Im related to Bradford through my dads parents. William Bradford has been traced to former union general George B. McClellan in the American Civil War through his wife, Rachel Abbe, George McClellan JR., mcclellans son. His wife was the descendant of Bradford and I'm related to George JR. through WW1 service of my grandmas grandfather. Long story....

Thank you so much for this information. I have a person working on finding documents for me in Allegany County and other places where Norman and Jane Bradford Lawrence lived. This is good information to put the pieces together for me making a connection with William Bradford. Do you have further information regarding my Lawrence background?
Respectfully,
John Lewis

Hello..just to let you know. William (1557-1597) married Alice Hanson (1562-1597); they were the parents of Wm. Bradford (1589-1657), who was baptized on Mar 19, 1589 by Rev. Henry Fletcher (Family Bible info), and married Dorothy May Dec 10, 1613 whom died Dec 17, 1620 of "The grip" (Pneumonia), then married Alice Carpenter on Aug 14, 1623 whom died Mar 26, 1670 of complications of wound. (We are thinking "lock-jaw" or Tetinus. Dorothy and Wm. son was John Bradford, 1618-1679) and Wm. and Alice's children were Wm June 17, 1624-Feb 29, 1703) married Mary Atwood; Mercy Bradford 1626-1657) and Joseph Bradford 1630-July 10, 1715.

My brother and I, and now another distant cousin, have created a genealogy chart, going back to 1435. There are pictures of so many of our relatives and homes too.

Alice Hanson's parents were John Hanson and Margaret Gressam Hanson. Alice was born in Austerfield, Eng., 1562 and died in the same town in 1597. she was baptized on Dec. 8, 1562 at St. Helen's church. She was buried on May 23, 1562 in Austerfield.

I have several Sarah Bradford's...one listed in 1706, however; that doesn't seem to be the one you are looking for. To whom was she married?

I can walk you backwards on some of our ancestors if you wish to give me what info you need. I have found a copy of the family Bible, located in Kansas. The person in posession of the Bible has been kind enough to copy some of the pages for me. My family also lives in Michigan and they have been checking the cemeteries and we have a plethora of pictures of grave markers also. Please contact me if you wish further information that I might have.

Regards

Hello Kathlene,
I am concentrating on my Bradford connection to the Gov. William Bradfords' parents, and his sons to the recent, a very daunting task, but fun anyway.

So, from my mothers side, looking to go further, anyone have information on maybe Ephraim Hill(b.Feb. 6, 1768,in Williamsburg,Hampshire,Ma. & Sarah Bradford, b.March 15,1768,died Dec.28,1843.

I believe this may be my first introduction to the Bradford family, including both William Bradford Maj.(b.June 17,1624, Plymouth, Ma. died either Dec.or Feb. 20,1703,who was the son of the Governor William Bradford of the Plymouth Bay Colony. (He sailed on the Mayflower over here)

The Governor William's father was also named William Bradford, who was married to Alice Hanson, but that's all I have.

Does anyone have any charts or links of this family tree they wish to share? I would be very appreciative indeed! Thank you!

Hello,
I have researched back to William Bradford and am fairly certain I am also a direct descendant. My grandfather was the son of Norman Lawrence and Jane Bradford Lawrence, who was the daughter of Simeon, son of Wait, son of Ephraim, son of Major Bradford, son of Gov.William Bradford. I just need to get verification of the birth, marriage, death records of Norman Lawrence, his son(my grandfather) Orrin Lawrence and then my mother Lilith Lawrence, then me. Do you have any information on this or a place to look. I believe Norman Lawrence and Jane Bradford were married in 1838 in Turner, Androscoggin, Maine. Thank you, John

BRADFORD of Austerfield - Lincolnshire link anyone ? also Derbyshire and Leicestershire ?

Hello Group
I'm new to the Group, I've had my DNA tested and that has resulted in a likely BRADFORD cross-match; it could link my BRADFORD family at Corringham-Gainsborough, Lincolnshire with the family at Austerfield village south of Doncaster, just ten miles down the road ! and to nearby counties.

My earliest [definite] BRADFORD is William BRADFORD b.1794 Corringham m.Ann ANDREW 1814. William's father was Samuel BRADFORD b.1765 at Wigston/ Loughborough, m.Deborah BRADFORD [his cousin?] in 1790 at Wigston/ Loughborough.
Deborah's father was George BRADFORD of Bradby, Derbyshire.
So my links between BRADFORD families at Lincolnshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire could all link to the BRADFORD family at Austerfield, Yorkshire.

