September 20, 1926 - ESTEEMED MOTHER DIES AT TIGRETT, AGED 93-
Mrs. Rebecca Jane (Watson) Bowen, one of the oldest citizens of Dyer County, died Monday afternoon at 1 o'clock at her home in Tigrett. She was born in Virginia, October 17, 1832, and would have been 94 years of age next month. She came to Dyer County in her infancy. She was the daughter of the late Beverly Watson, who aws one of the first school teachers in Dyersburg [TN], and it was in Dyersburg she received the first part of her education.
She has been a devoted member of the Church of Christ for more than 60 years. She has lead a sweet Christian life, always ready to sympathize and help others in hours of trouble or need.
Mrs. Bowen is survived by two sons, J.H. Bowen of Tigrett and J.L. Bowen of Paragould, Ark., and a daughter, Mrs. S.G. Vernon of Friendship, and a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was the grandmother of Emmett Clark, Mrs. Dora Lovin of Dyersburg, and Mrs. Luther Edwards of Finley. Besides the three children, there are 13 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted at Bethel by Rev. Woody of Henderson and interment took place at Bowen's Chapel.
