Bowers or Bower--William, Marshal, Marion--TN, AL, and TX

My great grandfather was Samuel M. Bower. He was born in Texas (possibly Titus County) between 1854 and 1856. His parents were Marshal and Mary H. Bower and they came to Texas from Alabama. I found them in Jackson County Alabama on the 1850 census which shows Marshal was born in Tennessee. Marshal and Mary have a son, William D. Bower, listed here as well. I believe Marshal’s father may have been William Bower since he is listed just above Marshal’s family on this same census. It shows William and Jane Bower with their family. I believe Jane was Jane Moon Maples because two children listed have the Maples name. William and Jane both show to have been born in Tennessee. I’ve found land records for William and his son, Marion, from Jackson County Alabama. I found a death record for Marion F Bowers from Paint Rock in Jackson Co. This shows his father was Billie Bowers. I've found Marshal and his family in Titus County Texas during 1870 and in Tarrant County Texas by 1880. Does anyone know this family or their history? I would appreciate any information. You can contact me here or at rebelcharliej@yahoo.com

Alfred, Blanche, Naomi, Flora, Beatrice, Stella, Marie, Iva Bowers in Indiana

Looking for info about my maternal grandfather's side (Alfred Chester Bowers, b. 1907, d. 1977). He had seven sisters - Blanche, Naomi, Flora, Beatrice, Stella, Marie, and Iva. Blanche lived in California, and the rest probably stayed in central Indiana or the Midwest. Their parents were Charles and Eva Marie. Charles died approximately 1916.

Alfred also had a half-brother -- I believe his name was Davey, married to Clara, and they owned a hog farm in north central Indiana. Not sure about their last name. I attended a great family reunion at that farm in the mid-80's.

This has been tough to research since Alfred was the only one to carry the family name (which ended with his death). Thanks in advance for any help.
Edward or Sabina Bowers

I am searching for info on my GGgrandmother Sabina Bowers Beach, born in Maryland in 1823. She moved to Flint, Michigan at some point. She was married to Seth Beach. Both of them had portraits painted by Edward Bowers. These hang in the Maryland Historical Museum. I do not know how Edward was related, but I assume it might have been her brother as I know his dates are 1822-1870. Also, Seth and Sabina's son was named John Edward (1850-1920) Contact me directly at momsmead@gmail.com. Thanks for the help.
Carol

Lou Bowers arrested on charge of disposing of mortgaged propery

Appears in "The Wapanucka Press" 14 July 1904, Wapanucka, Johnston County, Indian Territory, now Oklahoma

NEGRO AND WOMAN PULLED

Deputy Criswell arrested Lou Bowers, a white woman, and Dixie Williams, colored, last week charged with disposing of mortgaged property. It seems from the evidence produced at the preliminary trial that the woman is the real offender and that instead of having disposed of mortgaged property she sold property of Williams’ without his consent. The horses, alleged to have been sold without the consent of the mortgagee belonged to the negro. He loaned them to the woman and she drove them off and sold them near Duncan. They were both placed under bond for appearance at the October term of district court.
John R. Bowers obit, born July 25, 1940, at Barbours Creek, Craig County, Va. He was the fourth of seven children born to John He

John R. Bowers died unexpectedly on Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2008.

He was born July 25, 1940, at Barbours Creek, Craig County, Va. He was the fourth of seven children born to John Herman Bowers and Thelma Raeburn Helms Bowers.

John began his education in a two-room grade school in Virginia. In 1949, the family moved from Craig County, Virginia to Indiana, first living in the Laurel area and then moving to Fairfield, Ind., where they remained until Brookville Dam went under construction. John completed his elementary education in the three-room grade school in Fairfield and then attended Brookville High School, graduating in 1958. Following high school graduation, he enlisted in the Air Force and was stationed in Reykjavik, Iceland and Marquette, Mich., serving for four years.

As soon as he was able to help, John joined his father and older brothers in his father's logging business. It was John who followed in his father's footsteps and made working in timber his lifelong occupation. He was a timber buyer for Pierson-Hollowell Lumber Co. in Lawrenceburg, Ind., before starting his own logging business and relocating to Illinois in 1964. John branched out into the manufacture of veneer in 1982, forming Hoosier Veneer Corp. based in Trafalgar, Ind., and in partnership in 1983 to begin Indiana Architectural Plywood, also based in Trafalgar, Ind. John eased into semi-retirement in 1991, selling his interest in Hoosier Veneer Corp. and later Indiana Architectural Plywood. He was widely known and respected for his skill as a timber buyer and businessman.

While stationed in Marquette, Mich., John played snowshoe softball. After relocating to Illinois, he began playing fast-pitch softball, where he excelled as a pitcher, winning several "Most Valuable Player" awards. John was an avid golfer until shoulder surgery sidelined him.

In 1972, John began to purchase farmland on the outskirts of Liberty. He relocated from Illinois to the Liberty area in 1974 and found enjoyment in the management of his farmland.

John attended Ravina Park Baptist Church in Richmond, Ind., where he was a well-loved member of the congregation.

