Hi Alma,

this is certainly the same family. My great grandmother was a Boyes. Her name was Eleanor or Ellen. A lttle confusing. I'd like to share what we know.

I'm not computer savvy and have problems sometimes finding these answers. My email is sueraynes@gmail.com.

Thanks for responding.
Sue

I don't think we have the same line? Thomas Boyes was born in Scotland in 1819. I don't have a James in my line until recently 1953. I am stuck at Thomas Boyes and do not know exactly where he was born or if he had any brothers and sisters or even who his parents are. Frustrating!
Thanks,
Jennifer Boyes

Do you know if James has a brother named Thomas? Thomas married Elizabeth Hanna in 1839 in Quebec, Canada. So at some point they immigrated from Scotland to Canada, but I am not sure when. When was James born?

I have the marriage certificate for Jane Boyes and William Brumpton in Scarborough in 1863. Scarbroough and Whitby are not far apart. I wonder if there is a connection with your Boyes?
Her father George Boyes was a shoemaker.
I am interested in the Brumpton side and know in 1866 they had twins in Scarborough who died. We cannot find William and Jane on the census so are stuck.

My main interest is in the Brumpton side.
I have the marriage certificate in 1863 at Scarborough, Yorkshire for this couple and know she had twins in Scarborough in 1866 and both died.
Does anyone know what became of this couple?

He was born about 1833/34 and she was a couple of years younger.

Brumpton is usually a Lincolnshire surname but nothing on the IGI that fits either of them. Until I find them on the census we do not know where they were born.

A little more background here - John Gant's first wife was Elizabeth Barmby, b. 1854 in Hutton Cranswick, very close to Driffield where other Boyes also lived. It is quite possible that one of her sisters - Mary Jane (b.1854), Sarah (b.1855) or Nancy (b.1860) or brothers Wilson (b.1850) or Timothy (b. 1857) married into the Boyes but I have not eliminated any of them through systematic census/BMD searches.
Additonally, I have yet to determine her mother's (Mary) maiden name.

Were you ever able to locate the place of burial? I have been researching THOMAS HENRY BOYES for several years and have yet to find his date of death or place of burial. His wife, MARGARET/MAGGIE is listed as a widow in the 1891 Hartford City Directory. I have a copy of her 1941 death notice, but it did not include a place of burial.

Would you be willing to share information with me? THOMAS was the son of my great-grandmother's sister, BARBARA GORDON BOYES. I would be happy to share any of my research with you.

Re: Richard Boyes - Lastingham Churchyard

Richard, if you are referring to Lastingham in North Yorkshire, it most definetly is still in existence. My wife and I visted the church last year to find one of her ancestors, John Proud. It is an extremely old and famous church in one of the most lovely places in the country. If you just "google" Lastingham you will find a ton of links some of which may provide the information you are looking for.
