of St. George, Barbados, Gloria Jones and Hazel Rodney, both of Canada, and Claudine George, of New York City; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Friends may call one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.

On the 1881 census of Rye, James was still superintendent of police. He was born in New Romney, Kent in the Sept qtr of 1843.He seems to have had only one given name but had a son named James Edward. On my tree I have a Sarah Bourne born in Brede, Sussex about 1775 and a Frederick Bourne born in Hastings about 1864. Let me know if you think I can be of further help. Kind regards, Dave

I haven't researched this line extensively, however a set of hand-drawn trees my great grandmother Leah Walker Shipp drew has the family on it, but no evidence.

I am able to tell you quite a bit about Eliza Catt (nee Bourne) and her roots through both the Bourne and Jenner families but Colette can fill you in more with the Catt family and the USA descendants. It is quite a story and some branches have been traced back to the 1700s.

Colette will be thrilled that you have made contact and that she has some cousins in the US. I live in Kent, England, so you can see that my branch have not moved very far and some are still living in Rye, Sussex.

I am the great granddaughter Leonie Denver Boyd. She was Lilly and William's daughter and Eliza and Alfred's granddaughter. My grandmother, Bessiebelle, remembers her Aunt Snow. I never meant Leonie, and interestingly (don't ask me, because I have no clue) I have never meant any of the Catt (Catte) family or their ancestors. I see names here and there, and know that much of the family lives in Colorado, but otherwise, it seems to be a mystery. My daughter is working on our family history and ran across this message board.
We would love to hear from others of the Catt (Catte), Bourne, Jenner or Boyd family.

You can see Morton Bourne's 55 acre survey & grant on Back Creek in Berkley Co., VA at the Library of Virginia, Virginia Land Office Patents database. It is dated Nov. 11, 1824. There is also a patent for 216 acres on Rock Creek for William Bourne in Grayson Co., VA in 1807.

Did your Capt. William Bourne have a daughter named Lucy A. who married George F. Calmes who was born Nov. 15, 1798 at "Helmley" which was owned by the Helm family? (Clarke Co. VA was a part of Frederick Co.) I found a bio on Marquis Calmes and thought it might help with your research. Doesn't say much about Bourne other than he was from Culpepper Co., VA.

I've seen that land grant, but I'm not entirely sure that it's MY MOrton BOURN/BOURNE.

Here is where I stand:

According to my information (from Robert Taliaferro, 09-Jan-2007, in the BOURN Family Genealoy Forum messages) there were four Morton BOURNEs listed between 1780 and 1800. Three were born to brothers of Henry and Ann Morton BOURNE; the other was a cousin to them and was a son of Andrew and Jane Morton BOURN.

1. Morton, son of John BOURNE and Mary BROCK (I have no date)
2. Morton, son of William BOURNE and his cousin Catherine BOURNE. This MOrton was born in 1783 and married Tabitha WHITE.
3. Morton, son of James BOURNE and Elizabeth GORE. He was born ca 1789 and married Evaline SMITH.
4. Morton, son of William BOURNE and Mildred HELM. Information from Robert Taliferro indicates that this morton was born ca 1785

According to VA 1830 and MO 1840, 1850 census records, my Morton BOURN was born ca 1795. He, his wife - Elizabeth Greenlee - , and family moved from Virginia to Franklin COUnty, MO, in 1837

The short answer to your questions is: "I'm not sure".

I have traced my Morton Bourn back through his marriage to Elizabeth Greenlee in Frederick County, VA, in 1819, (BOWEN, Morton to GREENLEE, ELizabeth, in either 1819, according to Vogt and Kethly, "Frederick COunty Marriages, 1738-1850", or to 1816 according to a 1916 letter from Morton's son, John Greenlee BOURN. I feel rather sure of my data back to Morton BOURN (b ca 1795, VA)

I also have a hand-typed family tree (with no citations) prepared in the 1950's by Morton's grand-daughter, Mary Bourn BARNETT which indicates that Morton's parents were Andrew Jackson BOURN and Jane or Elizabeth MORTON and that his grandparents were ??? BOURN and Mildred HELM. Mary claims she got this information from her mother, Sarah Jane Bourn Daughterly, daughter of MOrton BOURN.

According to the VA census of 1830, and the MO censuses of 1840 and 1850, Morton BOURN was born ca 1795, in VA.

