I am also the great-great granddaughter of Toney and Henrietta Bowens. My grandfather was their youngest son William Arthur Bowen. I am putting together a detailed account of our family and trying to find photos of Toney and Henrietta, all of their children as well as Toney and Henrietta's parents. Any info you have and would like to share will be greatly appreciated!

Tanisha Ruth-Jones

Her parent's names were Addison Milton Bowen b 1858 and Mary Ann Parnell b b 1868. They lived in Kansas. Where did your family live? Mary Ann Parnell's father's name was Andrew Jackson Parnell b abt 1843. hmmmm!

Bowen or Bowens? in TX before 1860

I haven't had luck just using the surname Bowen so thought I would try Bowens. My great grandmother was Leacy or Leecie Ann Bowen Minyard B. TX 1861. I cannot find out who her parents are. In the 1870 census she shows up in the household of James E. Hulett and wife Artheney. There are Hulett and Tatum children in this house along with Leecie as the lone Bowen. I don't know the relationship to either Hulett or Ainsworth (which I have deduced to be Artheney's maiden name). Perhaps she was a niece. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Jenny,

Need help with the surname Bowens from the AfAm line. Some census will have the same person with both spellings, with and with out the s. My Bowens were in Coweta Co GA for awhile before going to Texas. They can also be found in TN and SC, are both races tied together in anyway.

Old School Photo including Vivian Bowens - likely Illinois

I recently purchased a bunch of old photos while visiting Illinois. One photo shows 29 children. One of the names listed on the reverse is "Vivian Bowens". I would guess that she is on the front row, far right. The photo is also noted "Room 3, Lincoln School". Could this be Lincoln, Illinois??

Attached is a copy of the photo. If this is one of your ancestors, please contact me.

So far as I can tell, Bowens females married into one of the Smith branches around Lawrence Co, MS, but no female Smith's marrying Bowen(s), at least not yet. In what area did she live?

William Franklin Bowens

I am looking for ancestors or relatives of William Franklin Bowens or Bowen, who lived in Gibson & Weakley Co. Tennessee after the Civil War. He was married to Martha Jane Betts in 1866, their marriage license reads "Frank and Jane". Family lore says he was born near Centralia IL, about 1842. Some census listings say IL, others say TN. His parents were from SC(father) and NC(mother). The 1890 veterans listing says he was a Union soldier - quite unusual for where he was living in Tennessee - but he has not been identified among official lists of Civil War vets of North or South. Searches of Bowen, Boren, Boen in various forms have not produced any known ancestors, nor any known census listing for W. F. prior to 1870.

Jennifer-
I've been reading old posts in desparation. I am new to the geneology search. I wondered if you had a Susie A. Bowen Lewis b: 8/10/1884 and died 1/25/1964. She was my maternal great grandmother. When I first started searching family said her name was Suzie Bones, so I understand spelling variations, but I still can find nothing. I have visited her grave in the Evans Cemetery in Kentucky, but it is a very old stone marker, barely legible. I believe her husband's name was David, but this is from family and I have found nothing confirming exact information. Any thing you can send me is greatly appreciated.
Bowens in MS

Dear Brenda,

I feel your concerns! I am 22 years old and I lost my father at the age of 11, and did not know him that well. But I did get to talk to my grandmother a few times before she passed away this past August. She had just made 87. So, I got to get a little information on our family history. So if there is anything that I can help you with, please let me know. The only thing that I can think of is that I was told that we have four different ways to spell our name and that we are related to each of them. Bowens, Bowen, Bourens, Bouren. Then if any one has family with those last naem spellings that have family that originally came from Mississippi, then we are related. So, I hope that this helps. I know that I have some family in MS, but I do not know to much about them. But I really hope that this helps you.

Neshaya Bowens
a*k*a
Shay
