Mary D. Mannarelli Bove
Mary D. Bove, age 93, of Millcreek,pa,
passed away Wednesday April 13, 2011.
at Walnut Creek.
She was born March 29, 1918 in Erie,pa,
the daughter of the late Leonard C. and Michelina DeSantis Mannarelli.
Mary attended Academy High School and St. Vincent School of Nursing. She then attended Villa Maria College where she graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Nursing. She pursued graduate studies at Duke University and Edinboro College. She began her nursing career at St. Vincent Health Center where she worked as staff supervisor and nurse educator. Later, Mrs. Bove was a familiar face to many students and faculty serving as school nurse in the Erie School District where she worked until her retirement. In addition to her nursing career, Mary was involved in a number of organizations including the Florence Crittenton Home and the Dr. Gertrude Barber Center.
She was a devout member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church
and was a member of the Montenero Ladies Society.
In addition to her parents,
she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Fred F. Bove and a sister, Mrs. Angelina DiTullio.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Marianne Bove of Erie; two sons; Fred and Leonard Bove, both of San Francisco, Calif.;
a sister Miss Vera Mannarelli of Erie ,pa,
and many nieces and nephews,
including Esther Gallagher and Dolores Garvey.
The family wishes to thank the staff
of the Golden Living Center at Walnut Creek for their outstanding care during the last months of her life. Friends are invited to call at the John J. Quinn Funeral Home, West 9th & Liberty St. Sunday from 2-5 & 7-9 p.m.and are invited to attend Prayer Services there Monday at 9:00 a.m.followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m.in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Florence Crittenton Home, 643 E. 6th St., Erie, PA 16507; Perseus House, 1511 Peach St., Erie, PA 16501 or the Barber National Institute, 100 Barber Pl, Erie, PA 16507.
