Funeral services for Ferdinand Braasch, pioneer resident of Nebraska, who died Thursday at his home of 507 North Eleventh Street, will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the house, and at 2:30 o'clock at the St Paul's Lutheran church, the Rev John Witt officiating.
Mr Braasch, would have been 88 years of age, 6 January, fell a week ago and broke his arm at the elbow. He became seriously ill a few days later.
He was born in New Massa, Germany, in 1849 and served as a soldier there three years. He came to America in 1878 and located in Wisconsin, but three years later came to Nebraska and homesteaded in Cuming county, ten miles north of West Point. He was married to Ernestine Goerdel in 1884, and 16 children were born to them, nine girls and seven boys. Three preceded Mr Braasch in death.
Those surviving are Edward of Sioux City; Ervin of Bloomfield; Mrs Louise Broscheit, Mrs Ida Raasch, Mrs Maria Ebeling, Mrs Rose McDaniel, all of Norfolk; Mrs ____________NL of Newcastle, Wyoming, Mrs Soren Jacobsen of Irene, South Dakota, and Mrs Fred Schmidt of Elgin; all of whom were at his bedside when death came. Burial will be in West Cedar Valley Cemetery. (ERROR!!!!! buried at St Paul's Cemetery Norfolk & New Massa should be Neu Massow).
Your relative was born in New Massow, Kreis Naugard Pomerania the son of Daniel Friedrich Braasch and Maria Unger. Ferdinand was one of 8 children.
I know the Michael Braasch you refer to in previous threads. He was in Wisconsin and married here before going to Nebraska. He must be connected somehow but I haven't been able to place him in one of our families yet.
