Any info about Richard Bradberry of Virginia 1775

Hello all. I am looking for any info about a Richard Bradberry, who was part of an article By William Litchman in the National Genealogical Society Quarterly in June 2007. He is a direct ancestor of mine, and I am looking for information about his father and ancestors, particularly when he or his ancestors came to America and any anecdotes. He was born about 1775, farmed in King William County, Va. and died 1826/27, wife's name of Ann. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Are you saying that WW Bradberry made the furniture? He is my ancestor and I know nothing about him.

Did you find out about the Hugo Black connection? My grandfather E. H. Karr knew him.

Sarah Frances Bradberry was my grandmother's grandmother and apparently looked just like her.

I'm just getting started and know almost nothing, but I read somewhere that the Bradberrys are descended from Thomas and Mary Bradbury of Salisbury, MA (witch trial fame). I can't find the source. Do you know anything about this?

Thanks so much.

Re: Sloan Bradberry b. 1884, South Carolina

I could be wrong, but in the 1880 SC census, NAOMI is listed as NORNA, married to Wm. B. Bradberry, with two children, Ander 4 and Sallie 9m. If you compare the 1880 census and the 1900 census, it seems probable that this is the same person. I see in the 1900 census that SLOAN has a twin brother ORR. Naomi is listed as head of the house in 1900 but still married with 6 of 9 children still living. The 1870 SC census lists Wm. B. Bradbury living with his parents and siblings.

Good luck,

Bill Brinly, a John Brsdbury descendant.

I am also unable to find any more info on Naomi Bradberry. Therefore, I'm at a standstill with this side of my family... :( Any help would be greatly appreciated

A bit more of the puzzle pieces:
MMQ NOTE:
CULLEN BRADLEY/BRADLY s/o CULLEN BRADBURY/BRADBERRY
THERE WAS A MISTAKE MADE WHEN THE SON ENTERED INTO MILIATARY SERVICE AND HIS NAME WAS LISTED AS BRADLEY/BRADLY INSTEAD OF BRADBURY/BRADBERRY
AND HE KEPT IT THAT WAY.

http://files.usgwarchives.org/in/clay/books/travis/vol-2/p30...

HISTORY OF CLAY COUNTY 301

CAPTAIN CULLEN BRADLEY.
—Noteworthy among the venerable and
respected citizens of Harmony is Captain Cullen Bradley, who faithfully
served his country during his early manhood, and was subsequently for
many seasons closely identified with the agricultural interests of Van Buren township.

A son of Cullen Bradhury, he was born in Wayne
county, North Carolina, May 15, 1828.

His paternal grandfather, Cullen
Bradbury, Sr., a life-long resident of North Carolina, was of English
ancestry.
Born in 1792, in Wayne county, North Carolina, Cullen Bradbury
there spent his earlier life, learning while young the trades of both a
plasterer and a bricklayer, serving an apptenticeship of seven years at the
former and of three years at the latter. Migrating to Tennessee in 1835,
he there followed his trades most successfully, building the court house
and jail at Smithville and at Woodbury, and working on large buildings
in other places. Settling permanently in Wilson county, Tennessee, he
resided there until his death in 1848. His wife, whose, maiden name was
Zilpha Atkinson, was born in North Carolina and died about 1836 in
Woodbury, Tennessee. She reared five children, as follows: Cullen,
the subject of this brief biographical sketch; Curtis, who lost his life at
the battle of Buena Vista during the Mexican war; Martha; Sarah; and
Lemuel, who died at Knoxville, Tennessee, at the age of sixteen years.
*But seven years old when his parents migrated to Tennessee, Cullen
Bradley, as we now know him, was soon afterwards left motherless, and
at the age of twelve years was bound out to a farmer. Finding a good
home, he lived with his employer until 1848, when he enlisted in Company
B, Second United States Artillery. At the December muster of that
year it was found that the former clerk had made a mistake in enrolling
the names of Company B, giving the name Bradley instead of Bradbury
to the subject of this sketch, a name which he has since retained. At
the expiration of his term of five years, Mr. Bradley re-enlisted for five
years in Company D, same regiment, and when that term had expired
again re-enlisted in the same company, serving until October 23, 1861,
when he was discharged so that he might join the brigade that was being
raised by Hon. John Sherman at Mansfield, Ohio. Subsequently, when
the Sixth Ohio Independent Light Battery was organized, he was com-
missioned captain of the battery, which he commanded until February,
1865, when he was mustered out of service, During the time that he was
with his comrades Captain Bradley was acting chief of the artillery con-
nected with Woods’s division of the Army of the Cumberland, taking
an active part in all of its marches, campaigns and battles, at all times
proving himself a brave and gallant soldier. Onhis retirement from the
army he came to Van Buren township, purchased a farm, and until 1907
devoted his energies to agricultural pursuits. Disposing of his land, he

