JAMES BOWEN b. 1842/3 in Llangunllo, Wales

I am seeking information about James Bowen, born 1842/3 in Llangunllo, Radnorshire to Joseph and Ann Bowen. He married Jane Davies in 1872 and they had two daughters, Martha and Lena. James divorced Jane in 1884, after which I can find no trace of him. I am wondering if perhaps he emigrated. I should be very grateful for any assistance in finding out what happened to him.

William Arthur Bowen & Anna Mae Wright Marriage / Maryland

So I have some family notes here saying that one of my gggf's, William Arthur Bowen (b: 23 Mar 1876, d: 23 May 1971) married one Anna Mae Wright (b: 15 Sept 1882, d: 31 Jul 1963) somewhere around Deer Park Maryland in Garrett County around 13 Feb 1901. The problem is...I can't find a marriage certificate, index, microfilm....nothin.' Any help here? Also...I cannot find Anna's (or Annie) family on the census in 1880...anybody got that?

Brian
cinemanfilm@yahoo.com

Help finding my great-grandmother's parents

I am stuck and am hoping someone with knowledge of the Bowen's will be able to help me. My g-grandmother was Leacy Ann Bowen Minyard aka Leecie, Lecie. She was born in 1861 in TX. The 1870 census shows her in the household of James HULETT Angelina Co.,TX. His wife listed as Arthenie, I believe to be the widow of Caleb TATUM, LA. The other children in the house are either Hulett's or Tatum's. I believe Arthenie's maiden name to be AINSWORTH. Arthenie and her children were born in LA. I believe her husband Caleb might have been killed in the CW. In 1900 census, Leacy's parents were shown to be from Louisiana and Texas respectively. In 1910, they were shown as both being from Alabama. I don't know where the discrepancies are, I would assume the census taker asked Leacy herself the questions. Maybe she really didn't know or found out at a later time the birthplaces of her parents. Sorry for the long message, hope someone can help.

Thanks for responding. I have a Newkirk Genealogy book that was compiled in the 1970's. I corresponded with Omega Hutchison, the author, and tried to follow up on her source for this information. That source was deceased. I have this information but can not verify it and have some doubts that this is the right Thomas Bowen. I have seen other sources that say these parents of this Thomas Bowen married a Zumwault and moved south. I am from the Charles David Bowen line. Have you verified this line or have any other help?

I have had several genealogists contact me through the years that this Thomas, the son of the one Thomas Sr. and Mary Bowen, from Oneida Co., NY, is the one who married the Zumwalt, and our Jemima Newkirk married a different Thomas Bowen who died in Indiana as the family was on its way to Missouri. I have searched lots of early records for Bowens for his possible parents and am still searching. I have also never found where he was buried. I am searching for someone who might be working on this line.

I am from the 2nd marriage when Charles David Bowen married Mary Ann James. His son, Charles James Bowen, is my line.

I believe we have the same source (complied by Mrs. Preston Hutchinson and Miss Naomi Woods) on the Newkirk Family which lists Thomas L. Bowen. I have not verified this information myself. Is the data you have found linking Thomas Bowen to a Zumwalt suggesting he married her after Jemima Newkirk or do you think it's a different Thomas Bowen altogether?

I am also directly related to Charles David Bowen. My link is through his daughter Amanda.

Hi Jo,

From my research John Bewen senior married 1792 is my wife's Great, great, Great, great grandfather I had his son John on the 1851 Census in East Bergho;t where he was a Bailiff, his son JOHN and grandson John were at the same address.

The youngest John moved to the East End of London and worked as Head Drayman for the Charrington Brewery in Mile End, he lived at 1 Tollet Street just around the corner, he only had daughters, Rosina Caroline Buen married William John Laken in 1899 , their firstborn William Steven John Laken was my wife's father.

We only had the spelling Buen and would never have searched for Bowen. I knew a man from Eseex who's name was Haxell and yet his ancestors had been called Hawkswell, Enumerators often wrote the name as it was pronounced.

If you have any information on the Bowen,s further back I would appreciate it.

many thanks,

Adam Hall
