The name has been BAUDOUIN all the time the other is a miss spelling. The Baudouin name goes back to the first I found to 827 AD. I do have a new book out about the early Baudouin/Bowdoin families and the Royal connection. sueannbee@aol.com if you want a book.

Hi all.

I've managed to trace my family back to a William Bowdoin born in 1797 (in Ripley, Sommerset Maine), married to Wealthy Bowdoin (b1820 d1864) and had children John, Susan, William, Sam, Orinda, Louisa, Silas and Michael.

Does anyone have have info about William's parents?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

So far, I have only been able to trace back to John Lorenzo Bowdoin, DOB: 1856. His brother, was Howard Bowdoin, born 1860. They are from Griffin, Spalding, GA, however, they have all ended up in California.
Also, John Lorenzo's wife was Nettie Sparks, may have originally been known as Antonette.

You may not be on the website any longer, but "John Baudouin" came over from Belgium in 1887. His son "Joseph" changed it to "Bauduin". I think the other brothers changed it as well.

Yes, it was changed by Joseph Bauduin, who was born 1892, after his father "John" came over from Belgium. It is now "Bauduin"

Bowdoin Family Crest

When I was younger (I'm 20 now), my grandfather Alto C. Bowdoin Jr. gave me a patch of the family crest that he would normally sell at the family reunion in Alabama. If anyone knows what I'm talking about please email me at cristosdethbed@gmail.com.

I plan on getting it tattooed on my back (I already have Bowdoin tattooed across), but I was wondering if anyone has any different variations. My grandfather has a slightly different crest hanging in his living room, so it made me wonder if there were any more.

Her correct Name was Tempa A. Arwood. She was the daughter of Jessie Arwood, who was the son of John Hensley Arrowood. Jessie moved to Coffee County, Alabama and that is where Tempa married Daniel

I show Tempa A. Arwood married to Daniel T. Bowdoin. She was the daughter of Jessie Arwood who was the son of John Hensley Arrowood. Jessie changed the spelling or the census taker did. They had a son named George Washington Bowdoin which would indicate some connection to someone else with the name of "George Washington".

I rec'd your request for my email address.

I purchased a book you wrote after we had some correspondance. You indicated that you had definitive links to Pierre's family. When I rec'd the book I found general assumptions that I have seen elsewhere, i.e. that the Baudouin's are related the Baldwin's and that the origin's probably date to the 800's. What I was looking for was the family line, the names of the people in order showing who had who for mother/father.

This would really be exciting news -- as we've been hunting for his mother for so long.

Some had said she might be a Macon -- but we couldn't find anything to substantiate that either.

I would love to correspond with you about the Bowdoin family. My mother's line includes Bowdoins who settled in Georgia, USA. They are believed to have descended from John and Elizabeth Folsom Bowdoin. Much circumstantial evidence exists that this is the correct southern line of the Bowdoin (Bowden) family but would like your input. Thanks!

This, too, is part of my lineage. I read several pages on the descendants of Pierre Bowdoin and it stated that one male and his family did move south. If I remember correctly, one book about the early history of Naushon Island, Maine, told part of the family's story. Have you found any links to James' father, William?

Now...here is what may be the problem with you finding your roots. In 1685, king Louis XIV revoked the Edict of Nantes.
many of the Baudouin family moved to other places to avoid death because they were Huguenots. the families soght refuge in Prussia, anouther established themselves in the Low Lands, and the third branch in England, Pierre Baudouin was the branch that came to what became America. All the people who are "Bowdoin" are related to this family. The Hebri Auguste Baudouin was in Germany and his title was that he was from Noue. He lived around 1710-1800. *-William B Bowdoin 1802-1870. He died in Deatsville, Elmore county, Alabama. In the United Methodist Church Cemetery. He is buried next to a woman's grave and the toumbstone reads, Elizabeth 1853 or 1833-1874. It is very warn and is hard to read. It may be his daughter Elizabeth. He is listed as a carpenter. you. Emily Cooper & William were married in Montgomery, Alabama in 1824.

Sorry, I did what I fuss about others doing. James Alfred Arwood, birth name Alford James Bowdoin, born 7 Jul 1887 Coffee Co, AL, gave his mother's name as Bay Arwood and father Charlie Bowdoin in 1953. Bay may have been a nickname for Eugenia Arwood, 1867-1896, daughter of George W. Arwood (1834-1921) and Sarah Ann Harper. James was listed with George and then wife Georgia in 1900 as Alford J Bowdoin with his sisters Ollie (1890) and Ethel (1891). Looking for info on father - Charlie Bowdoin probably of Coffee Co, AL.
