John Brace born Tawstock, Devon; early life - Help

I'm trying to locate _any_ details about John Brace's birthyear, baptism, siblings and his mother and father. He is born in Tawstock (clearly indicated on the censuses from 1861/1871/1881/1891), North Devon. Family lore says he was born about 1827 and he definitely died in 1909 aged 82 according to the freebmid.

I can trace him clearly from 1st February 1855 when he marries Ann Hutchins at Holne Parish Church and from this date onwards he resides in Holne (and is traceable through the census) until he dies in 1909 aged 82. His occupation is always labourer or agricultural labourer.

I think I have him on the 1841 census but unfortunately for me he isn't living with his family so it does not really help. I can't place him on the 1851 census.

His children are Mary Ann (Murch), Hannah, Elizabeth Jane (Dunn), George (my gggrandfather)and Henry.

I'm descended through George (my gggrandfather) whose eldest daughter Kate (Beeson) had four children.

You are right about lots of Braces.Ihave seen a number of Trees but am not convinced that the early Braces are right,,thinking that there appears to be 2 couples with the same names haveing kids at the same time. I have noted that I would like to see the Parish Recors myself. I do not have your line in my lot...but thats not to say with info from the Parish Records they would not meet up in the future.
Best UK place for research is Genes Reunited, lots of Brace researchers /descendents on there.

- Clif

Are you still researching Brace Family. I am descendant of Hester Jane Brace B: 1883 D:1940 In Tambo,Queensland Auatralia.
She married Mathias Lawrence McDonough and they had 5 children. One was my father Ernest.

Went to Sawbridgeworth, Herts a few months ago and found the graves of many Braces at the church...apparently there ARE still Braces in the area.

If you have any info Hester's forebears I would be grateful. Know her parents John Brace B: 1848 D: 1925 and mother Anne Tait B:1849 D: 1917...John's father was Alfred Brace B: 1873 but it begins to get cloudy as there were so very many of them living in the same area!

I would love a copy of the lineage you have. I know we have to be related to Henry Kellogg Brace but I cannot find the link. My brother and cousin look exactly like this man. My oldest ancestor that I have found is Nathan Bracy who married Esther Cleveland then her sister Celinda. Nathan's moved from Bennington VT (b. <1788> to NY eventually died in Wirt, NY. The next three generations resided in and around Steuben County until my father who was the first generation to be born in CA. Nathan is my brick wall, I would appreciate any assistance you can offer.

Thx,

April

I received a phone call that Brace researchers might be interested in.

The caller was Brian Servis, who lives in Minnesota. He said he had a piece of metal of some kind that had information regarding a Stanley Brace, who was the son of Halsey Roger Brace. This piece of metal had references to Stanley's military service, i.e., dates, places, units, etc.

The person that called me left an Email address of ServisMan1@hotmail.com

Contact at your own risk. Might be a scam----who knows.
I am searching for the parents of Arena Marie Brace - first name could be Anna but was spelled this way in the cemetery records. She was b. Nov 21, 1810 and d. Aug 15, 1896 at Lysander, Onondaga Co., NY. The records indicate that she was born in this town also but not sure of this. She married Amos Loveless just before 1830 when they had their first child, and all of their children were born at Lysander (Baldwinsville), Onondaga Co., NY.

I have seen an Elizer Brace that first settled at Pompey and later Lysander, but cannot locate any records that they had a child by this name. I would appreciate any information or suggestions of areas of further research.

Thanks,

Wayne Shepard

I am researching my mothers ' Traveller ' Surname family Tree and have 3 connecting Marriages with the Brace families of Sawbridgeworth.
The one I am currently looking into is the Marriage of Jesse Brace ( Male Christened 9 March 1817 (IGI ) ) and Hannah Brace ( Christened 3 June 1818 daught of Phillip Brace and Susanna Bassel ) .

On the IGI there is a list of 16 children of Thomas and Elizabeth Brace. It is clear that there were at least 2 couples with these Christian names at this time.

On a website called GenCircles there is a Brace Tree on which a Thomas Brace Marries an Elizabeth Chapman ( 1804 ) and has children Elizabeth ( c 1818 ), Samson( c1812), Sally (c1812), Emma(c1819),Ruth (c1818), Susanna (c1807),Gabriel( c1810) and not on the IGI that I saw, a Jane ( c21 Dec 1821 ).

From the IGI this leaves a list of: Eliza (c1818), Rose( c1820),Edmund (c1810), Elford (c 1823), James (c1804), John (c1811), JESSE (c1817).

