I do believe we are cousins! I am also a descendant of William Boxer (b.1786). He was my 3rd great grandfather. I believe my GG grandfather, Frederic Nepheau Boxer, immigrated to Quebec when his uncle (Edward Boxer) was harbour master in Quebec. I grew up in Montreal and was also told that the family were originally French huguenots. In my version, I was told the name was originally Boyer, and they simply added a leg to the "y"!

I am a 4x-great grandson of William Hart Boxer (1826-1903) and Louisa Ann Back (c.1831-1901) of Folkestone, England. They lived on St. Michael's Street in Cambridge House. They're buried in the Old Folkestone Cemetery on Cheriton Road. William and Louisa had at least 11 children. I am a descendant of their son Henry Thomas Boxer (1853-1898) and Ann Maria Webb (1853-1926). I'm particularly interested in acquiring stories about the family and/or photos.

I am a graduate student at the University of Houston, and am writing a biography of Maj. Gen. Edward M. Boxer, third son of Admiral Edward Boxer. I believe he was born in 1822, and died 01 Jan 1898. I've been able to piece together a good deal of information, but am looking for more details on his family and relations.

I am the son of Tony Boxer (Antoine Boxeur) brother to Frank Boxeur. My father was born in Willow Bunch, Sask. Canada as identified on his "Certificate of Baptism." My uncles are Louis, Frank, my aunts are Vitaline, Adelle, and there are three sisters with the same first name but am not able to recall the name at this time. My mother's name is Mattie Ina Ricker Boxer and she and my father were married and they lived in Poplar, MT. My father passed away on 5 November 1977.

Mr. Packer. My name is Trevor Blake, deputy chairman of the board of Hampton School, Malvern, St. Elizabeth, Jamaica. We are now in the process establishing the Hampton Museum in the original Boxer house (originally owned by the son of Sir Edward Boxer). As you probably know Sir Edward died in the Crimean War and his widow was offered lodging in Hampton Court and their son named his home in Malvern, Hampton. When the school purchased the property and moved there 120 years ago it adopted the name of the property, hence the name Hampton School.

We are looking for photos, articles, etc. about the Boxers. The great grandson of Mr. Boxer who owned Hampton - Dr. David Boxer - is the Curator of the National Gallery of Jamaica and will be curating the Hampton Museum for us.

I am glad that you found me. I would love to hear any information you have about Sidney Cowper Philpot, my great great grandfather. What is your connection to Sidney?

Sidney Cowper Philpot and Ellen Palmer Witherden were married in St George’s Church, Ramsgate, Kent in 1865 and they immigrated to Australia in about 1866. Their first child, Unnamed Philpot died on the ship. Sidney was posted to a small country town, Mudgee, New South Wales as a teacher and their second child, Edith Frances Innes Philpot (my great grandmother) was born there. Not long after her birth they moved to Maitland, New South Wales where they had several more children.

I would be happy to give you my family tree of Sidney Cowper Philpot’s descendants.

Also I would like to hear all about the Boxer family in England.

Captain James Boxer RN was born in Dover 1779 and died in Dover 1847. His mother was Kitty (nee Smithett). Frances and Mary Ann were sisters, daughters of James and and his first wife Sarah. Frances married John Philpot and Sidney Cowper Philpot was their son.
We have a book in preparation on the story of the Boxer family so would be happy to share information with your branch if you are interested

I received a Marriage Certificate (Charlton, Kent in 1844)for John Philpot and Frances Boxer.

Their son, Sidney Cowper Philpot was my great great grandfather.

The certificate shows that Frances' parents were Captain James Boxer, R.N. and Sarah Boxer.

The witnesses were Kitty Boxer, William J Cowper and Mary Ann Boxer.

I couldn't find the connection with these witnesses.

Do you know anything about Captain James Boxer?

I am researching the Admiral who all lived in Québec City for some years on behalf of one of his descendants who emigrated from England to Montreal. The admiral, his brothers and sister all lived here during the hayday of the lumber business and shipbuilding. His daughter Jemima married a lumber baron in Québec and is buried here by him.
I would very much appreciate a jpg of the Admiral's picture, if you would be kind enough to share it. It shall be given to your distant cousin I am doing work for.

