I have traced my Richard Boxall to his father John Boxall, they were carpenters. Richard Boxall married Elizabeth Johns, they were my mother's grandparents, her father being William Henry Boxall who married Mary Mary Dorey, nee Fudge. William had one brother Francis, and four sisters, Elizabeth, Edith, Emily and Emma. Hope this will shed some light.

Hi Alan,

I am helping a friend research his connection to some Sussex Boxalls and came across your postings on ancestry.
First let me say that is an impressive amount of information that you have typed into those postings. You must have put in an awful lot of research to be able to post that many names. Does any part of your tree reach out to include Tillington, in Sussex? I am almost certain that the Emily Boxall bapt. on the 1 Nov 1835 at Tillington,in Sussex is the daur. of Edward Boxall and Sarah Earwicker who were at Petworth Parish, Sussex in 1841 and 1851. Edward Boxall may well have married Sarah Earwicker at Easebourne, Sussex,on the 26 May 1829. Edward Boxall was an Ag Lab. and their family was staying at One Mile Houses on the 1841 Census and then at the farm next door called Limbo/Limbow on the 1851 Census. Edward Boxall and Sarah Earwicker had at least seven children that I have been able to find. Their names were James, John, Emily, Alice E.,Edward, George and Jesse, in that order. Edward states that he was born at Tillington on the 1851 Census. He gives his age as 42 on the 1851 Census which ties in with an Edward Boxall bapt., on the 28 Jan. 1809 at Tillington. This Edward's parents are listed as John Boxall and Jane unknown. Does any of this ring any bells?

Cheers,

Grant

Hi Janine;
I have been working on a BOXALL (and variant) One Name Study (ONS) World Wide for a long time now and have an extensive database and many BOXALL family lines. I actually live in Saskatchewan. I believe there are two distinct BOXALL families that have contact here. One I believe I can help with the other not so much but just maybe with your added help and contact with family members just maybe working together we can breakdown this BOXALL wall. Do you have a copy of your father's birth certificate and his marriage certificate. Dates of birth, marriage death and place of each event. As much detail as you have would be great and then we can work backwards from there.

The Saskatchewan BOXALLs are one of my brickwalls, I even worked with a member of one of the families and am still hoping that he will question his family and see what information they are willing to pass onto me in order to put this BOXALL line together.

It will be easier though if you contact me direct at: boxall@one-name.org It is also easier for me to send files and reports as I manage to get information together for you.

If you can get his birth details and marriage details that would be a great start.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Kindest regards
Ronnie
Yep, I'm James Boxall, currently looking for some information on my great-grandfather - Frederick Charles Boxall, born 1884 possibly in Sussex. He had served in WW1 but we have very little information. Of course there are probably more Boxalls but it would be interesting to know if we are even related.

Could you tell me where St Saviour's Church is located? Is it the one in Southwark? Could you please send details of the burial. I have Daniel bc 1756 Seale, Sry. I also believe John and Elizabeth both are buried in Seale. John in 1774 and Elizabeth the widow of John in 1785. I then have Daniel m. Mary POTTER May 31, 1793, Daniel and Mary had five children all born in Seale and they are both buried in Seale. This all leaves me to believe that Daniel's parents are the John and Elizabeth buried in Seale, Sry. We do not have this family any further back than John and Elizabeth in Seale. Now there is a possibility that John first married a Jane and had two children with her, named John and Jane. I do not have John's marriage, I do have a gap in the Seale data with nothing for BOXALLs between 1642 & 1731 so chances are the marriages are also in Seale, Surrey. You can contact me direct at: boxall@one-name.org

Hi Norman,

thanks for getting in touch. The information I have on the Australian Boxall Ancestry is ALL in the tree. I do not have anything else.

This tree was originally a branch of my own tree in its first draught format but i discovered there were 2 Richard Boxalls not 1. I belive they are related most likely as cousins, but there is no evidence available from Parish Records, Wills etc to support this.

I have emphasised that the information i posted is a first draught and needs to be properly researched for each link.

As this is NOT my tree I have no real interest in persuing this as my own tree takes more time than I have.

You may wish to contact Jill Salt who is doing a One-Name Study on Boxalls. She might enjoy the challenge of proofing the tree with you.

Best Wishes

Alan

Hi Norman, the Tree relating to the Austalian Ancestry, was actually a branch of my family tree when it was in it's original draught. When I re-apraised it, in particular using information from Wills I realised that there were two Richard Boxalls not One. I was able to seperate them quite easily, but despite only a handful of Boxalls living in the area at the time, I was unable to find a common link. I can only assume they are cousins. I therfore had to snap off your Branch, but rather than just deleteing it I posted it here in case some one wanted to pick it up and correct all the mistakes.

If you are using it, please make sure you check each link as each line really need to be checked to make sure it is right.

You may wish to contact Jill Salt or Ronnie Mench as they are doing a Boxall one name study, and may wish to work with you on your tree as it is now quite a big one!

Regards, Alan

The Boxalls are still a large family in and around the Petworth area. Approx 150 years ago there were branches in Petworth itself, and the outlying villages of Tillington, Fittleworth, Selham, Lodsworth and Wisborough Green. The Petworth Emigration scheme 'sucked up' several Boxalls during the years the project was running. There is a website devoted to the Petworth Emigration project history - sorry, I've lost the link!
