James Boys, who was also the town clerk of Rochester, was in partnership with Richard Winch in Rochester as merchant distillers and refiners, importers and dealers in foreign wines and spiritous liquors carried out at Rochester. James Boys died on 29.1.1833 and a notice dissolving the partnership was placed in the London Gazette of 30/8/1833 by his widow Eliza Simson Boys and Robert Winch, who had been appointed to administer his estate.
