Thomas Bowen & Second wife, Frances Ann "Fanny" Spears

Thomas Bowen, b ca 1799, died in 1862 Coffee County, Tenn. In 1870 Coffee County, Fanny was head of household, with their son, Thomas Bowen, and Cullen [though listed by surname of head of household], and 26 year old Sarah Gray. Does anyone know who Sarah Gray was? Was she related to Bowen? Spears? Or neither?

Cullen, b ca 1846, was not Thomas's son, and so far I have found no other spouse for Fanny, and cannot find Cullen in 1850. Fanny is living with her presumed parents in 1850, but no Cullen in the h/h.

In 1880 Coffee County, Cullen Spears was married, and head of household. Fanny, Thomas and Pinkney were also in the household; again listed under the surname of the h/h as Spears.

Looking for any information on Elvira Bowen - my gggrandmother. She married Marion Pinegar in Illinois and is supposed to be Cherokee - daughter of a chief.
I can find no record of her prior to her marriage.
In census records she lists birth places as Illinois and Wisconsin for herself and parents but I can find no trace of them in either place in census records.
Elvira had 5 children - Frank, Retta, Levi, Richard, Millie and Nora Pinegar. Nora was born in 1895 in Indian Territory. THe only other thing I know about Elvira is that she remarried between 1901 and 1910 (presumably after the death of Marion). Her second husband's name was Robert Bootman and in 1910 they are in Arkansas.
Would appreciate any help here. I have a photo of Marion, Elvira and 4 of their children taken in 1880.
Thanks
Married Elizabeth, suname unknown ca 1847, probably Coffee County, Tennessee. Records of Coffee County for that period not available. William M, Elizabeth and son Joseph, age approximately one year, on 1850 Coffee County, Tennessee Census. No other record found.

There are so many William Bowens in the area, but of all those I've found, I can't identify any as him. Did he die in the Civil War? Did he migrate elsewhere? What happened to Elizabeth and son, Joseph? Were there other children later?

William was the brother of my great-grandfather, Thomas George Bowen, b 1825 Rutherford County, Tenn; d 1882 MO. Would like to identify his siblings. Others are: John b ca 1822 [found him]; Martha J, b ca 1830; M [Mary?] H, b ca 1835; James, b ca 1838; Nancy E, b ca 1842.

William M & Thomas were married and on the 1850 Coffee County Census. The others are with their parents in Coffee County 1850, except John, b ca 1822, who was still in Cannon County 1850. James and John together in 1860 Coffee; John in Gibson 1870. and 1880 {?}.

Daniel Bowen Line

My family line, that have been able to document, begins with Daniel Bowen born in Columbus Co., NC, in 1811 or 1810. We have always thought that he came from the Clifton Bowen line because in the 1860 Census there is a Lewis Bowen (born in 1780) listed in the household of Daniel Bowen as eighty years of age. The only Lewis Bowen that I have found for that age was born in Duplin Co., but I am unable find his father. I know Clifton Bowen settled in Duplin Co., which used to be New Hanover Co.

Also, several years ago before a relative passed away at the age of 88, we were told that their dad's relatives were from Bath Co. Does anyone have any information on the Bowens from Columbus or Duplin Co., NC? I would really appreciate your help?

John Harless Bowen

There is a bio for a John Bowen born abt 1800 who married Mary Burton. Says his father was John Harless Bowen.

Does anyone know the names of John Harless Bowen's children, besides John Jr?

The bio says John Harless Bowen Sr had 14 children in his family (not sure if that means children, or siblings though).

Rebecca Sophia Bowen and William Van Allen

I'm looking for info on Rebecca Sophia Bowen (b. 1804 Nova Scotia) who married William Van Allen (b. 1798).

I believe Rebecca is descended from the Obadiah Bowen (b. 1626) who emmigrated from Wales to Mass. in the mid 1600's. I believe her father was William Daniel Bowen and her Grandfather was Daniel Bowen (Loyalist, b. 1742 in NJ) and his wife, Sarah Daniel.

William Van Allen is descended from Pieter Geritse Van Halen who emmigrated from Holland to New Jersey in about 1706. His parents were Henry Van Alen and Wyntjie Rapaelje (loyalists who emigrated from NJ to Ontario).