He and Elizabeth had eight children: Martha, Mildred, William, Lucinda, Elizabeth, Morton Jr., Sarah Jane, and John Greenlee born between 1820 and 1835 - all born in VA.

Since I have no substantiation beyond the existence of Morton BOURN, I have been treating Mary Bourn BARNETT's family tree will some skepticism when it comes to Morton's parents.

Your mention of Culpepper county migh very well be helpful. Thus far, I've been looking in Frederick County where he was married and to a certain extent in Berkeley COunty (was VA, now WVA) where a "Morton BOURNE" own some property on back creek.

I am related to John Bourne & Harriet Day.
Their daughter, Ada Eliza Bourne b.1869 was my gt gt grandmother on my maternal side.
Ada Eliza Bourne married George Thomas Hammond in 1888 and they had 5 children. George Thomas Hammond died in an accident in 1897 and Ada Eliza Hammond neé Bourne remarried to a Henry John Male. They went on to have 3 children.
I am related to the Hammond side through their daughter Beatrice Ellen Hammond b.1892 who was my great grandmother.

I am doing research from a different angle. I have on the marriage cert of my Gt Grandfather Alfred Bourne a Richard Bourne named as his father. However, my sister and I cannot trace our Richard with any reasonable certainty. So we are tracking him down by elimination. If we can prove that your Richard b1832 son Alfred is not our relation then we can eliminate your Bourne family from our enquiries.

Do you still have this book? My great great grandfather is John Dudley Bird, Madeline's father (I believe). I just spent the day going through old family photos with my mother and she asked me to "find the Madeline Bird who had written the book about the family history" -- apparantly we had a copy but it's been lost. I did find one on Amazon (!) and just ordered it before stumbling on your post, and I'd love to get another copy if you're still willing to ship.

We have an incredible collection of Bird family photos from 1885 through the 1930s; I would be happy to digitize some and email them if you're interested.

I read on the message board that you are related to a Morris and James Bourne.
My name is Leola Ann O'Neill nee Bourne. My father was Arthur Frederick Bourne and his father Michael Bourne was born on Navigators Island, Samoa in December 1848. On Michael's death certificate his parents are listed as Morris Bourne and Eliza Moltamuis.
I have written to BDM Samoa trying to get copies of birth certificates but no replies.
From information I have found through Ancestry and Roots I think that the James Bourne born in Dublin around 1804 could be my grandfather Michael's grandfather.
I have not been able to find when Michael came to Australia. He married Charlotte Kelly in 1865 at Inverell, NSW. They had 12 children, 3 in NSW, a daughter Maryann in Fiji in 1881 and the rest of the family were born in New Zealand. Michael was a blacksmith and they were Catholics.
Michael and family came back to Australia in 1906 except for Maryann who stayed in NZ and married Ernest Tait and had two daughters. I keep in touch with her grandchildren and we have visited each other.
Do you have any information that could help me find my Samoan relations.

I have been wondering if you have had any luck in tracing our Bourne relations. I have not got passed my grandfather Michael who was born on Navigators Island. Have you been able to get any copies of birth certificates or death certificates. I have not had any luck in tracing a death of John Bourne in Qld or NSW.

Can you send me your address an I will send you the Bourne tree from my grandfather Michael to me. Also a photo of Michael. Do you have any old photos. Sorry I have taken so long to write to you again but I broke my leg and have spent 11 weeks in hospital. It was great to come home.

We may have some antecedents in common!

I'm researching my mother's maternal side - Church from Kiltoghert. On my tree I have a Frances Emily Bourns B abt 1840 and Elizabeth Henderson Bournes B 1837 who married Marmaduke Church They had a son (one of many children) called Charles Wilson Church (B 1868) which suggests a link with your CWB.

I'd be happy to share with you what I have & perhaps we can both further our researches as a result!

The father of Francis and Elizabeth Bourns was Robert Wilson Bourns,b. abt.1806.Among his many children was Arthur Henderson Bourns ( my grandfather) and Charles Wilson Bourns, b.1847.Elizabeth also had a large family, including a son she named Charles Wilson Bourns. b.1868. As you can see the latter was the nephew of of the Charles Wilson Bourns, b. 1847.

Hello. According to my father, my g,g, grandfather was a William S. (possibly Samuel) Bourne from Missouri that married a cousin named Hill in KY. My memory is fuzzy however I can look up some of the information I have if you wish. Also, I have a nephew that has done extensive research on the Bourne ancestory.