John was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Dale; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, James Otis and Ruby Johnson; and a sister-in-law, Marlene Bowers.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Bowers; his daughters, Suzie Marcum and her husband, Brent of Liberty and Bonnie Bowers of Danville, Ky.; grandchildren, Brandon Rogers of Liberty, Kimberly Rogers of Seattle, Wash., Mari Kyla Schneiders of Danville, Ky., Brianna Rogers, Logan Marcum, Levi Marcum, and Elijah Marcum all of Liberty; and a great-grandson, Robert Brian Rogers, also of Liberty; brothers, Melvin Bowers of Harrison, Ind., Roy Bowers and Robert (Sandy) Bowers of Liberty, Ind.; sisters, Gaynelle (Sebert) Fridley of Hamilton, Ohio, and Linda Taylor (Dave Holliday) of Liberty; many nieces, nephews and friends.

Arrangements are through Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Fosdick Chapel in Liberty. A public visitation will be held Sunday, Feb. 17 from 2-6 p.m. with funeral services on Monday, Feb. 18 at 1 p.m. Burial will be at Sims Cemetery in New Fairfield, Ind. Memorial contributions may be made to the Granny Bowers Memorial Fund at Mainsource Bank in Liberty. For additional information and to sign the online guest book, visit

Does any one have any info on a William Bowers b. abt. 1776 and living in Brown County, Ohio in the early 1800's? My ancestor, Jane Bowers, b. 1813, Ohio, married Andrew Jackson Chain/Chane in Brown County in 1841. Jane had a brother, William b. Ohio in 1816. The older William lived in an Union Township with Killpatricks, Carrs, Cartys and Cambells. I think these Bowers might have been Scottish!

I have info on some of the juab county Bowers
line back to:

James Bowers 1811-1833
of Dudley, Wrcstr, England
sp - Marie Lay
of ?

son of:
Joseph Sansom Bowers 1754-1823
of Dudley, Staffordshire, England
sp - Isabella Haldren or Aldren 1783-1852?
of Dudley, Wrcstr, England

son of:
Thomas Bowers abt 1728-?
of Dudley, Wrcstr, England
sp - Sarah Sansom abt 1732-?
of Dudley, Wrcstr, England

I so far haven't found anything more about
Thomas and Sarah or anyone earlier than that.

I also found reference to the first Bowers on
record being in Peebleshire Scotland and also
Bowers being present at the Battle of Dunbar
Castle. I would like to connect these lines
together if possible and any help would be
appreciated.

I've also heard that Stewart (my middle name)
is a family name but have no data to back
that up.

Other conjectures are that Bowers is a Sept
of the MacGregor clan and when that clan was
outlawed, some MacGregors took the Bowers
name to avoid persecution/prosecution. But
again I have no supporting data.

TIA,
David S. Bowers

I have just found a entry in the 1881 census that might relate to me. I have a Henry Bowers living at 1 Harmony Square, Ipswich St Margaret. He is aged 38 and born in Monks Eleigh Suffolk. His wife and Daughter are both called Emma and were both born in Brightlingsea, Essex. in 1881 his daughter is 16 and his wife is 38. He is only my second BOWERS to have escaped from Suffolk as all the rest seemed to have worked on the land until their deaths. Is anyone studying the Brightlingsea area and come across a marriage for the above. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Henry was the illegitimate son of a Eliza Bowers so father is unknown.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Trev

Benjamin Allen Bowers - North Carolina, Georgia, Alabama

My grandfather is Hayward Bowers of Brannen/Coffee County, Alabama. I have traced the Bowers line to my great-great-great-great-great grandfather who was born in North Carolina --- I think Pitt County. The line goes like this:

Hayward Bowers is the son of James M. Bowers

James M. Bowers is the son of Newton "Virgil" Bowers and Jane Hamilton

Newton "Virgil" Bowers (born 1836) is the son of Benjamin Allen Bowers III

B A Bowers III (born around 1816) who married Sara Brown is the son of Benjamin Allen Bowers Jr

BA Bowers Jr (born around 1778) who I THINK married someone named Nancy is the son of Benjamin Allen Bowers Sr.

This is where I'm stuck. My family is from mainly Coffee County, Alabama, but so far I've traced it to Pitt County, NC which I think is the Greenville area? Any information you all have will be great. You can email me at rbowers35@yahoo.com

Searching for relatives of May Bowers Schneider - St. Louis, MO

Are you related to May Bowers Schneider? She is the daughter of Frederick (1976) and Mary Bowers. They also had children named Esther, Nora, Frederick Jr, and Edward. May 1904-1992 is buried in Memorial Park Cemetery with her husband Carl Schneider and sister Esther Bowers Peterson.

I am related to Carl Schneider 1903-1965. He was the son of Andrew and Bertha Schneider and had two sisters Bertha Schmidt and Ida McDonnell. None of these Schneider siblings had children so there are no descendants. I am searching for pictures of this Schneider family and am hoping that May(Bowers)Schneider relatives have them now.

Thank you for any help or suggestions.

Kathy