My grandfather was Harry Boxer, married to Lena. Emigrated from Russia/Poland to New York USA in 1903. They had the following children: Meyer, Shebsel, Minnie, Yetta, Benjamin, and Helen. There were older children who stayed behind in Europe.

The father of James, Edward and William was James Michael (abt 1757 – 1840) and he was a Master Mariner on Packet Ships between Dover and Calais. So far the only named ship I have for him is the Nancy. It might well be him.

We are currently updating the history of the descendants of Daniel Boxer (the Dover and Deal Boxers) that was written over 20 years ago but was never published. This update is intended for publication. Any information on Daniel, James Michael, James, Edward and William, their wives and children would be very welcome.

As I have the burial information for James Richard Boxer,11 October 1811 at St Nicholas, Sholden, son of Captain James Boxer he can't be the Richard you're enquiring about.
My connection with the Boxer family is through Captain James Boxer's first wife, Mary Elizabeth Hayman.
However, Richard may well be a child born of James' second marriage. He spent some time living in Calais and at least one of his daughters was born there, so it's feasible that a son was born there too.
Incidentally, I have just come into possession of a copy of a letter of marque and reprisal dated 1779, against the Spanish, which names James Boxer as Captain of the Kent. I presume this to be James, Edward and WIlliam's father. Does anyone know if this is true?

Richard is an unusual name for the Dover/Deal Boxer family although it is common among the Folkestone Boxers. However, it looks as though this Richard is likely to be James Richard, son of Captain James Boxer. James was the brother of Rear Admiral Edward. Hence Richard, rather than his son, would have been Edward’s nephew.

Although knighthoods were not awarded posthumously, in 1856 Queen Victoria declared that Edward’s wife Elizabeth and other widows were to have the title etc they would have had, had their husbands not died in service during the Crimean War. So Elizabeth became Lady Boxer.

This Richard seems to be from the generation following Edward rather than Edward’s.
As yet he doesn’t seem to fit in this tree but there is still a lot of sorting to do. Between us we should be able to solve this.

Rear Admiral Edward was not actually Sir Edward as, although he was recommended for the award of KCB, he died before it could be awarded and knighthoods are not awarded retrospectively. I am currently writing a biography of Edward so all information is welcome.

Re Admiral Edward Boxer - I have a birth certificate that shows his parents as James and Kitty. A Richard B. migrated to South Australia in 1855. One of his 4 sons who died in 1884 stated in his death notice that he was the nephew of the late Sir Edward B. I cant find the link between Richard and Edward ;can anyone help? Richard Boxer dob unknown but married 1834 to Sally Weston in Bexley,Kent. Parents unknown. He migrated to South Australia in 1850 with 4 sons(he was widowed c.1847). One of his sons died on Kangaroo Island in 1883;his death notice stated that he was the nephew of the late Sir Edward Boxer. If so,it makes Richard a brother of Edward but I can not make the link authoratively. I have a birth certificate that gives Edward's parents as James & Kitty. Molly was one of many children to I believe Morris Samel *not 100% sure* but I do know Mollie sister Bessie and brother Maurice. Bessie is my great grandmother. In response to information; I have in my possession a 1927 emerald green boxing ticket with Jack Sharky and Dempsey.
It is all in tack without damage except, the are few notebook rings on it. My dad was a welterweight champion boxer on the USS Vestal. He went by the boxing name of Tuffy Banks. I am not sure if I am chasing my tail or not but I am the gg graddaughter of Samuel Sharkey a boxer. It is said that he won the last name Sharkey from the famous Boxer Jack Sharkey in his final round. Having a hard time finding newspaper or anything else tangible to help with a passed down story in my family.

Hi my name is Elaine and my great great Grandfather was thomas Scott a boatswain on the Pique. His Captain was Edward Boxer and they fought in the battle of acre in 1840.
On the Piques return my great great grandfather was killed as a bad storm broke the mast intwo and killed him out right.A famous poem was written about his bravery.

So I am looking for any personnal photos of Edward Boxer or naval records anything really#

Amongst the photos I have members of the squard - Mowery, Gleason, demeter, Donnelly, Wingfield, Brockman (trainer) Soares, Calfee, Gay, Allen and my dad Tuffy Banks as he was called.
