Hello,
My grandmother is Sadie Shock Hitt from Magnolia, WV in Morgan, Co. Her parents were Lewis Charlton Shock and Mary Ellen Appold, who is the daughter of Rebecca Kesler, the daughter of Absalom and Catherine Kesler. I am researching my family connection with Absalom Kesler and his wife Catherine also. I don't have information about the Boxwell family and I would love to know more! Please send me an email if you get this.
adam.hitt@wku.edu

Thanks,
Adam Hitt
Louisville, KY

Hello Mrs. Maze,

I'm not familiar with your husband's name. So was his great-gandmother Laura Boxwell as is mine? Or was his great-grandmother married to Samuel Parker Sloan after Laura Boxwell passed?

I would love to have a picture of Laura Boxwell. I retrieved a pic of her with her family as a young girl through this website a while back.

Would love to know the connection between my family and your husband's.

Thank you for your message.

Lora Sloan
Great Grandaughter to Samuel Parker Sloan and Laura Boxwell.

I am Lora Lynn Sloan daughter of Francis John Sloan (deceased 11/1977), son of Francis Wesley Sloan (deceased 4/2000), son of Laura Francis Cabble Boxwell and Parker S. Sloan. Laura is daughter of Edward Francis Hetric Boxwell and Sara Ann Anderson Boxwell. Edward is son of Samuel L. Boxwell and Elizabeth. Samuel is son of Robert and Martha Boxwell. And Robert is son of Jane Orr and John Boxwell.

I love to find this information about my family tree.
Virginia Boxwell, Boxell

Hi
I am a new subscriber to this message board my name is
Merlin Boxwell. I decend from the Iowa Boxwell bunch.
Alvin Dale Boxwell 1914-2005
Ray Verden Boxwell 1888-1976
Moses Boxwell 1838-1909
Robert Boxwell 1797-1870

Can anyone help with who Roberts father is? I have found that Robert married Rhoda Young in Bath, Morgan Co.VA in 1825. It seems That John Boxell(Boxwell)1768 married to Jane Orr is most likely.

I have read through the Archives of this board and I found it most interesting. I thought that because I could not find any indication of John serving in the Revolutionary War was because he was to young. Most interesting that he was sued by some family member for serving of attempting to!
I came across some research my brother-in-law did about 25 years ago and found that in the Earley Records-Hampshire County Virginia Clara McCormick Sage & Laura Sage Jones
Genealogical Publishing Co.1969 Alphabetized index of Deeds,Leases,Mortgages & Other Instruments:
1798 Dutton, Kingsman (w.Mary) to John Boxell
7-17 of Hampshire Co. of Hampshire Co.
50 a. in Hampshire Co.;rec 9-17-1798
wit.: Benj.McDonald, Thomas Thrasher
also:
In the Eighth Annual Report of The Library Board of the Virginia State Library 1910-1911.....Richmond....1912

p.57 Revolutionary Soldiers of Virginia
Boxwell, John, Aud. Acct. XVIII, 538
Boxwell, Joseph, War 4, 102
Boxwell, Robert, War 4, 102

I have seen the text for the pension request for Joseph and Robert and I am most curious to find what is in the record for John.

Hallo Ronnie,

Dear All,

I've just taken a look at this information:

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~boxwell/pafg03.htm#...

I am guessing that the notes that say Robert BOXWELL bc 1727
was born in Kent is due the the various theories that the
BOXALL name originated in Salehurst/Robertsbridge area of
England. I'm still not convinced that this is the case but
I think that this Robert BOXWELL may have been born in
Hampshire abt 1718.

Anyone with links to this tree please contact me and share
any information that leads you to believe his place of birth
was Kent or if you have any other information that will give
me a better clue to the local of Robert before he arrived in
America... or details of his passage to America.

Kindest regards
Ronnie

Jan, you may hear from my 2nd cousin, Paula Miller, who has worked on our leg of the Boxell family for many years. Being the oldest living member, I try to fill in gaps when I can and for the past year my research has been in England, and Ireland, looking for our original Boxwell ancestor.
You can e-mail me at j.boxell@worldnet.att.net I will be happy to share Boxell family info with you. Thanks for your reply, Jack Boxell.

Dear Sharon,

You're very welcome. I'm happy that it's filled in some gaps for you, and the information you've posted is expanding what I have, so thank you, too!

My "Aunt" who had done a large amount of tracking of our family history passed away recently. I spoke with one of her daughters today (my cousin) and, when she is able to sort through her mother's things, will give me what information her mother had collected to copy. I don't know when this will be, as it's very soon after my Aunt's death and a very difficult time for the family. I'll be happy to share any information when it comes to me. It just might be awhile.

It is interesting about the Sarahs, and a good question as to whether they are one and the same. I have to agree that there is a good probability that Joseph Boxell and Leona Bonham were "our" Moses' parents. This is all like a huge puzzle with many missing pieces, but I guess that's the fun of it. ;-) I wish I could spend more time on research!

