It would be an aspect of your surname study to evolve as more people join. Some pioneers would help :-) http://www.familytreedna.com/public/bowes/default.aspx

Feel free to join our Facebook page too!

Martha Bowes

The name I have is John B(oposen) Bouse b abt 1747 in Hereford Twp., Berks Co., Pennsylvania, died 6 Sept 1803 in Pendleton Co., Virginia (WV). Married Anna Jane Sandlin abt 1786 in Berks Co., PA, she was born June 1747 in Berks Co., Pa., (have also found Pendleton Co., VA), she died 9 Feb 1832 in Riverton, Pendleton, Virginia.
I have found a John Bouse coming from the Netherlands to America. Also, one coming from Port of Havanna, Cuba, Ship "Holker" Port of Arrival Philadelphia, PA., (Record from Philadelphia, PA 1800-1945 Passenger Records, Microfilm M425_1) date of arrival was 28 Mar 1800. Not sure if this is the same John Bouse???? Hope this has helped a little, my line is from Frederick Jacob Bouse.
Barb Vickers

Hi, Robert, First, I have little time for this, but I will let you know now and later what I can. Adam Bouse may or may not be the earliest in his line to have come to the United States from Europe. My aunt, whose name I no longer recall did the most research on the Bouse line you speak of down to her generation in about the 1950s. I do not have her records. My brother Robert C. Bouse has some of it and we differ in our memory of some of it. For example Germany: he remembers Germany, but in a different way than I. He says Germany, plain and simple. I recall Palatine or Palatinate, which may just be a crossroads for mercenaries drafted to fight in the American Revolutionary War. I also recall Bohemia, now a part of the Czech Republic, which too might be just a crossroads for dispatching troops drawn from elsewhere. For example I found rare references to ‘Bouse’ in Czech Republic and Slovakia records. Others say it was ‘Anglicized’ from some earlier name.
The county you mention is Pendleton County. And yes it is in West Virginia now, but in Adam’s time, Adam Bouse that is, it was a part of Virginia, I believe. Adam Bouse is listed in the 1910 and 1920 censuses for Pendleton if I remember correctly.
As a former English teacher I have a suggestion. Always date and sign your requests, at the beginning or end. Don’t rely on the message board, although it is very important that the message board is dated, for that helps organize the queue and otherwise document the essential information. George Alvarez-Bouse, N.Y., NY. 09 03 2011.
Update: I wanted to say that I appreciate the responses I have gotten via private message on this subject so far. Let me explain a bit more in detail as to exactly what I am looking for and maybe if some of you know anything you can clue me in on it.

At this point I am looking at:

The Sisters of Stella D. BOUSE
The Nieces of Stella D. BOUSE
The Sisters of Walter TINKER
The Nieces of Walter TINKER

Common sense tells me that I am looking for a Female, My husband at this point would rather not believe that his grandmother may have been unfaithful, though I have told him, this could very well be the case. So, to satisfy him and to make certain that I am leaving no stone unturned, I am looking closely at all the young ladies in the family that would have been old enough to have conceived a child during that time period. It is possible a Sister in Law or a Niece may have gotten pregnant out of wedlock and could not raise the child and Walter and Stella took him in and gave him the TINKER surname and nothing was ever said. My father in laws birth certificate states that his fathers name was Walter TINKER and his mother Stella D. BOUSE. However, perhaps they legally adopted him. As I stated in my prior post, DNA does not lie and I need that paper trail to back this up. Thanks again in advance, I appreciate all responses of help.

Gwen

This is my husbands grandmother. I am looking for information on her. I already have her birth date and census records and her marriage record to Walter TINKER in Parma, New Madrid, Missouri. I would like some other information on her and I am hoping that some of the BOUSE researchers may be able to help me. I have listed the questions that I have below and would appreciate any replies I might could get. Thanks in advance!

My husband had his DNA tested and it appears that Stella was his Grandmother but Walter TINKER was not his grandfather, we need to find out as much information about Stella and her whereabouts as possible, this is critical to us. All we have is DNA and it does not lie, we need a paper trail to back this up. I am begging anyone who knows anything to please come forward. Thanks again!

Stella D. BOUSE was born 23 Jan 1907 in Crawford County, Missouri. On 24 Jan.,1923 in Parma, New Madrid, Missouri she married one Walter TINKER. Stella was 16 years old at the time of the marriage. Her youngest son, my husbands father, Leo Doyle TINKER was born 25 June, 1930 in Parma, New Madrid, Missouri. Does anyone know of any marital issues or problems between Stella and Walter? Could they have adopted Leo? I am looking for a connection between Stella and a man by the surname of FANCHER. Any connections between the two or even with Walter, would be of great help. The FANCHER family in Question, resided in Stone County, Missouri and I am aware that Stellas Parents, the BOUSE family resided in Washington County, Missouri at that time. Any connections to the BOUSE, TINKER and FANCHER family are needed.

