I'm pretty certain this John Bowman's parents were Jacob and Nancy Bowman who moved from Augusta County, Virginia to Boone and Montgomery Counties in Indiana around 1832 together with most of their children including your ancestor John Bowman - see http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&d...

Leonard C Bowman family

I am looking for any information on the Leonard C. Bowman family from Syracuse, NY. Sons names are Leonard, Ronald and Richard. My aunt was their governess and she would
like to know about them. She took care of them back in the 1930's or 1940's. Her name was Katherine Gleason. Any help would be appreciated.

Floyd Bowman 1907 - 1985

My grandfather was Floyd Bowman born 19 April 1907 in New York; possibly Hector, NY.

His father was Charles H Bowman born abt 1861 and his mother was Emma Rowena Towner born abt 1863. They were married in 1882.

Charles and Emma had the following children (gotten from a census; there may be more--not sure):
Harley J   born abt 1884>>>I found a 1920 census that has a Harley J Bowman living in Madison, NY;
Oneida Ward 1; District 122. Age 35. Wife Mary A-age 37; Son Albert H-age 6; Son Arville R-
Age 3/12; Mother Emma-age 56. ***I also found a 1920 census with Charles H Bowman living
In Bradford, PA; Athens Ward 3; District 9. Age 58. Wife Emma-age 56; Son Floyd-age 12.

Hattie born abt 1895>>>My aunt believes she was married to ????? Stranger. In the Bradford, PA
Census mentioned above, living two houses down from Charles is:  William Stranger-age 28;
Wife Hattie-age 25; Daughter Dorothy-age 3/12.

Frank born abt 1897

Fred born abt 1899>>>I have heard stories of Fred being married three times and all three wives
Named Pauline. My aunt remembers Fred living in Syracuse, NY and Elmira, NY.

Floyd born 1907>>>He married Charlotte Ann Reynolds (my grandmother; daughter of Alvy
Reynolds and Jessie Mariah Wright) in Aug 1932. Their children are:
Geraldine May born 12 Sept 1931; died Aug 2009 Nichols, NY. She was not Floyd’s.
Rowena Charlotte born 11 May 1933; died 2007.
Charles Floyd born 18 May 1934/5; died Aug 1934/5 age 2m 26d.
Wayne Eugene born 12 Jul 1937.
George Archie born 22 Nov 1938.
Marjorie Ann born 9 Jul 1943.
Walter Robert “Butch” born 23 Feb 1946.
Mary Dorothea born 19 Feb 1949. (My mother.)

My aunt remembers going to visit her Grandma Bowman’s grave in a cemetery just outside Smithboro.
She wasn’t sure of the name, but said it could possibly have been Smithboro Cemetery.

My grandfather told stories to his children about his step-mother. Name is unknown; could it be that
Charles and Emma Towner were divorced and he re-married to another Emma? That would explain
Why two Emmas show up in the 1920 censuses.

My aunt remembers an Aunt Nelle and an Aunt Belle who she recalls being my grandfather’s half- or
Step-sisters. She also remembers my grandfather having siblings named Leon and 2 Rays. She
Remembes my grandfather talking about his nephew Lloyd whose mother was a Blackfoot Indian.

If anyone has any information about my great-aunts and uncles, and/or my great-grandfather and his ancestors, I would be very very grateful. I have seemed to have hit a brick wall when it comes to the Bowman side of my family. You can contact me here or at kclarkplus6@yahoo.com

I forgot to mention one of my grandfather’s sibling (not sure which one right now) had 18 children with numerous sets of twins.

Thanks again!

Hello,

I have a faulty transcription of the chapter entitled "Traits and Characteristics of the Bowmans". I think toward the end of the chapter, there is a line "Posterity, beholding this tapestry hanging upon the walls of time, must, surely, ever acknowledge and acclaim them true and worthy descendents of noble ancestors." The transcription is faulty for the next sentence - can you tell me what that sentence is?

What follows is a poem beginning "Our life is but the weaving..." So I need the sentence before the poem.

Thanks so much for replying, and I would appreciate any assistance that you could provide.

Thanks!

Joe

Yes, the James Pearson Bowmans in Bucyrus are of interest to me. His wife Sarah is the daughter of my 2nd great grandparents(William and Elizabeth Moffett). My 2nd great grandparents both died (1832 and 1839) leaving several children. I am trying to trace where James S. Moffett (24), Sarah Moffett (19), Samuel Moffett (17), Thomas Moffett (11) & Williamina "Regina" Moffett (8) were in 1840 after their parents died. It appears that James P. Bowman (28) was living in Bucyrus in 1840 (prior to that in Brownsville, PA) and the 3 middle children (including Sarah) were living with him in 1840. Sarah and James married two years later in 1842. My great grandfather (who lived in Madison, Indiana) and his children in later years, frequently visited the "Bucyrus relatives" per letters we have. I would love to share notes with you. Since this could get very involved, you may want to contact me directly at cathyvall@cox.net. I look forward to hearing from you.

