If you are still interested in this I have an account by Mary T, William Wilsons daughter, that says her father lived in Indiana and worked as a teacher until he was about 20 years old. At that time his father got a land grant in Illinois (I think in Clay County, near Flora) and William W. moved with several other members of the family at that time. His older sister Rebecca was already living in the area.

Mary was my grandfathers aunt.