I know I am grasping at straws here but I am hoping someone knows something and they will come forward. My husband has a lot of unanswered questions concerning his heritage and his parents and grandparents left us no paper trail to follow.

For those that are interestd in how this Bouse lineage connects to Harpers and Conrads ,please email me. The Paul family is connected to the Bouse, Conrad's and Harpers that were in Wash. and Crawford Co., Mo. They are desc. of John Bouse and Barbara Hedrick. They also have a Harper line. Our line descends from Frederick and Barbara Conrad, who had two sisters who married Harpers. Frederick and John were brothers who left Virginia and one went to Ohio and the other to Ohio. Desc. and families of both came to Missouri about the same time. It has been years sorting out this information, and not done yet.
Fred, I would say that you did an excellent synoposis on the family line. I am still researching and found some new data to fill in on Felix Bouse, son of Frederick and Barbara Bouse. Felix married before the 1850 census so he had moved away from Cass (Van Buren Co.) Mo. They stayed mostly in the Joplin and Vernon Co., area, except during the Civil War when Lydia and children were in Douglas Co., Ks, then returned to Missouri.
As you know Felix and Joshua John were brothers also Silas which is my husbands great grandfather.

Dee

I don't know if this is real. I hope you still check these reply's. My mother had this piece of paper hidden away for years. She was cleaning out her house, and brought it to me. I have been researching and found this site. Anyway, this parchment tells of Frederick Bouse, who was apart of Captain's Johnston's Company Virginia Militia War 1812. The paper tells that his widow Barbary Bouse and heirs are entitled to 160 acres near Warsaw, Missouri. This paper was signed by James Buchanan President in 1859. Hope to hear from you.

Well, now you have really piqued my husband's curiosity - was the sampler passed down to you and if so, from which ancestor? If possible, we would love a picture of it - so you have a digital camera?

I've never been able to discover who her father was. Her mother was Sarah, who was born abt 1800 in Virginia and died sometime in the 1860s in New Market, Shenandoah, Virginia. I know of 2 siblings, both sisters and older than Virginia. Frences, born abt 1824 and died in 1887, married John Harrison Burke and had a family. Sarah, born abt 1830 and died in 1891, married William Sewell Braithwaite and had a family.

Sue

One of the reasons I am writing is to ask where your father was laid to rest. It appears that he may be in the Glendale Az area but that is all I know. I would also like to know any information you would have on your dads brother and sisters. I have some info but not a great deal.
The first record found for John and Anna Jane Bouse was in the 1800 census (John Bous) and 1810 census (John Bouse)in Berks County, PA. John served with the PA Militia during the American Revolution. They had seven children; John Jr., Frederick, George, Adam, Suzannah, Jepo, and Phoebe. The family moved from PA to Virginia, but no record as to when. After John’s death, Anna Jane married a man named Shall. Anna Jane is listed as being between 70 and 80 years of age on the 1830 census for Pendleton County. I found her grave marker in the Dolly-Landis Cemetery on Horse Ridge Road south of Riverton, West Virginia in July 2000.
John Jr., the oldest son, married Barbary Ellen Hedrick around 1810. They moved to Fayette County, Ohio, where they are listed on the Ohio census for 1820. John Jr. had died by 1830. John & Anna Jane's second son, Frederick, married Barbary Conrad. They had nine children born in Virginia (Silas, Adam, Jacob, John, Felix, Job, Joshua Jehu, Frederick Jr., and Christina). They went to Cole County, Illinois in 1831. Their two youngest children (Isabella and Sarah) were born in Cole County. Frederick bought a farm on Camp Branch, near East Lynne, Missouri around 1833. Joshua Jehu and Barbary Ann Murrey were married in 1850. In 1853 Joshua and Barbary Ann, Barbary’s parents, and several others left Cass County in an Oxen-drawn wagon train - - California bound. They arrived in Jackson, Amador County, CA on September 16, 1853. Not long after, Thomas Bouse was born. Joshua Jehu died in Jackson, CA in the 1850’s. After Joshua Jehu died, Barbary Ann married Alan Williams. They had six children together. Barbary Ann Williams was buried in an I.O.O.F. cemetery in San Diego. Thomas lived in Bishop, CA until 1882 when he went to Brayton, Arizona. He was a trader and storekeeper and was also the first prospector to make a strike in that region.

I am in contact with a great-grandson of Thomas and have alerted him that some interest has been expressed in Bouse, AZ on this site. Perhaps he will respond with additional information.

Fred Bouse,
Great-grandson of John Bouse, brother of Joshua Jehu.
