I am having problems placing my Byingtons (who came to Salem MASS in 1690 and moved to CT (mainly New haven county) in 1730 to the brother John Byington (who I understand was originally Boynton but the king messed his name up?) Is there a chance that William, the other brother who came, might also have had descedents who went the way of changing the last name to Byington? Or if I am a Byington is it pretty much accepted fact that he is from John? I'd love to hear about this as it's all very much confusing :)
My g g-grandfather wrote "that Boynton - now Byington - was anciently seated at Barmstead Co York England derived from Bartholemew de Boynton who was lord of the manor of Boynton in 1067 who lated went to MASS and CT"
Anything of that statement sound right? Love to hear!
