LONE TREE, Iowa -- Beulah M. Boyd, 86, of Lone Tree died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, following an extended illness.

SACRAMENTO, California -- Jess Willard Boyd, 87, a former resident of Muscatine, died Tuesday, April 23, 2002, at the Kaiser South Hospital, Sacramento, Ca.
Services are 1 p.m. Monday at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Dr. Pam Saturina of the First Presbyterian Church will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation is 11 a.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home.
Mr. Boyd was born March 18, 1915, in Conesville, the son of Hugh and Carrie Boyd. He married Venita Dickey July 4, 1944, in Muscatine.
He was a United States Army veteran receiving a medical discharge in 1943.
The family moved to California in 1956.
He worked at TRC Helicopter in Southern California until retiring to Northern California in 1980, where he enjoyed making wine, working in his fruit orchard, putting around his yard and spending time with his great-grandchildren.
There are no words to describe the joy that Jess has given his family and friends. Jess was honest, hardworking, caring, loving man with a sense of humor that always left a smile. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Venita Boyd of Ca.; three children, Cheryl Johnson of Ca., Douglas Boyd of Columbus Junction and Steven Boyd of Fredonia; six grandchildren, Lesa Russell of Washington, Gena Foreman of Ca., Michael Femenia of Ca., Kristina Boyd of Arizona, Dawn Boyd of Washington and Anna Boyd of Fredonia; five great-grandchildren, Ty and Taylor Anne Foreman of Ca. and Mathew, Hannah and Zoe Russell of Washington and two sisters, Caroline Hesseltine of Columbus Junction and Ethel Campbell of Prophetstown, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Janet Sue Boyd; a sister, Leona; and brothers, Frank, Willie, Joe and Don Boyd.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Paul J. Boyd, 79, Winston-Salem, died Aug. 22, 2002, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, Winston-Salem.
Memorial services were held Sept. 13 with full military honors at National Cemetery, Salisbury, N.C. Memorials may be made to the North Carolina Forsyth County American Cancer Society or Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home.
Mr. Boyd was born on March 11, 1923, in Cumberland, the son of Rev. Charles C. and Neva E. Whittiker Boyd. He married Dorothy Agnes Pritchard (Boyd) Lyon on Nov. 4, 1944. They divorced in 1977.
He graduated from Hillsboro High School, Hillsboro, in 1940.
He was a member of the 1st Marine Division on Guadalcanal and other Pacific Ocean locations during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 172 in Columbia, S.C.
He was employed by the Iowa Farm Bureau for nine years after graduating from Western Illinois University. He was employed for 28 years as a science teacher for grades 7-12 in Iowa Public school systems, including 10 years at Grand Meadow School near Pierson and Marcus and also 18 years in the Muscatine Community Schools, Muscatine. After retiring from teaching, he moved to Clover, S.C., where he worked at the T.J. Maxx distribution center for the Charlotte. N.C. area.
Survivors include a son, Daniel L. Boyd of Clemmons, N.C.; three daughters, Nancy L. Boyd of Ossining, N.Y., Mary Langlais of Harwich, Mass., Kathryn E. Hanover of Wood River, Ill.; two sisters, Lloyda Long of Brandon, Mo. and Marianne Bokenkamp of Nokomis, Fla.; 12 grandchildren, Andrea Boyd Helm, Kenneth D. Boyd, Lori Boyd Rawl, Gwendolyn Boyd Labay, Deborah Boyd Laws, David L. Boyd, Michael Langlais, Dan Langlais, Rachel Langlais, Rebecca Langlais, Matthew Langlais and Paul Hanover; and eight great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Boyd was born April 20, 1916, in Ainsworth, the daughter of Glen and Edna Lillian Moore Sands. She married Willie Boyd June 19, 1937, in Washington. He preceded her in death in 1990.
She was a 1934 graduate of Ainsworth High School.
She was a homemaker. She was also an active member of Columbus Junction United Methodist Church and an avid quilter.
Survivors include a son, Larry Boyd and wife Sheila of Salt Lake City, Utah; a daughter, Merry Wasson and husband Tom of Columbus Junction; three brothers, James William and wife Kathleen of Mission, Texas, Dick Sands and wife Barbara of Morning Sun and Sam Sands and wife Rita of Columbus Junction; three sisters, Charlotte Morrison of Columbus Junction, Jean Wykert and husband Ray of Oakville and Joan Grim and husband Everett of Nichols; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, Robert R. Sands; and two sisters, Myrna Hazelett and an infant sister.

COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa - Nellie Boyd, 88, Columbus Junction, died Sunday, Nov. 19, 2006, at Colonial Manor Care Center, Columbus Junction.
The Rev. Cathy Whitlatch will officiate. Casket bearers are Doug Boyd, Edwin Verrips, Mike Williams, Wilbur Tomkins, Rusty Patterson and Joshua Goodwin. Burial will be at Indian Creek.
A memorial has been established for the Methodist Church.
Mrs. Boyd was born Jan. 25, 1918, in Wapello, the daughter of James Laughlin and Estella Margaret Woodruff Bennett. She married Joe Everette Boyd on Jan. 29, 1935, in Muscatine. He preceded her in death in June 1983.
She and her husband moved to rural Columbus Junction from Conesville in 1950. The farm house was really in bad shape, but they managed to make it into a working farm in a few years. She enjoyed farm life. Her favorite pastimes were gardening and planting flowers. She later took up painting and had several painting awards to attest to her talent. She loved to raise sheep and a few half Arabian horses, of which her daughter, Sharon, loved to ride. She was a great animal lover and always had Siamese cats around the house. She was also quite the antique collector and acquired many lovely pieces of antique furniture and china. Antique shopping was in her blood. She loved old houses and barns, especially those built by her father. She was always family oriented and would welcome everyone into her home and insist that they stay for dinner or supper. Everyone enjoyed her cooking. All of her relatives and friends would sit around the table after a great meal and play ''Penny Anti.'' Those times were good. She was a cook at the Epicurean Supper Club in the late 1950's. She also cooked at Colonial Manor Care Center for awhile.
Survivors include her children, James Patrick Boyd and wife Judy of Grandview and Sharon Eileen Boyd of Burlington; three grandchildren, Stanley Joe Boyd of Lafayette, Colo., Kelly Jo Goodwin of Fruitland and Tammera Jean Crone of Bozeman, Mont.; and a great-grandchild, Joshua James Goodwin.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Rodger Boyd in November 1935; three sisters, Geneva Harrison, Cleda Birney and Ursula Dixon; a brother, Paul Bennett; two half-brothers, Clifford Bennett and Estle Bennett; and a half-sister, Jenny Partington.

COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa - Gayla Jean Van Auken Boyd, 50, of Columbus Junction, died Monday, May 28, 2007, in Columbus Junction, following a courageous battle with cancer for 2 ' years.
The Revs. Harry Swan and Catherine Whitlatch will officiate.
Casketbearers will be Jeramie Hoag, Elijah Hoag, Levi Hoag, Pat Boyd, Doug Boyd and Bryan Martin.
Honorary casketbearers will be Isaac Lukins, Mitchell Lukins, Colby Counce, Jesse Rivers, Jr., Naomi Counce and Olivia Counce.
Burial will be at the Columbus City Cemetery.

Mrs. Boyd was born Sept. 9, 1956, in Iowa City, the daughter of Richard and Shirley (Brown) Metzger and the late James Raymond Van Auken.
She married Steven Craig Boyd Aug. 14, 1982 in Columbus Junction. She worked as a nursing assistant at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
She was a member of the Columbus Community Free Methodist Church and enjoyed crocheting, gardening, cooking, fishing, visiting with friends, always giving to others and especially, she loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Anyone who knew her was touched by her.
She will be dearly missed by her husband; her daughters, Kristina Marie Boyd of Mesa, Ariz., Dawn Michelle Martin and husband, Bryan, of Ainsworth and Anna Marie Boyd of Columbus Junction; her parents, Richard and Shirley Metzger; her sisters, Peggy and Jon Hoback of Columbus Junction, Sheila Lukins and husband, Mark, of Washington and Melody Counce and special friend, Jesse Rivers, of Washington; two grandchildren, Bryan Willard Martin and Samantha Marie Gomez; two nieces; seven nephews; and many friends and co-workers.
She was preceded in death by her father; grandparents; and a nephew, Tyron Miles.