I have a William Brace Abt 1815, Sacombe , Herts and Sarah Brace Abt 1816 Sawbridgeworth as siblings of my Jesse but would welcome confirmation.

I wonder if you have searched the Records and identified Jesse's sibling and parents certainly these families look like a devils of a puzzle to unravel.

I also welcome info on Phillip Brace and Susanna Bassel

I am pretty sure that there are still descendents of the Brace families living in Sawbridgeworth to this day..

- Clif Knight ( London

Mary Brace m to Bronson Willis in Penn

I'm looking for relatives of Mary Brace whose husband was Bronson Willis. During the 1850 census for PA they lived in Kingston with their children Thomas, Huldah, Hannah, Harriet, Sarah, George, and Amanda. Their son George was my g-g-grandfather. At that time Bronson or Brunson as it was spelled then was 52 and Mary 48. Also it seems that Mary was from New Jersey. For 1870, I found George living with his Uncle James and Aunt Hannah Brace in Dallas with their children Jacob,Benjamin, Paulina, George, Elizabeth,Martin,
Adaline, Hester, John P, And Hiram E.
I'm assuming that James was Mary's younger brother. I'd like to know who her parents were, and how many siblings she had besides James.
Darcy Brown

Ron:

I believe you sent me information many years ago, that I have shared with all my Brace relatives. My first cousin lives in Brockport near Rochester and I am going to forward the information on Lt. William to see if he can track anything down. Will let you know.

Best Regards, Barbara Ann

Nice to make contact with a cousin of sorts... Since I made my post I have discovered that my grandmother wasn't actually a Lawton. Her birth registration says she was, but her baptismal record says her father was Charles Hughes, so she and Martha are related through their mother but not their father. The Calverley website (an excellent resource so I hope you have discovered it) shows Martha and Frances Louisa, along with two sisters, baptized on the same day
1885 12 15 Priscilla LAWTON Samuel & Priscilla Park Place Rivetter 1873 08 01
1885 12 15 Sarah Anne LAWTON Samuel & Priscilla Park Place Rivetter 1875 08 03
1885 12 15 Martha LAWTON Samuel & Priscilla Park Place Rivetter 1877 12 18 .
1885 12 15 Frances Louisa LAWTON Charles Hughes & Priscilla Park Place Dressmaker 1882 10 25
Needless to say, this added a new wrinkle to my researches which were already in confusion because half the family records say Samuel Lawton and the other say David...

I am about to leave on holiday for a month - I will contact you when I return and we can share information. My Brace information doesn't go any further back than yours but I have a few records for Priscilla Wild Lawton's side of things. My grandmother, Frances Louisa, emigrated to Canada in 1909, joining my grandfather who had arrived a few months earlier.

Evelyn
I believe the Eva Brace you are looking for his my grandmother. Her parents were Joseph and Martha (nee Lawton). I have managed to research back to a Joseph Brace c.1845 married to a Jane, so hopefully it is the same family. Look forward to hearing from you.
Regards.
Tenby Wales Brace family. Contacts, lineage
My Grandfather, Ivor Brace, was from Knightston Lake Farm, Tenby, Wales. He lost his life in an air raid on 10 May 1041 in London, and was buried on the 16th of May 1941. I am not sure of the location of the cemetery, but it is in Tenby. The 22 May 1941 edition of "The Tenby and County News" had his death notice in it, and it states he was taken to 'New Hedges' before his funeral. My Grandmother lived with the Brace family for a year or so after my father's birth.

This tragic death occurred just a couple of weeks shy of Ivor marrying my grandmother, who was pregnant with my Father (David Ivor Gretton) at the time of his death. Ivor Brace was The son of Mr John Brace (His Mother's, My Great Grandmother, maiden name was Henton, but she apparently died young).
Ivor had several brothers and sisters: Brothers are Bert (& Clara) Brace, Will (& May) Brace, Fred (& Violet) Brace, Charlie (& Mary) Brace, Stan (& Amy) Brace, Howard (& Amy) Brace; and sisters: Mrs Ruby (Ruth?) Stacey (& Bob), and Ms Winnie and Archie John. Many of the first names may be knick-names.

He also had a large number of aunts and uncles with the last names of: Brace, Hill, Thomas, Richards and Morse. All the relatives apparently lived in Tenby at the time of Ivors death.

I am mostly looking for information on family members that I would like to meet during an upcoming trip to Tenby in April this year. I am spreading some on my Grandmothers remains on his grave per her wishes.

Thank you for any help,
Ron Brace, Elk River, MN
