The surnames are my mothers side of the family. We believe Mary O'Donnell (nee Boyce), was my grandfathers cousin and married an O'Donnell from Port Richmond and relocated to Delaware County. We have been told that the marriage endded in a nasty divorce-rare for the times and religion The Boyces settled in Schuykill or the "Devils Pocket" section of Philadelphia and migrated from there over the years. Other names related are Shiel(d)s, Boyce, McGinty, McGinley, Logue. Some settled in Port Richmond, most in SW Philly in Blessed Sacrament Parish.

For those areas you could get the books by Dr Leslie Lucas, called. Meevagh and more about meevagh written by him.

Also he did genealogy of all the families in the area. I was at his house in Rossguille, where I saw volumes of his family trees for the area. When he died he gave it to a local family history or history group.

Joe

Hi,

I'm hoping that James D. Boyce and Jennie B. Smith who married in Missouri about 1881 may have some descendants out there. They had three children: Grace, born 1882; Harry W., born 1883; and Cecil D., born 1887. James and Jennie died in 1897, and the children lived with their grandparents: Levin M.
I am descended from a Maggie Boyce of Carrigart. She left there in the 1880s to come to Philadephia PA. Her son's handwritten notes say she had three siblings, including a Patrick, also a Mary and Bridget. Her parents were noted by her son to be James and Ellen. A Joseph Boyce was a cousin. It's been a decade since you posted but I hope you get this reply.

Carrigart is where my great grand mother, a Boyce, was born. I have a postcard of St John the Baptist R.C. Church in Carrigart in her son's photo album. She emigrated to the Manayunk section of Philadelphia in the 1880s. Her parents were James and Ellen. She had three siblings, Bridget, Mary and Patrick. I have not been able to locate any of their descendants. There were some Boyce cousins in Manayunk as recently as the 1930 census, including males named Joseph, Leo and Francis ( I have pictures of Joseph and Leo in that photo album), but I have not been able to trace them any further than that. They were sons of Joseph Boyce and Ellen Dougherty. I wonder if any of this sounds familiar. If so, would you get in touch with me?

I am also trying to solve the connection between the Boyce family and my GGGrandmother (Samuel Chatham's mother, Anne Maria). I discovered that she married Thomas Boyce (from NY) and is shown living at Nomini Grove with Samuel, Mary, Benjamin, and Emma Chatham after the death of Anne Marie's husband Patrick Chatham.) I grew up in Chatham Village (Boyce Point) and remember that the old Boyce house was in the field between my Grandfather's house and our home. My Aunt's might remember something about them, but not certain.

Hi, my name is Karen Kelly Boyce. I have done some research on my husband's family of Boyces. They come from a small town in Donegal called Carrigart. It is just as you describe. We went there 12 years ago and it is full of Boyce's Many of the businesses in town are owned by Boyce's There is also a famous musical band out of Philadelphia that traces its roots to the Boyce's of Carrigart Co. Donegal. I think it is called 'Blackstone' Anyway I hope this helps.

Here is my Boyce family pedigree, as taken from the family bible in our possession. Margaret Louisa Boyce, m. Aries Philip Brooke, was my great-grandmother. I have not been able to find any significant information in outside records to take the line back any further, but I assume that it connects to other early NJ/NY Boyce/Boice/Buys lines. Throughout the nineteenth century they were in central-northern NJ, with occasional excursions into NY City.

Alec Christensen

Isaac Boyce, b.
Here is my Bailey link to the Llano, TX Moss family:

My ggrandmother was Malinda "Adeline" Bailey who was born in Escambia County FL. She married John Merrill Williamson born in AL. One of her sisters, Charoltte Bailey, was also born in FL. I have read that Charlotte married William B. "Bill" Moss in 1884 in Llano County, TX.

I also read that Bill was the son of Matthew "Mark" Moss and Mary Ann Boyce, and was born 10/22/1850 in Williamson, Co TX, and died 8/6/1926 and is buried in the Moss Family Cemetery in Llano Co.

This is all I have, and all I know of the Moss/Bailey family.

If you would like any additional information, I can provide it.

FYI, the reason we have a headstone at Moore Memorial Gardens is because my mother and father wanted to be remembered but they both donated their bodies to science so there is no actual burial there.
Best regards,
James Boyce
Austin, TX

Hi
I have over 1500 names in my tree. Starting from a Francis Boyce in 1765 in Shotesham, Norfolk. They were plumbers and glaziers and moved to Garboldisham, Hockham and Southwold. I've found a Thomas Boyce and son John James Boyce in Thetford and both plumbers but I have found no connection. The headmaster at Thetford boys' grammar school was a Dr Boyce. So I am very interested in Thetford
Regards
Allan Boyce, Chelmsford, England

Peter T. Boyce's Divorce

Peter T. Boyce filed for divorce from wife Ophelia in 9/1877 in Salt Lake County, Utah. Ophelia did not contest the action. Papers state Peter & Ophelia md in 1873 in Kingston, New York and that couple had not lived together for 14 months prior to divorce action. Is there a record of this mg. in Ulster New York? Is there a record of Peter and or Ophelia in Ulster New York?
For a period of time, divorce was really easy to get in early day Utah and a length residency was not needed (pre 20th century Reno Nevada)and divorces were somewhat of a money machine for Utah, so it is possible that Peter T. Boyce was a resident of Utah only for the length of time it took to file for a divorce.

Hello,

My name is Ken Boyce...I am researching the family of John Boyce (b: 1818, Butler County, PA). I have good reason to believe that John's father was named John and believe he was born before 1794.

I believe the elder John had a brother and/or father named William. There was a Willam living in Adams Township, Butler County, PA in 1858 but gone by 1872. A number of other younger offspring of apparent relatives were also named William suggesting a strong family tie. Last but not least, the names James, Samuel and Sarah are present within the Butler/Allegheny County Boyce clan.

I have a public tree on ancestry.com titled "Boyce Family Tree". It might be worth your time to take a look. Let me know if you think there is a link between the two research efforts.

I have attached a JPEG of the 1858 Adams Township land ownership map. The farm of Wm Boyce is shown as is the farm of Wm's likely brother or son named Stephen.

Tullagh, a/k/a Tully, is a small town in the north of County Donegal. Specifically it is a townland in the parish of Mevagh a/k/a the parish of Rosguill. It is either adjacent to or part of the town of Carrigart.
Your physical description is consistent with the geography there. Boyces indeed were, and still are, concentrated in this parish. Look for the 1828 Tithe Applotment books for example.
My ggm was a Boyce from there.
