Julia, thanks for your response. I don't have access to 1851 census. The George Boyes I have was brn 1826? Supposedly he was born in york, possibly in Middleham, and he became a coachman? this is a result of family knowledge and so is questionable. The George you mentioned in 1851 census, was he born in Yorkshire. I find him in the 1881 census in Durham, 56 and married. It sounds like it could be a match. He married an Ellen or Eleanor Oliver, before 1861.
