I am related to William Henry Bowerman born 1873 Summertown Oxford, married Annie Elizabeth Hedges. One of their children Margery Doreena Bowerman was my grandmother. The snag is she had my father adopted as the father was not her husband. She married Leslie Robert Carter and remained with him as he wrote to my father in the late 1980s about Margery apparently already dying. So we never met her.
My father was David John Lyndon.Adopted he became Lodge.
I have all the details on Genes Reunited.

The book has been out of print for years. I have one of the two I know of in central PA. The title of the book is: Legacy of Life by M.D. DiNinni. I am the great great grand-daughter of Catherine Bowerman, who, I belive, is a sister of the William Bowerman referred to in these postings. If this is the same William C. Bowerman, his parents were Johannes Bauerman and Anna Maria Woland. I am currently visiting PA doing research and hope to find that book too! Please tell me the name of the book.

To date, no one has determined the origins of Thomas Bowerman, other than a scant reference to Kent, that maty not have been his own words.

A lot of information on THomas and his descendants can be found on my website at: http://hawkshome.net.

We also have a DNA project at work which involves some descendants of Ichabod and attempting to discover more of Thomas' origins.

I am a relative of ELIAS (John and Mary's son). He is my Great Grandfather. He married Martha Ann Livermore and had children Melissa - Minerva - Alonzo (my Grandfather). Alonzo married Louisa C. Stevenson who gave him a son Charles Henry. He then remarried Annie Dawson who gave him Melissa Louisa - Bessie May - Irene Grace - and Bruce Ray (my father).

What relationship are you to John and Mary??

I would definately be interested in what informatiom you have on the Bedal's. I have nothing on them.

I am researching my ancestors and have come to a dead in as far as where they came to North America from. We are of course talking about Thomas Bowerman (Bourman) who apparently came from England to Plymouth, Mass. around 1633 and subsequently married Hannah Annable. Any help as to where in England he came from and name(s) of his family would be of great help.

I think I have managed to trace my ancestors from Mass.,USA to Ontario ,Canada at the present date (Thomas-Thomas II-Thomas III-Ichabod-David-John-Elias-Alonzo-Bruce Ray- and me - Ronald Bruce Wayne). If I can provide you with any information along this line of BOWERMANs let me know.

Also, did you ever get the Bowerman Newsletter going that you talked about back in July 2000? As you can see, I just started doing some research again and was going thru the Bulletin Board (even the old entries).

My thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

The book was a limited production. It was put together by a woman here in Harrisburg, PA. over several years. She is now in her 80's. Several years ago the local library would lend it out for two weeks, that is when I started my work. Now the library will not lend it out. After meeting with the author, Mrs. Mary DiNinni, she was glad to hear that some one had taken interest in her work. She then sold me the last book she had. When I get the book back, I will send you the information it to see if you can find a book locally.

My research has been specific to the decendants of the Bowerman's starting with a William Bowerman down thru my grandchildren. If you wish, I can email you several pieces of what I have put together. I am including pictures and information about people not just names, birth and death information. Again, my research had been only about Bowerman's that live in Pennsylvania. I can meet with most of them as most have not moved out of state.

I have a book that starts there and goes down through hundreds of families/people to me, Jeff Sener. I am confident through my research to a William Bowerman my ggg-grandfather. Before that there is a Johannes (John) Bowerman, buried at the Bowerman St. Paul Lutheran and Reformed Church in Enterline, PA.

What else might you have?

I too cannot find much on my grandmother, Aimie Elizabeth Bowerman....did find her marriage certificate to my grandfather...George Washington Swift...and her name was signed as Bowman????? /trying to find her on the Indian Census records in Oklahoma and Arkansas where she was born.

Does this Frank have two daughters, Helen Adelia and Hazel Mae? My cousin has a Christmas postcard from a Mr and Mrs. Frank Bowerman and daughters Hazel Mae and Helen Adelia. We are trying to find the connection of Betsey Bowerman Bligh to this Frank. The picture was taken in Ypsilanti, MI.

I don't know, Materface seems quite unusual, and not bad to have kept the secret for that long..

On my side we only discovered that my grandfather, John Bowerman, had been married before and the divorced after he died. Obviously subterfuge is a strong trait in the Bowermen...!

Sadly, my John Bowerman turns out to have been born John Philip Materface, illegitimate, amd took his step-father's name of Bowerman. So my entire family have lived under an assumed name for the last one hundred and fifty years. I think Bowerman was a definite improvement over Materface!

I am doing some research for a lady in Canada. She is looking for data on a Israel J. Bowerman. He was born in Canada, circa 1834. Both his parents were born in Canada as well. I do not have their names though, I suspect that his father may have also been Israel.

I found Israel in the 1880 US federal census for Seymour, Outagamie, Wisconsin. He is at this time 46 yrs. old. Is a jeweler and gem smith. His wife is Emma J. and they have listed; Son, George F. 21 yrs. ~ Son, Joseph R.- 17 yrs. ~ Son, Alfred M. 12 yrs. ~ Daughter, Caroline V. 10 yrs. ~ Son, William W. 7 yrs. ~ Son, Sylvester U. 5 yrs. ~ S.Son, Henry VANALSTINE 10 yrs. b. WI. ~ S.Daughter, Amanda L. VANALSTINE, 9 yrs. b. WI

Israel is then found in Eagle River, Vilas Co. Wisconsin, in the 1900 census with a different wife, by then.

Might this be one in the same BOWERNAM?