I have Elizabeth "Lizzie" HART from their divorce paper that I have a copy of, but I have heard that her maiden name was STIFFEY or something like it. I do have a picture of her and George Ernest Bowman with George Ernest Bowman in it also.
Trying to find information David Bowman (a British soldier during WW2) for one of his relatives (a colleague of mine). He was in Cyprus and Lebanon and died in action in either location. I have found several David Bowmans on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission site, but none seem to be linked with Cyprus or Lebanon. His mother's hair went white overnight at the news that her son had been killed.

Also, the same family: trying to located birth details of Hugh Letford Bowman (born 1944 in Stirling, Scotland). Unfortunately, do not have access to Scottish birth records for this period.

Re: Jacob Bowman of Indiana son of George Bowman

George and Elizabeth (Airhart) Bowman had eight children: Josiah, John (died age 4), Jacob, Mary, Margaret, Nancy, George Hugh (my great-grandfather) and Christian. George died in October of 1869. Elizabeth and youngest son Christian are shown living in Jackson Township, Boone County, Indiana in the 1880 census but this seems to be the last record of Elizabeth's whereabouts. It's believed they're buried in the Poplar Grove Cemetery north of Lizton in southern Boone County but there are no grave stones for them there. Their son Jacob who served in the Civil War and died in 1906 is buried at Poplar Grove. I have information on George's and Elizabeth's ancestry if you'd like to contact me at dave.smith8633@sbcglobal.net

Re: Bowman line, Nova Scotia, Canada

If you are able to find out any information about this family - I'd love to see it.

I'm pretty sure we're following the same line. I have an old family Bible with listings of James Alexandra Bowman (1792 - ?) and Catherine Murray (1792 - ?), married Nov. 23, 1814. Then a listing for James Bowman, born Sept. 20, 1831, died Jan 27, 1878... married April 2, 1857 to Margaret Sinclair, born Nov. 18, 1836, died Dec. 30, 1925.

Their children were Catherine Murray Bowman (born Jan. 14, 1860), George Robert Bowman (April 27, 1864 - May 27 1864) Jessie Elizabeth Bowman (Jan 11, 1871 - Sept. 1947), James William Bowman (June 14, 1865 - Mar 21, 1923), and John Alexandra Bowman (Aug. 30, 1861 - Jan 15, 1937).

Note in both cases the middle name is listed as Alexandra not Alexander. Margaret Sinclair is listed in the 1891 Pictou county census as living with her son John. So there are two generations of James Bowmans here - one is the father of John (born 1831) and the one the grandfather (1792).

I found some marriage records that shows Frank Bowman and Nancy Herron (Bowman) as Lonnies parents at his marriage to Nellie. I believe we are looking at the same people as our relatives. Do you have any more info on Frank and nancy Bowman? I have been unable to find anything, till I ran across your post on here. Please let me know if you have anything. I'm trying to trace my civil war ancestors with no luck on the Bowman side. I have to get off now because of a thunder storm. I did not find any info. on the Bowmans, etc. in Lee Co., Va records, On an LDS family search I d id find Beaulah Bowman, b. 1902, Wise Co, who married Hobert Oren Davis of Wise Co.. Beaulah's father was listed as Frank Bowman, no parents were found for Hobert Davis. I could find no further information on Frank and Nancy Bowman, nor on Lonnie Eugene Bowman and Nellie Louise Dockery, If you are right Lonnie would be a brother to Beaulah Bowman? Could you e-mail me the marriage information for Lonnie and Nellie, to see if I can find anything further on LDS, unless you have already searched LDS.
I am trying to locate any ancestors of Joseph Bowman, who was born 1824 in North Carolina. He was killed in the Civil War. He was married to Catherine and had 4 children. He had moved to Carter County, Tennessee before the Civil War. I found him on the 1860 Tennessee Census. Both he and his wife were born in North Carolina. Any help would be appreciated. You may contact me through t78901234@yahoo.com. Thank you.

I recently purchased property in Charlotte County, Virginia, on the Staunton River. There is an old Bowman home and family cemetary. I seem to remember the name of Jacob Bowman, although this might be a common name. Might your information abount being in Staunton (August County) be incorrect and these are relatives of yours in Charlotte County on the Staunton River?
