Bows from Dorset and surrounding area may wish to visit my page of maps showing the Bow name distribution in the UK in the 1881 census. They suggest two origins, one in Scotland and one in SW England, probably Dorset: http://www.bowesonenamestudy.com/findings_2/distribution_and...

I have a strong interest in having some male Bow descending from SW England participate in the Bowes (and variants) One-Name Study DNA project. We have two Bow/e from Scotland in it (but can always use more since there may be more than one Y chromosome lineage from there), but no Bow from England. We have one Bow from the US who doesn't know what country his family came from. There is a group of Bowe in Ireland who could be possible matches.

Just being brief here so apologize if this is clear as mud. Feel free to ask questions.