This Israel is probably the one whose parentage comes down from Thomas Bowerman (abt 1625-1679). His parenta are Ichabod Bowerman (1721-1790)and Jane Richmond (1735-1791)who had 14 children. Have a look at the Bowerman website

I have a few bits and pieces for you, mostly culled from http://www.cullyonline.co.uk/history.asp. There was a James Bowerman (b1794) who ran The White Hart Pub on Fore Street. He is mentioned in the account of the 1839 Great Fire of Collumpton, which destroyed a large part of the town. This available from the above website. James died before 1841, but the following Bowermans are recorded in Collumpton in the 1841 census
Eliza Bowerman b abt 1825
Frank Bowerman abt 1840
Harriett Bowerman abt 1824
John Bowerman abt 1834
Mary Bowerman abt 1838
Sarah Bowerman abt 1822
William Bowerman abt 1836.
I also attach some photos of Fore Street and some images of the relevant sections of the 1830s Pigot's Directory.

The area immediately around (Hemyock, Culmstock, Clayhidon, West Buckland, Uffculm) is full of Bowermans- all related I think to the Bowermans who owned the Manor House of Culme Davy (now White Hall Farm), Hemyock for 400 years, before selling it in the early part of 18th century. The Book of Hemyock: Heart of the Blackdowns by Brian Clist and Chris Dracott Halsgrove Press (2001)lists many Bowermans of Hemyock. The index is available at http://genuki.cs.ncl.ac.uk/DEV/Hemyock/HemyockBook.html.

To go even further back, I believe there is a connection to Lord Thomas Bowerman, who acquired Brooke Manor of the Isle of Wight, in 1450.

Isreal Judea Bowerman's parent's names were Joseph F. Bowerman and Abigail Louisa Davis. Joseph's parents were Isreal Judah Bowerman and Anne Terwilliger. Isreal Judah's parents were Ichabod Bowerman and Jane Richmond.

Isreal Judea's first wife's name was Mary Foster (I have ve
ry little info on her), second wife was Emma J. VanAlstine, third wife was Martha A. ???. As far as I know, all Isreal's children's mother was Mary. I am descended from Sylvester U. Bowerman, Isreal's youngest. In some records he is referred to as "Bert". He was my great grandfather.

I have recently discovered there are Bowermans in both grandparents sides of family. Granddad William (B1883/4)and grandma Evelyn Brooklyn(B 1886) both have Bowerman grandparents.

Hi, my Grandfather is a John Francis Bowerman from Collumpton in Devon, who has family links with London. A census shows a London based niece staying with them. Any clues you can give would be gratefully received.

Good morning. My name is Carm Foster (male). My attachment to this Bowerman line is through Ichabod Bowerman and Jane Richmond. They had a son by the name of Jonathan Bowerman who married a Sarah Vincent. They had a daughter by the name of Eleanor who married Samuel Foster my 2nd. Gt. Grandfather. I do have a lot of information from the Bowerman Family line with some obtained from doing transcription work of the Genealogy of Dr. Albert C. Bowerman. Israel J. Bowerman according to my Family History program would be my 2nd. Cousin 3X removed. Although I do have some information on the Family of Joseph Bowerman and Abigail Davis, I don't have very much on the Family of Israel J. Bowerman and his wives, Mary Foster, Emma J and Martha A. nor very much on their children. This Family appears to have moved to the US. very early. My grandfather was one of the Bowermans back in 1800's to come to the island. He was from Duneiden On. This place was, apparently, named Bowerman Holler. My great grandfathers name was Richard, and he named my grandfather, William or Bill. They lived at a farm called Happy Acres about 13 miles from South Baymouth. I am sure they were related

My grandfather is John Francis Bowerman, born in Collumpton in 1894. His father, John, was a draper with a business at Fore Street in Collumpton, his mother was Florence Katherine Wall. His Grandfather was born in Brentford, Middlesex c 1833, and his father was also called John. (They were not very imaginitive with the family names from the look of things!)

There is some link with the Plymouth Brethren. My Grandfather however joined up in WW1, he was posted to York at some stage where he got married and then divorced. He was then posted out to Burma. I have a lot of information from this period.

I would really like to find out info from Collumpton though, so any help you can give would be gratefully received!!

I am a descendantof David Bowerman(arrived aust.1820 on Mangles)and his wife Ellen Timson aka McNulty married in newcastle 1832.My line comes through their eldest daughter Mary making them my great great great grandparents.I cannot answer your question regarging his father as i know little of his life prior to transportation.Can you fill in any blanks for me regarding his life in Australia and i will let you know any details i have,Susan Green

Hi Susan, David was assigned to Mary (widow of his Uncle George Bowerman-executed in Sydney with his two brothers in 1820)on the farm at Pennant Hills 22.08.1822 and stayed there until he got his TOL in 1825, but was gone by the time of the 1828 Census. He was living at Seaham on John Wightson's "Brandon" estate when he married in 1832; moved to Dempsey Island in 1837 and was on Ash Island when he died in 1839. I have some info on Ellen too, but no photo of Mary (I have one of Charlotte) I live at Belmont North Ray

I am looking for any information on Charles Bowerman. He married Sarah Bickmore/Ward on 11 Feb 1760 in Southminster, Essex, England. I understand they had 10 children, one of which is Hannah Bowerman b 7 Dec 1781, Southminster, Essex; d 4 Jan 1853, Purleigh, Essex. She married Thomas Croxon in 1804, Southminster, Essex.
