Re: Bridget Boyle and Matthew Gregory PA, USA

Hi Susan,
We can only presume that Bridget emigrated for economic reasons. She was born in Feb 1865, Emigrated to the US in 1884 married Matthew Gregory in 1889.He was an Iron Moulder,
who was born in the US but had an Engish Dad and a Scottish Mom. They lived in Philadelphia and had 15 children in total of which 8 lived. I understand Fannie was the youngest. She was born in 1908 two years after my Granny Mollie.
Bridget goes off the radar between the 1910 and 1920 census and as Matthew turns up remarried in the 1920 census we can only presume that Bridget died. According to the 1910 census Bridget had 14 children with 8 alive but family lore is that she had 15 children so maybe she died having the last baby, I don't know. She would have only been 45 at this stage, only 5 years older than me which is unimaginable.

According to my Granny,Bridget had 5 brothers and 2 sisters at least.
The brothers were William, Patrick, Joseph,Neil and John (my great grand-dad who died at 102).
Her sisters were Cassie and Mary.
Mary also emigrated to the US about the same time as Bridget. She is supposed to have married a man by the surname of Douglas I haven't been able to track them down.

I am not sure what became of the other family members.

My great grandfather John stayed in the family home in Tullycleave, Ardara, Co. Donegal.
He married a lady called Bridget McNeils and they went on to have 14 of a family too. 12 girls and 2 boys. Three of the girls went to the US. My Granny Mollie was due to go but eloped at the last minute and stayed in her home town
with her husband Tom Gallagher and had 7 children the youngest of which is my mother Kathleen. Two of their family also emigrated to the US.
Granny and her sister Rose Agnes are the only members of that generation left but there is a huge extended family and the home and farm where Bridget was born is still owned by the Boyle family having gone to the only surviving son John Patrick and in turn to his family. Even though I was born and reared in Dublin we spend a lot of time in Donegal.
I am married and we I have three children, twins called Brendan and Michael aged 12 and Molly aged 10. I work as Chief Environmental Health Officer with the Irish Health Service.
I am delighted we have made contact because I often feel that the women in family research get missed out and somewhat overlooked.
Once they marry their name and identity are lost even though as mothers and grandmothers they may have played an enormous part in shaping the survival and future of many
more generations to come. Here is Bridget a lady who left her family in Ireland at the age of 19 and never came home died in her 40s leaving 8 children including Fannie who lost her Mom at a very young age. I just feel they all deserve their place in history even if it is only their family history so maybe now via email we have in someway
completed the circle.
I look forward to hearing from Frank Senior if he is interested in getting in touch, please feel free to email me
directly on annmarie.part@hse.ie
Nice talking to you
Regards
Ann Marie

I forwared your messages to my father in law, Frank Robert Steinbach Sr, Fannie's son. She also has a daughter named Adalade. Frank Sr lived in the Philadelphia area most of his life and worked in the trucking industry. His father was a roofer. Both his father, Frank George, and Fannie died many years ago. Frank Robert married Marian Poate 50 years ago, and they now live in Delaware. They have three children: my husband Frank Robert Jr (USN, RET, LCDR), Kathleen (workes in the insurance industry) and Eric (he works in security). When I get a reply from my in laws I will forward it to you. Does anyone know what brought Bridget to the US? What of the family in Ireland?

Hi Susan, Greetings from Dublin. Great to hear from you. I am so excited. I just really wanted to know as much as you can tell me about the family after Bridget Boyle died.

Matthew remarried and John and Fannie went to live with him. Fannie would be a first cousin of my grandmother Mollie who is still going strong in Donegal, Ireland at the ripe old age of 103 and her sister Rose Agnes is even better at 100.Their Dad John who was an uncle of Fannie's was nearly 102 when he died in 1971.
The Boyle family still live in the family home so I am just conscious that there is an entire family of Gregory's in the US who have their roots in a great part of Ireland and they may not even know it.
Ann Marie Part

He first married Francis Elvira Tanner and remarried after her death to Elizabeth ?????. His Daughter is my great great grandmother. Her name was Mary A Boyle. She married James thomas Benson.
Boyle-Dougherty, Beaver Meadows-Simpson-Philadelphia, PA

Looking for any information on Cornelius "Condy" Boyle and his wife Catherine E "Katie" Dougherty. Condy was born abt 1858 in Ireland, and immigrated around 1865. Katie was born in PA around 1860. They were married about 1876.

