Many of the emigrants used their patrynomic (son/sen) name at times and other times they adopted their former residence/farm names. Names weren't constant back then like they are now.
The church records at St. Paulus Evangelical Lutheran in Minnehaha county may have some clues where he came from in Norway. He's probably from Bøyum farm in Balestrand, Sogn og Fjordane. When did he emigrate? (found on 1900 and 1910 census)
