You are one of the few people we have still remaining on the Greenham Common High School Alumni Network lost list for the Class of 1989.
I am Rachel Marie Bowery, a direct descendant of Francis Bowery. I have the family tree item and newspaper article regarding the discovery of my Great Grandfathers grave, but this was the last info provided to me. I am really wanting to trace the Bowery family back to its immigration to this country and further if possible. Any information you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Would like to know if anyone is interested in participating in a Bowery Bowrey Bowry Berry DNA project to help uncover our ancestors. To my knowledge, my father, Robert Wright Bowery, is the only person who has gotten his DNA analyzed to date. Especially interested in identifying males with the above surnames who wish to participate from various parts of UK, US or Canada. My father represents those who descend from Francis Bowery of TN so if you also descend from this line, you don't need to contact me. You are already covered with my Dad's DNA. If your earliest ancestor came from any place other than TN, please respond if you are interested in participating. It involves the payment of the DNA test and using a swab inside your mouth. Thanks!

Margaret Dulaney b. 1753 is not the one. She married a Trimble so was listed as Margaret Trimble in her father's will dated 1803. If she was Margaret Trimble that date, she would not be Margaret Bowery who was a widow by that date. I am exploring another Margaret Dulaney whose parents were William Dulaney b. 1725 married Mary Roberts b. 1725 d. 1799. Trying the process or elimination!! Rose

Yes, we have volumes of material. Robert, my husband, is descended as follows: Robert W. Bowery, (my husband), son of James Lee Bowery, son of Wesley Martin Bowery, son of Andrew Thomas Bowery and Adaline Harbour. Andrew Thomas Bowery was the son of John and Elizabeth Bowery. John was the son of Francis and Margaret Bowery.

Andrew Thomas and Adaline Harbour Bowery had twelve children as follows:

1. John Bowery married Martha Jane Childress
2.Moses Bowery disappeared during the Civil War (Bible record)
3. Francis Marion Bowery married Sarah Barnes
4. Elizabeth Bowery
5. William Dulaney Bowery married Permelia Jane Hilton
6. Andrew Thomas Bowery married Sarah E. Ford
7. Adaline Nancy Jane Bowery
8.James Nat Bowery married Mary Etta Hartness
9. Malinda A. Bowery
10. Elizabeth Alice Bowery
11. Mary Emaline Bowery married James L. Brown, Dr.
12. Wesley Martin Bowery married Sarah Catherine Snodgrass.

We visited an elderly lady in Kingville, TX who was the wife of one of these brothers--I believe a third wife. I do not remember which one. When I find the paper on which I wrote the information, I will post it. I also have the dates of births, deaths, marriages, etc. for these children.
Robert Bowery, my husband, is decended from Andrew Bowery through his grandfather, Wesley Martin Bowery, the youngest son of Andrew. The oldest son, John, came to Texas before Andrew was born. He was 25 years older than Wesley Martin. I believe that is correct. John had descendants here in Texas. We met Joe Bowery and his family when they lived west and a little north of McAllen. He was a very friendly man and had a child five years old by his third wife. He also had two beautiful teen age daughters living in his home at the time. They were showing livestock at the show in Mercedes. The oldest of the two teen age daughters was planning to become a vet and was going, I believe, to Houston for her education. We also met an older son, a teacher, who lived in Houston. I believe Joe had a sister living in LaFeria, TX. We visited her there. Joe also drove us over to Kingsville where we met an elderly lady who was a wife of an earlier generation Bowery. Other descedants of John lived in Denton, TX. We also visited them there. We have attempted to see Joe during the past few years but were unable to make connections. I believe he moved to Raymondville, we were told. Let us know if any of this info helps you to connect. We would love to see any of them again. Rose

This information may another piece to the puzzle of Margaret's surname. I can see Frances Bowery becoming acquainted with Margaret when the two families were preparing to move or prior to the move, Francis and Margaret marrying and all going to Tennessee together. Females identities are very difficult to learn, so I am certainly putting this information into my files. Thanks so much for this input. Rose

I've been wondering if the Dulaney (Delaney) branch of my great grandmother's (Louisiana Elizabeth Hunt Bowery) family could be Margaret's family. What I have is that John Dulaney and his wife Frances Stanton had a daughter named Margaret born Apr 28, 1753. I have no other information on her.

Her parents were both born in Virginia and died in Madison County, Virginia in 1803 and 1804 respectively.

Anyway - Margaret's relationship to me is my 5th great grandaunt.