Take care...Jan

Bernard, don't give up, I'm trying to get to see the actual church records to help someone else, so I may as well check out the date of the marriage. There were also many chapels of different denominations around this time, there may have been one in Skenfrith, so the records may not show the marriage, and of course the date of the marriage may be wrong, so how ever hard you look it's not going to be there. Give me some time and I promise I'll get back to you.
Browns have lived in Llandogo down the valley from Penalt for years, I went to school with some, Penalt is a hill visible from Monmouth , it's across the river from where I grew up, I'll be back Fred

Yes Fred I did but the variations are endless - including names such as POWELL, HOWELL, .... if the 'x' was the problem. I have accessed the original Skenfrith Bishop's transcripts from the LDS but the surname isn't there let alone the particular marriage entry I was looking for - for any name for that particular date.

I accessed the original BOXEL name from an on-line database and have contacted the site owner a number of times requesting a check of the spelling of this name but all without success. His attitude is that I need to do more research into the occurrence of the BOXEL/BOXALL/... name and its variations in the area.

I have located a family at Penallt called BOX who have a very likely candidate of the right age and forename but will need something more substantial to confirm this.

I assume that the database I previously mentioned was compiled from the original Parish Records rather than the Bishop's Transcripts. Unfortunately from here in Australia they are not accessible. I have tried requesting look-ups on the RootsWeb mailing list for Monmouthshire a number of times - all without a response.

I would be very grateful for any help. The particular marriage was of William BROWN[E] of Llangattock Lingoed and Mary BOXEL of Skenfrith at Skenfrith in 1808.

Bernard - Did you ever consider that Boxel may be mis-spelt, it was quite common when documents were hand written. I can find no trace of Boxel, but found the name Boxall, and Boxwell, but not many. I may be looking through records in Skenfrith in due course to help someone else, I'll see what I can find, and of course the name may have died out. Cheers fred

Dear Jan,

Thank you so mcuh for posting this. I really appreciate it very much!! It filled in a lot of gaps for me. I had Joseph as of 1850, but did not have a father or any record of him before that census.

I have:

1850 CENSUS: Joseph Boxwell, 17, Farmer, b. MD living in Perry TWP, Putnam, OH with Catharine Boxwell, 14, b. MD. They are living in a home headed by Sarah Spitzmaugh, 22, VA along with James V. Spitzmaugh, 14, MD; Jacob, 10, b. MD; Samuel Spitzmaugh, 7, born MD; George Spitzmaugh, 5, MD; and Mary V. Spitzmaugh, 1, born OH. Listed on page 77.

I'm wondering if Sarah Spitzmaugh is actually his sister Sarah Boxwell who later married a Keifer.

Also, it says that Moses' parents came to America prior to the Revolutionary War. I don't know much about Catherine Fogwell. But I do have a pension from Joseph Boxwell (Boxell) (husband of Leona Bonham) which lists a son Moses who is the right age to be Joseph N.'s father. Pension also says "24 July 1830. Allegany Co., Md. Joseph Boxwell declares he moved from Virginia to Maryland because his son had rented a place in Allegany County and he wishes to be with his son or near him.". So I really think these are probably Moses' parents.

Thanks again for posting this.

Sharon

Raymond A Boxwell of St Joseph Co IN killed in South Pacific WWII

Raymond A Boxwell of St Joseph County Indiana was killed September 16, 1944, in the South Pacific during World War II. He is officially listed as missing or buried at sea. His name appears on the “Tablets of the Missing” at the Manila American Cemetery in the Philippines. We are seeking information regarding his military and civilian life.

I am a retired Hoosier from Madison County residing in the Philippines with my Filipino wife. We are seeking family and military information about servicemen from your county killed in the South Pacific during World War II. There are 17,206 Americans buried here and thousands more that are missing or buried at sea and are honored on the “Tablets of the Missing”. Please visit our website to see the beautiful memorial located in Manila, Philippines.

http://fizkid.tripod.com/

My wife and I visited the cemetery as visitors and left with a mission in our heart. We have been taking photographs of the graves of the Indiana servicemen buried here and have been uniting them (at no charge) with their family members in Indiana and across the United States. To receive the photo of your family member, neighbor or friend all you need is a working email address. We do not send them to regular mailing addresses due to the costs. Please help us find the families of the men that might still be living. Our project is only successful because of teamwork and your contributions are noted on our website. If you wish to help us we will be pleased to add your name to our ACKNOWLEDGMENT page on the website. The obituaries usually did not appear till to three months after the death date.

If you are not a genealogist you can help by just picking up the telephone directory and find someone with the same last name and give them a call. It has worked many times for us.

Zenas5@yahoo.com

Sincerely,

Dave and Apple Dwiggins
San Pablo City, Philippines