I think George and Deborah are descended from Edward BRADFORD of Owston c.1676, village north of Doncaster.

Has anyone any links between the these families ?
Thanks for any help you can offer.
William [in England]

Bradfords m. Hamiltons. Who were the Hamiltons?

David Bradford and 4 of his 5 sons were married to Hamilton women, according to our family lore.

I descend from David through George (NC), then James S. (GA).

Did David or George name a son "Hamilton?"

James S. named a son John Hamilton Bradford, who married 1st Anna Butler and moved to Arkansas around 1852-1853.

John Hamilton named a son Joseph Hamilton Bradford (b. GA-d. AR).

John Hamilton had a daughter named Alice Jane (b. GA-d. AR), who married H.C. Emerson. They named their oldest son Hamilton Emerson; he died in childhood.

John Hamilton had a son named Francis Simeon (my great grandfather, (b. AR-d. AR). He named his oldest son John Hamilton; he died unmarried.

There are no other Hamiltons in my Francis Simeon line that I know of.

I wonder how many "Hamilton" Bradfords there were, and if we could string them all together, would they support the family story of the 4 Bradford brothers and the 4 Hamilton women. Were they sisters?

Does anyone know what the relationship was of Margaret Hamilton (wife of David) to the wives of her 4 sons?

This also begs the question ... what, if anything, is the effect of these marriages on the DNA project? I should think that could be very interesting.

A card-carrying "Hamilton" Bradford,
K. Knight

Henry Bradford/Seaborn Bradford

I am searching for info on any and all Henry Bradfords that have lived in GA/AL/MS areas between the 1800-1900s. Deeper reasearch into the marraige of my ancestor Seaborn, I found that a Henry Bradford signed the marriage liscenses. This occured on 28 Oct 1855 in Chambers County Alabama. Five years later a Henry Bradford lived in Scott County, MS with his children "close to where Seaborn's wife and child lived with her parents. Please, if any one can help me on this. Seaborn was born in GA abt 1834 as was his parents. This Henry might be the father or Uncle or other close adult relative of my ancestor. Before this record Seaborn did not seem to exist. My thought is that at becoming an adult he started to go by a name other than the one that his parents used.

Bradfords of MN, IA, and England

My grandmother is a Bradford.

I was told that the family of Bradfords from which I originate is from Yorkshire, but I'm not certain as there are three cities in England named Bradford. These Bradfords were tailors by trade.

Henry J. Bradford b. March 1854 and Amelia E. Boning Bradford b. July 1857 are my great-great grandparents. I found their Ellis Island/Southampton ship record from 1894, which happened to be at least their second trip across the Atlantic dating June 23, 1894 aboard the Paris. They were traveling with Thomas J. Bradford (age 41) who was Henry's (age 40) brother, and their three U.S. born children, one of which was my 12-year-old great grandfather, Harry Thomas Boning Bradford (age 12). The 1900 census records state that the three children were born in Iowa. Harry had a sister, Mable R. (age 11), and a brother, Richard J (age 8). they are listed in the 1900 cencus as living in Mantorville, MN, Dodge Co.

Harry Bradford and my great grandmother, Ida May Christion, lived in West Concord, MN where Harry was a barber. West Concord is where my grandmother was born in 1910. Ida was from the Dakota Territory - her father was Theodore Christion from Denmark (I. 1877) who owned a bookstore, her mother, Margaret Stussie, was born in Wisconsin to German speaking Swiss. Harry and Ida had 7 children. If you can find one of the male decendents, my far off distant male cousins with the Bradford last name should have a direct DNA match. I think most of them still live in Southern MN.
Trying to fill branch of my family tree (Bertha Gernaux)

Hello distant relatives!

I was named after my great grandfather Albert F. Woods, who was President of the University of Maryland. Upon researching him through the University, I found out a couple years ago that his wife (my great grandmother) Bertha Gernaux was "directly decended" from William Bradford. THIS WAS PREVIOUSLY UNKNOWN TO MY FAMILY, and needless to say, we are all quite proud to have such a great man in our family tree.

Unfortunately, besides that we do not know the line of the Gernaux family, or even the names of Bertha's parents. Does anyone have information that might help me connect the dots?

Much appreciated,

Adam Woods

I am trying to research my great-great grandfather, John G. Bradford. He married "Matilda", possibly in Michigan, and they were the parents of Montaque, Charles, Maude and possibly a "Roderick" Bradford. They later moved to Minnesota. I have Montaque's (he was my great-grandfather) obituary, and I'm waiting on an obit and death certificate on Matilda. Does this ring a bell with anyone?