http://files.usgwarchives.org/in/clay/books/travis/vol-2/p30...
302 HISTORY OF CLAY COUNTY

then came to Harmony, where he has since resided free from active work
and cares.
Captain Bradley married, February 4, 1864, Catherine Mattayaw,
who was born in Richland county, Ohio, a daughter of Jacob and Rosanna
(Hetler) Mattayaw, her father being a native of Alsace and her mother
of Germany. The Captain and Mrs. Bradley have one child, Mary, who
married William R. Crowder, of Rockyford, Colorado, and has three
children, Rowena 0., William Cullen and Josephine. Gertrude Olive
Day, now Mrs. Ora Grimes, of Terre Haute, was a member of the
Bradley family from the age of three years until she married.

*Cullen BRADLEY [Bradbury/BRADBERRY], was NOT the son of Nancy A Kingcade/Kincaid-Bradbury. He was b:about 1828 and was 11 y/o when his father married Nancy A. Kingcade/Kincaid.

He was farmed out to Paschal P.
Cullen Bradbury/Bradberry marriage to Nancy A. Kingcade/Kincaid in 1839 TN

I am searching for Cullen Bradbury/Bradberry [had a son and father, both named Cullen Bradbury/Bradberry] who married Nancy A. Kingcade/Kincaid in Cannon Co TN [perhaps Wilson Co TN] 1839
Not sure if the son, Cullen Bradbury/Bradberry, was the son of Nancy A. Kingcade/Kincaid-Bradbury/Bradberry.

Nancy Kingcade/Kincaid brought four Kingcade/Kincaid children to this marriage:
Possible list of her children:
[1] Thomas Kingcade b: about 1828 Cannon Co TN [alive in 1868]
[?] Unknown Kingcade b: between 1828 & 1833 Cannon Co TN
[?] William J. Kingcade b: July 4, 1831 [?Cannon Co.?] TN [alive in 1868]
[4] James H. Kingcade b: 1833 Cannon Co TN [per his Obit telling he was the 4th of 8 children] [d: 1868] [James' Kingcade father died before 1833]
[5] Unknown child of step father [Bradbury] [b: after/about 1839]
[6] Unknown child of step father [Bradbury]
[7] Unknown child of step father [Bradbury]
[8] Unknown child of step father [Bradbury]
Perhaps one Bradbury child is deceased by 1847-48 because James says he promised to take care of his mother & three youngsters at the death of his step father Cullen Bradbury about 1847-48.

Only four of the eight living in 1868. per James H. Kingcade/Kincaid obit.

Nancy A. Kingcade/Kincaid-Bradbury migrates to Perry Co IL about 1850 with her son James, & Perhaps Thomas Kingcade & his wife Elizabeth Cummings-Kingcade.
We find those three in the subsequent census & tax lists Perry Co IL.