Her sister Elizabeth (my 4th great grandmother) moved to Sullivan County with her husband John Pemberton. They moved to Sullivan County, NC (now TN) in the late 1770's or at least by 1781. (In 1790 NC ceded the western part to the US and Sullivan County became part of "The Territory South of the Ohio River" and in 1796 Tennesee became a state).

Maybe this is the connection. I have absolutely no idea. This Margaret is the right age and since both families came from Virginia and her sister Elizabeth and John Pemberton arrived in Sullivan County somewhere around the time that John Bowery was born ????

Linda

Francis Bower's son, John (and wife Elizabeth), had a son Andrew Thomas Bowery, my husband's ancestor. Andrew Thomas had a son named William Delaney Bowery, the only son that we were unable to find a known grand parent after whom he was named. The only grandparent whose surname we did not yet know was Margaret's, the wife of Francis Bowery. We believe William Delaney Bowery was named after Margaret's father. Therefore her surname should be Delaney. There is a William Delaney who had a daughter, Margaret. I do not have the data in front of me right now as it is 2:30 a.m. in the night. Please respond and tell me what you think of this theory.

I'm a decedent of the Texas Bowerys. My father Curtis, also as decendent of Andrew was the last male of our direct line (he passed away two weeks ago). I've been trying to put together our family tree but nobody in recent generations has been interested, or lived long. He was 52, his mother was 53 when she passed and his father died before I was born. The records I have stop with Francis and if you have any information that could help me further it I'd appreciate it.

Christa Bowery SparklerGrrl@hotmail.com

I am writing for my husband, Robert Wright Bowery, a descendant of Andrew Thomas Bowery, son of John Bowery, son of Francis Bowery. Bob, as he is called, said he met a Bowery service man in England during WWII. They had a conversation about Tennessee relatives both had. Where was the soldier Bowery stationed? Perhaps he is the one Bob talked to. Bob's grandfather was the youngest child of Andrew Thomas Bowery. The oldest son, John, went to Texas where we met many of his descendants, some in Denton, Tx and Joe Bowery and family in the Rio Grande Valley. Joe lived west of McAllen, TX at the time we visited with him and his family. Joe had a son in Houston, TX who was a teacher in some college or university. A daughter was planning to become a vetrinarian. She married and shortly after her husband was killed in an accident. Wesley Martin Bowery's family and descendants are mainly in Iowa. This lets you know there are connections of most Bowery's to the TN Bowerys. Rose

Thank you for the reply regarding my search for my English ancesters. There are many descendants of Francis Bowery, d. 1795, or about, in eastern Tennessee at Cavitt's Fort. The fort was attacked by some Cherokee indians who had been having difficulty with the settlers at the time he settled there. I will keep your information in my files and hope we can get a connection to some of their earlier ancesters as well. Thanks again for your reply. Robert Bowery

Based on the informatartion Margaret provided about Jessie Leola Bowery being her mother then the following would be the information that traces your family back to eastern Tennessee.

You GGGG granparents - John Bowery was born in Virginia and he married Elizabeth Barnhart who was born Greene Co. TN
They had 8 children - one of which was your GGG grandfather - Andrew Thomas Bowery - born in Sullivan Co on Jan 30 1824 and he married Adeline Harbour who was also born in Sullivan Co, TN on Apr 29, 1826.
And they had 12 children. Andrew Thomas Bowery Jr was next in your line - born Feb 26, 1854. He married Sarah E Ford, born Dec 3 1854. Also from Sullivan Co.
They had 8 children. Their last child - your great grandfather - was John Finley Bowery who was born May 11 1890 in Garland TX. He married Sarah Alice Rookstool who was born on Apr 2, 1893 in Clinton, MO. They had 8 children
Charles Edward
Opal Geraldine
Freda May
Jessie Leola
Lois Elizabeth
Your grandfather - Jack (I have him listed as Jackie Junior)
Carl Andrew
Betty Jean

I don't have any information beyond the fact that your grandfather married Eleanor Sara Francis in 1948.
I hope this helps. If you want more information - let me know. Most of my information came from Mary Bowery Carter who still lives in Sullivan County, TN. I've never been to Sullivan County. I started studying our family genology about 20 years ago after I moved from Virgina to Washington State.

Conrad Russell Bowery Sr. was a brother to Andrew Thomas Bowery Sr who is my gg grandfather.
I have Sarah Shipley's birth to be closer to 1811. I probably took this from census records, so can not be more precise.

From my investigations the Bowery name links several times with Shipley, Barnhart, Ford, and Harbour. I have not encountered the Holt name with the Bowery's. I do have Holt's in an entirely different line, interesting if it were to turn out that my father's grandmother were related to my mother's grandfather. WOW. Maggie