I would appreciate any info confirming the Bowen line. Also info on Sarah Daniels or Rebecca Bowen's mother (unknown) or Rebecca's siblings. Always glad to hear from "cousins" too.

VVDeLuca
Native American and Bowen events 1700's to 1815 *

My earliest known Bowen ancestor was John W Bowen born about 1815 in South Carolina. I never could find his parents although I was sure he was either from the Moses Bowen line or the Samuel H Bowen line. Upon taking a Y-DNA 25 test I found that I don't match any other Bowen in the Y-DNA database. Not only that but my basic genetic signature (Haplogroup) is most consistent with those of American Indian ancestry. I'm getting a secondary test done to confirm this. If indeed this is confirmed then it implies that either a Native American child was adopted by a Bowen family in the (approx) 1740 - 1815 time frame or that a male child was born to an American Indian father and somehow ended up with the Bowen surname. If anyone knows of a possible event that could explain a Bowen lineage by name, but with Native American ancestry I'd sure like to know about it. Looks like I'll be focussing by research in this direction now.

Seeking information on parentage of Benjamin F. BRINKLEY, b. ca 1813 and did not return from Civil War and his wife Mary E. BOWEN, b. ca 1814 and d. 1897 Pender Co., NC and buried at Mt. Holly Baptist Church Cem (Rt. 117) near Watha, NC.

This family lived in the Watha area of northern Pender County (New Hanover County prior to 1875). I've hit roadblocks in trying to find the parents for either person.

There appears to be a relationship with the Boney family and Southerland family, but I've no proof.

My line from these two people is as follows:
1. Benjamin F. Brinkley = Mary E. Bowen
2. Boney Southerland Brinkley = Hasseltine Judson Garriss (d/o Rufus W. Garriss)
3. Wesley Southerland Brinkley = Annie Thelma Chesnutt (s/o John Nicholas Chesnutt)

Any information on Benjamin F. Brinkley and wife Mary E. Bowen would be greatly appreciated.

My email is griffin0909@earthlink.net

Thanks!
William Bowen Family Ohio / born PA 1797

Hi
I'm stuck on one Bowen family in Ohio 1850 census.
Father is William Bowen aged 54, Born in PA
mother is Mercy (??) aged 41. Born in PA
Children are: (in 1850)
Mary age 15 (Born in Ohio for all kids)
George age 13
Stiles (actual name is Danforth Stiles Bowen) age 11
Samuel age 9
James age 7
William H. age 5
Clark age 3

I know a great deal about this family as I have somelettters from 1864/5 to Mary bowen then living in Cardington, Morro3w county Ohio from James B who is in the Civil War and who then became a POW at Andersonville. Danforth S (Stiles) also died inthe Civil War.

The family however, even before the Civil War is MIA in the census -- the parents are nowhere to be found unless William moved away but Mercy the mother is not anywhere in the census nationwide that I have found and they are not as a family in the same area. The closest I have found besides knowing that at least two of the sons were in the Union War Ohio 43rd Regiment it appears that the younger boys Samual and William may be living with other Bowen relatives in Ohio (although they could be those parents real kids too... I don't know) and Clark could be living in Western NY with other Bowen relatives although again this could be the son of the parents Bowen. Since Clark in that other ffamily is listed with a sister 2 years younger and the other children of the Bowen family he is living with are well older than him I'm wondering if perhaps Mercy died in childbirth of a girl and William died young or soemthing leaving Mary at age 18 in charge of the other kids. Whatever -- somethign devestating happened in that fmily and I don't know what it was other than the two that I knowof who died in the Civil War. I also know that since both parents were born in PA that the family ties go that way unless other brothrs of the parents decided to homestead in Ohio as well.

Does anyone have a Mary Bowen being married into their family after 1865 perhaps in Morrow County Ohio? any help would be greatly appreciated.

write at tamraburgwardt@yahoo.com
I am searching for information and desc. of Walter A. Bowen, b.Dec. 17, 1882 in Mass., son of Andrew and Mary (Bigelow) Bowen. In the 1920 census, he was living with his parents, was a civil engineer and listed as being married for 3 years. I found a marriage record for him and Anna Seagraves on Nov 14, 1906, but she is not listed on the 1910 census with him. Is he the same Walter A. Bowen that is living in Philadelphia, PA in the 1930 census with wife,Caroline? Thanks for any help.
