Brooks Anderson and Margaret Louise Bowling ("Booling")

Just a note.

I've seen on the web where Brooks Anderson, brother of my great-great-grandmother, Matilda "Tillie" Anderson, was married to Margaret Louise Bowling.

I've been unable to make contact with the different people who've posted that.

Soooo...I recently came upon the marriage record. Only it lists her at Margaret (looks almost like Marget) Boolling. I wonder whether that wasn't an Irish (or some other British) pronunciation of Bowling that led to that spelling.

Brooks Anderson To Margaret Boolling

State of Missouri, county of Ste Genevieve M

This is to certify that on the 23 day of December A.D. 1877, Mr. Brooks Anderson and Miss Margaret (looks like “Marget”) Boolling were by me united in marriage according to the laws of God and of the State of Missouri at St. Genevieve County, Missouri.
James Counts
Ministery [sic] of the gospel

As a side note, Brooks Anderson is listed in the 1880 census as having “dropsy.” Per a land patent entry, “Margaret A. Anderson” was already widowed by “Brooks N. Anderson” by 15 February 1884. It is said Margaret later remarried. Brooks and Margaret had a child named Martha C. Anderson.

His mother Tillie married four times, believe it or not: to Charles Quinlin (probably Quinlan); Joseph Alonzo Shoults; Pierre "Pete" Louis Clerc; and Joseph J. Hamshire.

Tillie and Joe had a son they named Steven Anderson Shoults and another they named Calvin Brooks Shoults.

Anyway, just wanted to share this tidbit of news.

I, too am looking for information on Samuel (Samual) Bowling (Bolling). The 1860 Census for Bowdon, Carroll County, Georgia lists Martin Bowling, born circa 1830 in Tennessee, married to a Kezziah, born circa 1828 in North Carolina. Martin Bowling is shown living next door to Natt Bowling. Samuel Bowling had sons Nathaniel and Martin and also lived in Carroll County, Georgia. I, too, would like to understand the connection to Samuel's parents, as Samuel is generally considered a dead-end (DNA Group 6Z, Fh624). Any new light would be greatly appreciated. I can be contacted at larry.m.bowling@gmail.com.

Mike

Re: Samuel Bowling b.1778

I too am checking on the history of Samuel Bowling, b. 1778 to the parents of Samuel Bowling, Sr. and his wife Abigail Choice, dau of Tully Choice. In an attempt to prove that Samuel Bolling was a Rev. Soldier we find records in the Pittsylvania Co VA area that show he lived there as early as 1771 when his future father in law, Tully Choice granted him 207 acres on Snow Creek, and the Deed records support the theory that he lived there between 1771-1780, during which time his son, Samuel Bolling, Jr. was born. By the time they moved to Laurens Co., SC after 1780, Pittsylvania Co had land carved from it to form Henry Co. So Samuel Bolling Jr. was born in the Snow Creek area of either Pittsylvania or Henry Co. Samuel Bolling, Sr. served in the war as a young soldier in that area. After moving to SC some of the children moved on to TN, AL, and GA. We would like to find info on the wife of Samuel Bolling, Jr, whose name was Elizabeth and when did she die? A family reunion reference shows that Samuel Bolling, Jr. visited some of his sons before they joined the Civil War and while on is visit died in GA in Carroll Co. Did the wife, die earlier in TN and where is she buried. Thanks. Valerie

I am the daughter of Samuel Bowling, who was the son of W.P. and Hattie Walters Bowling Therefore: Hattie Walters Bowling was my Grandmother. She is not the daughter of Surviller Walters. Grandma Hattie's mother was Nancy Rowe. Hattie was the product from the marriage between John J. Walters and Nancy Rowe.
I'm afraid your memory is incorrect regarding the hearing impairment of my family. I have no brothers with a hearing disability, however: Dad had did two brothers who were deaf mute. Both were very afflulent in sign age. Grandpa Bowling and also my Dad sent both my uncles to a school for the Deaf.
Arnold Bowling was Dad's nephew: my cousin. He was the son of Dad's Brother Elijha (aka; lidge)and Louise Marcum. Martha McDaniel nor William McKinley Walters was not his parents. Arnold has passed, I believe it was in 1991 in Ohio. I am sure about the place of death. Think I recall that. Lidge and Louise had several children and yes they did live in Letcher co.
Have been unable to get any info regarding lydia. do not know the maiden name.
thanks