MUSCATINE, Iowa — William “Bill” D. Boyd, 67, of Muscatine, passed away on Thursday, November 12, 2009, at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus, following a brief illness.
Per his families wishes, his body has been cremated. There will be no services. His cremains, along with his wife’s, will be buried at Muscatine Memorial Park Cemetery. The Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services is in charge of arrangements.
William D. Boyd was born on May 31, 1942, in Bayfield, Wisconsin, the son of William and Delma Buffalo Boyd. He married Hazel Bell on February 7, 1976, in Rock Island, Illinois.
He was a U.S. Air Force veteran.
He worked for HON Industries for 27 years and later worked at Blain’s Farm and Fleet in the warehouse.
He is survived by two step-sons, Jeff Rhodes and wife, Candi, and Steve Rhodes, both of Muscatine; nine grandchildren, Amber Rhodes, Robert Rhodes, Charity Molds, Josh Lewis, Lacy Lewis, Steve Rhodes Jr., Stephanie Rhodes, Scott Rhodes and Rochelle Rhodes; several great grandchildren; five brothers, Steven Boyd, Edward Boyd, Robert Boyd, David Boyd all of Bayfield, Wisconsin, and Martin Boyd of Aurora, Colorado; three sisters, Mary Miller of Wheeling, Illinois, Judy Glassburn of Franklin, Indiana and Catherine Boyd of Fort Worth, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife in 2007 and a stepson, Glen Rhodes.

LOVELAND, Colo. - Margaret (Smith) Boyd, 83, formerly of West Liberty, Nichols and Muscatine, died Saturday, Nov. 15, 2003, at McKee Medical Center, Loveland, after a brief illness.
Memorial services are 11:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 28, at Zion Lutheran Church, Atalissa. The Rev. Terry Mahnke will officiate. Burial will be at Oakridge Cemetery, West Liberty.
The Barker Funeral Home, West Liberty, is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any memorial gifts be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation or the Salvation Army, Muscatine Chapel.
Mrs. Boyd was born Oct. 16, 1920, on the family farm in Cedar County, the daughter of Anthony ''Tony'' and Alvena Schroeder Oostendorf. She married Orville S. Smith Jr. May 22, 1943, in Kirksville, Mo. He preceded her in death in 1957. She and Orville had four children, Doris Bernice, Sandra Kay, Dale Alan and Sara Jane. She later married Winfred L. Smith Jan. 25, 1965, in West Liberty. He preceded her in death in May 1975 in Ashland, Mo. She then married Earl R. Boyd Aug. 18, 1985. He preceded her in death May 13, 1997.
She and Earl lived in California, Missouri, and then Iowa before moving to Colorado in 1996.
She graduated from Muscatine High School in 1938. She attended the Iowa State Teachers College, now the University of Northern Iowa, and received her teaching certificate in 1938.
She was a senior soldier in the Muscatine Salvation Army Corps at the time of her death.
She loved to travel, cook and bake fancy decorated cakes. She also enjoyed crafts, reading and music. She loved spending time with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include a daughter, Sara Stanoff of Atalissa; a son, Dale Smith and wife Kristine of Muscatine; three stepsons, Dale Boyd and wife Edith, Edward Boyd and Steven Boyd and wife Christine; a son-in-law, Merlyn Graham of Loveland; a stepson-in-law, Stephen Nelson and wife Kathleen; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; 12 step grandchildren; and 10 stepgreat-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and long-time friends.
She was preceded in death by three husbands; two daughters, Sandra and Doris; her parents; her stepmother, Hazel; a brother, John Oostendorf and his son, Colin.