They lived in Beaver Meadows from 1878 through at least 1889. They moved to Simpson prior to 1895.

Condy died 10 Apr 1909, and is buried in the St Rose Cemetery in Carbondale. His death certificate shows that his parents were Hugh Boyle and Bridget Ferry, both born in Ireland.

Katie moved to Philadelphia with a number of her kids where she lived at 1513 N. Gratz St. Property records seem to indicate that she purchased the property in 1911, and the property was sold in 1929 by her "agent". She no longer appears in the 1930 census, and her kids still live at the same address, but are now renters. I believe when she died the kids did not have the funds to purchase the property, so it was sold by her estate and rented back to the family.

One final clue: A newspaper clipping from the Scranton Republican on 31 Jan 1903 talks about a Condy Boyle of Simpson and the death of his brother Daniel and nephew Hugh in Phillipsburg, PA, and that M/M Boyle and sons Hugh and Richard were heading to the funeral. This matches the Simpson Boyles I am related to. I haven't found any Boyles in Philipsburg, PA -- but there is a Daniel and Hugh and family in Phillipsburg, NJ in 1900. So this may be a typo.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Kevin Boyle

Yes, we always called him Charles but I remember others calling him Chuck. How well do you know the family? SO many times family members don't keep in touch. As I said your uncle Robert lives near me. He and his wife Brenda have 5 children, all grown. Are you still going to Ireland? Brenda Sivley probably has more info on the family than I do. I know her daughter Rachel was wanting info not to long ago.

My grandfather's (Bernard Boyle) family was from Wilkes Barre, Luzerne, PA. My great grandfather, Hugh Boyle, worked in the mines starting as a slate picker and moving his way up to the office at the top of the mine shaft. This story is from a second cousin of mine.

I have not located a "Patrick" in my family tree, but there are some Bernard's, Edward's and at least one cousin John.

I am not sure what other info you might be interested in.

I don't know what county in Ireland they were from, only that Dad said his Grandparents came from Ireland and settled in Mt. Pleasant Tennesee.

Dad said Patrick Martin Boyle Sr.'s birthday was March 17th or September 1st (dad didn't tell me the year) and his father's name was Joseph M. Boyle. My dad crossed out some things he wrote to me getting some of the info about his parents mixed up, so I'm not sure which birthday was Grandma's and which was Grandpa's. He said Grandfather Patrick Sr. met Grandmother when she worked at Southern Bell Phone Co. She was 15 years old at the time. They were married at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Nashville. I wonder if they have records.

My mother was Elizabeth Boyle youngest daughter of Matthew Boyle. My uncle is James (Jimmy) Boyle youngest son of Matthew Boyle and would like to get in touch with you to find out more about his uncle Robert and the rest of your family. He asked me to pass on his email address which is jas.boyle@sympat.
I am interested in any descendents of Bridget Boyle born 1860s in Ardara, Co.Donegal. Emigrated in 1880s or there abouts to Phildelphia. She married Matthew F. Gregory and had 15 pregnancies with 8 children living including 3 boys Matthew, Neil ( Neal) and John and girls Mary E, Agnes, Anne, Fannie, Catherine. Two of the girls married, one to Elmer Krouse and one to Sigmund Schnieder. There were are number of grandchildren that I have tracked. Matthew and Raymond Gregory and two Schnieder girls Catherine and Agnes all born in the 1920s.
If any of this rings a bell please let me know. Briget died between 1910 and 1920 and by 1920 Matthew had remarried a woman called Ellen.

Re: BOYLE,BOWES,GILLILAND,BYRNE, IRELAND TO SCOTLAND

There were many byrnes in my husband's family in Motherwell (Near Glasgow) in Scotland (I think they came to Scotland from Ireland around the mid 1800's). You should check the scotlandpeople website census reports, you may find relatives there. Lanark/Glasgow is the region that includes Motherwell.

Family was a members of St Francis Cuch in Nanticoke and most are buried there.
You sent me a message but for some reason I am not able to reply to it.....so I am trying to reach you in this way....and hoping it works....I had gotten some records from your tree and you were wondering about the connection.

My husbands father descended from the Hozeny family. Emily Hozeny married Joseph T Triggs (1903 - 1971). Joseph T had a brother James (1905 - 1987) who married into your tree Pauline Helen Pietrosky.

I started following the ancestry hints and it lead to other people and records that led to other hints etc. If you send me your regular email address, I will send you an invite so that you can view my tree. I'm glad to share what I have that might be of interest to you.