Re: P. W. Bowling md. Sally Huges

Hi, I am the grand daughter of P.W. Bowling. His name was changed to W.P.Bowling. William Pierson Bowling was also known as Pierce. His name was changed because of the initials PW being confused with POW.
William Pierce Bowling and Sally Hughes married in Va. where they both were born, they had 5 children.
Curtis, Bill, Walter, Elijha, Molly.
Curtis, died young but I can't remember what dad said he died from and I can't find records of him.
Bill was killed by the police when he was just a very young man, because he took a bicycle without permission. He actually died not far from the house that papa lived in at blackey.
Aunt Mollie was one of the prettiest older women that I have ever seen. So, classy. She married Tanzy Jent and had several children, she had, I think 3 of her children died while she lived in Perry and Letcher co. They are buried in Letcher co at the Jent mt. Cemetary: I may have Pictures of the graves, If you would like copies. she moved to Ind. after Grandpa William P. Bowling, her father showed his stuborn side regarding religion.
Uncle Walter married Phoebe and had I believe 3 boys: I think he died in the 70's. have to check my records to be sure.
Elijah was the 2nd. of three elijaha's in the family. He was known as Lidge. he had a fairly large family.
Grandpa had a brother named Andrew Jackson Bowling who lived in Perry co. died in the 50's. He had other brothers and sisters but I have been unable to find documentation regarding them. I do remember hearing Dad speak of them. Incase you are wondering who dad is: He is the half brother of the ones I mentioned. his mother was Hattie Walters. grandpa Bowling was married four times.
Check out my family tree for more info on the family. Nice to hear from some of the distant family
CS Bowling Rice

Bowling, Samuel Bowling 1921(my dad). I have tracked GG Granpa Samuel Bowling into Magoffin co. Ky, then into Bath co. and Menifee co. Ky At one time, A someone had said that he was buried in Menifee co. Ky. Do you have knowledge of that? Do you have info regarding Lydia A.
Any iformation would be appreciated
Thank you
I am seeking information on James Bowling. His parents were James Bowling and Mary Murphy and he was born in Chicago, according to his marriage record. He was born on September 2, 1879 according to his WWI papers. He was in the Canadian military in WWI, but he served in the US military prior to moving to Canada. I was told that he lived in Kentucky for a while before moving to New Brunswick, Canada. He married Annie Lumsden in 1908 in New Brunswick. I would appreciate any more information that anyone has on this person. I couldn't find him in the US census records in 1880 or in 1900.

LOOKING FOR BOWLING FAMILY

My grand father was Arthur Albert Smith, born 1865 in Franklin, Indiana and died in 1945 in Waukomis, OKLA. He rode in the famous September 1893 Oklahoma/Cherokee Land Rush and settled a property in what was then County "O" which became Garfield County. ANY PHOTOS or info of him would be greatly appreciated.
Arthur A. Smith 1st married an ELLEN "Nellie" Barbara Bowling, born June 19, 1867 in Cambridge, Henry County, ILL
to Samuel Green Bowling and Lydia Eright (sometimes spelled E. Bright). The Bowlings moved to Illinois from Indiana between 1850 and 1860. ELLEN was married for 14 years to a JONATHAN SPACE (Dec 24, 1884-Nov.29, 1899)& had 3 children,
sons Clarence Clemont and Frank Lester and daughter Lucy May. ELLEN divorced Jonathan in 1899 and moved her two sons to Red Rock, Noble County, OKLA where she met and married ARTHUR ALBERT SMITH Feb 7, 1901 in Waukomis, Garfield County, OKLA and they had twi daughters, Nola Ethyl or Ethel
and Esther Ellen. ELLEN died of paralysis and a stroke just after the birth of Esther Nov 19, 1909 in an Enid,Garfield County, OKLA or perhaps at home on the farm in Waukomis.
There is supposed to be an annual (July 4th) Family Reunion held of families that include the Space's Ools and two unknown other family surnames. Does anyone have a photo of Ellen at any time of her life? I will be gllad to share what info I have on her, including name of her daughter Lucy May, who went to live with an unknown Aunt in Nebraska after her mom and sons moved to Oklahoma. Lucy May also married a HARVEY CHRISTIAN and had a daughter and died April 4, 1921 in Nebraska.
