The Bow Family that came from the Southwest of England (Dorset)

Although no-one seems to have been on this line for a while, I have just found you ... and am new to genealogical research. My "branch" of the Bow family came from Dorset, although I was born in Surrey, England. We moved here in the 1950s but it seems we are not the first!! I noticed that one Alexander Bow, then Samuel, and even Thankful Bow, lived in the early 1600s in Connecticut. They would seem to be Plymouth Brethren which means they came from the south of England ... and I have been quite surprised to find that there are so many Bows in Scotland.

I have another name I am looking for. Family stories suggest that ALBERT WILLIAM BOW, born 1866, Guildford, Surrey, England, came to Canada at some point, presumably the late 1800s. It is quite possible that it was not Canada but AMERICA!! My father John Bow believed that the Bow River in Calgary was named after this great-uncle of his, but the library tells me the river valley provided just the right kind of saplings to make bows and arrows! I haven't had the heart to take this version of history back to my father.

Any idea how I find out about him, A W, that is? The World Family Tree lists an A W Bow, although there is no other information, but as most of the information there is American, I was intrigued with the thought that he might have descendants somewhere in North America ...

I hope you all check back in once in a while and can offer assistance.

Bye for now,

Moira Bow in British Columbia, Canada