1852 Nancy Ann Bradberry marries Charles T. Duncan , Franklin County IL- which borders Perry County IL [note sp of Bradberry]

Any ideas or suggestions for my search for Cullen Bradbury/Bradberry history is welcome [or the rest of this family]....
Margaret [mema] Messer Quick
rmemazz@charter.net

Bradberry/Murchison in Arkansas

In 1893, a William H. Murchison married an Annie Bradberry (Bradbury) in Tennessee. In 1920, they were living in Arkansas (Mississippi Co, Blytheville City) with a William H. Bradbury listed as their nephew. Does anyone have any information about this family, where William H. Bradbury came from to live with them, and how he is the nephew? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Robert and Sarah (Manery) Bradberry

Hello,

I am trying to learn more about Robert and Sarah Bradberry and their children. I know that they had at least 4 girls, Sarah who married John R. Harlan(d), Maryann, Nancy, and Alevia. I saw in a 1850 census that Robert and Sarah had two teenagers living with them, a J and a F. So I know that they had more children besides the girls. Plus, a William Bradberry(age 19) lived with Sarah Harlan and John R Harlan with their family in an 1850 census. I think this William is Sarah's brother. Also, I recently discovered that Robert and Sarah had a son named Edward Francis, this could be the F. in the census? My fiance is a descendant from William Bradberry and I am trying to get as much information as possible. Thank you!

Keklammer

Martha Bradberry/bury Polk Co., Missouri 1800s

Here's my mystery family: My gggrandmother, Sarah Jane Chadwell was b. Aug 1866 in Brighton, Polk Co., MO. Her brother, William Samuel Chadwell, was b. Dec. 1869 in San Antonio, Bexar Co., TX, according to his family. (I have no proof of either of these births, if I did, I would know their parents names!) These children had a sister or half-sister, Ida Ann, who was shot by James Gaylor in 1872 in Polk County, MO and the parents were listed as Martha and William Chadwell. I have a marriage certificate from Bolivar for Martha Bradberry and William Chadwell on March 28, 1870, so that is confirmed. William's deposition after Ida was shot states that Martha had Ida before he married her, therefore, she was either from a previous marriage or illegitimate. The other children were also born before this marriage, so I don't know if he was married before, or she was, or they stole some children in the night and passed them off as theirs!
In 1850 the only Bradberry living in Polk County, MO was a 2-year old William Bradberry, living with Reuben and Mary Gaylor, the parents of James Gaylor. There is no sign of Martha and she should have been about 5. It can't be a coincidence that the Gaylor's and Bradberry's are so closely tied, unless they are related somehow. I think this is the connection, but haven't been able to prove it. The father of Mary Gaylor, nee Goldston, had two sisters who married Bradberry's, but I can find no record of children from these marriages. It doesn't mean there were none, it's just hard to find them because they were so long ago!
In the 1860 Census of Polk Co., MO Martha Bradberry was 15, wasn't married and didn't have any kids. She was living with an Adison Low and family as a servant or housekeeper in Polk County. Some distant relatives of mine suggest that she may have married a Rule (Ruhle, Ruhl, Ruyle or a hundred other spellings), I have never found any useful clues along these lines, but it was between census years. The Ruyle name also fits with the Gaylor/Goldston family.
I traced William Samuel's side of the family down just so I could find out what story was passed down to his descendants and it is virtually the same. His granddaughter says that the mother, Martha, died fairly young of ovarian cancer or something similar not long after Sarah got married. I know she was alive in 1882, because she gave permission for Sarah to get married to John Bryan in Pleasant Hope. By 1900 there is no one left in Missouri. Sarah ended up in Washington state and William (jr.) moved to Colorado. The father disappeared somewhere along the line.
In the 1880 Census, Martha (Bradberry) Chadwell was living with a John Brown and family, and several other people, some of whom are listed as insane. While there is a story that they all lived in the poorhouse until Sarah Chadwell was 8, that would have been around 1874, not 1880. In 1880, Sarah is living with John Emlet and family, and Samuel (William jr.) is living with Nathaniel Wilson's widow, Sarah Wilson, and family. Sarah Wilson's home is where the marriage of Sarah Chadwell and John Bryan took place.

I would appreciate ANY leads with this. I have been searching for years!
7-20-08

In working on my Bradberry genealogy I came across a posting that you made a few years ago in reference to Eli and John Marion Bradberry. Given that for several weeks I have been researching my Bradberry predecessors....and not with too much successs.....promited me to ask if you have collected any information about
either of these people....and their descendants that you might care to share.

All I have on Eli and his wife is their birth and death dates. I am trying to "work from Eli" up to my maternal great grandfather Christopher Columbus Bradberry, 1829-1863 (married Marietta Crow b. 1836) and had six children, so far as I know: Vandelia Bradberry (1864)who married James Andrew Kile (my masternal great grandparents)....then I have Mary Francis Bradberry 1866-1876, L.Y., J.E., I.V., Paul, J.A., A.B. Jacob, J.W. and Lonnie. Don't know who was a father and/or brother.

Would greatly appreciate any kind of information that you might be able to share relative to any of the above

George Hyde (gahbellelai@earthlink.net)

Am looking for information on Eli Brqdberry ( both his predecessors and those decended from him. My Eli (my ggfather) was born in 1808-d. 1847, married Louisa Bartlet.

Later Bradberry's of interest to me are: Christopher CFolumbus Bradberry, F.W.,John M., Mary, L.Y., J.E. , I.V., Jacob and J.W. Also working on Vandelia Badberry 1854-1919, Josie and Daisy Bradberery, and Carrie Christopher Bradberry....all I have at the moment is a name and birth dates. Also would like to get the full names of those idenfied (at the present time) only by initials. Any help that a Bqadberry "cousin" can give to help me complete the Bradberry branch of my family tree will be appreciated.

George Hyde (gahbelleair@earthlink.net)

In searching different genealogical sites on the internet I came across your name and your reference to Eli Bradberry b. 1808. My maternal great grandfather was Eli Bradberry (m. Louisa Bartlet). I have been hitting my head against the genealogical wall for months tryingn to find more information about Eli and Lousia, but with little luck. I have a list of Bradberry predecessors, with birth and death dates, but liottle more --i.e. Christopher Columbus Bradberry, F.W., John M., Mary, L.Y., J.E., J.W. and the six children of Eli and Louisa. with birth and death dates.....but little more. Also I don't know the full names of the initalized Bradberry's (F.W., J.E. and J.W.) I
s there any possibility that you have more detailled and additdional information about these people. Would be grateful for anything you can share.

George Hyde, gahbelleair@earthlink.net

Don't forget the KY Bradburys. My fourth great grandfather, John Bradbury, came to the US in 1809 from England. He had a number of children. A daughter Mary married my third great grandfather, John Brinly, in 1820 in Jefferson County, KY. A son, Henry Bradbury, married John Brinly's sister Eve. There are Bradbury descendants still living in the area.

I certainly agree with Rudy about the spelling issue. I have a copy of a page from my greatgradparents' family bible on which the family name is spelled three different ways (Bradberry, Bradbury, Bradbery). Regardless of spelling, I am becoming more and more convinced that there were several unrelated Bradberry/Bradbury families who immigrated to America. It may be that DNA is the only way to sort us out.

Aunt Shirley I found her on the 1900 Census. It shows her born around 1889 in Arkansas. I also found another sibling named Henry J born 1891 in Arkansas, Aaron was also on the census, and so was the father John Thomas. All from Waveland, Yell Arkansas. I did not see anything on Louvenia.
I also came across Adam Andrews Born1806 who maried Martha Lambert 1828, (1860 & 1880 Census). They had a bunch of kids including a John Thomas in alabama in 1865. Could be the same one. If this is the case than Adams father was Nimrod H Andrews Born 1780 Virginia. Might want to check this out.
