Hello, I believe the certificate you refer to is my great grandfather, Samuel Josiah Bradwell. He married my great-grandmother. Their son, Samuel Ernest Bradwell married Maggie Ridgway, also from Manchester. The emigrated to Canada, and had two daughters: Audrey (my mother) and Nancy. If you still have that certificate I would certainly be pleased if you could send it to me. My name is Barbara Hill.

Thank you once again John,
I am still looking for information on the Canadian side of the Bradwell family. There are lots of them, must have escaped from the Valleys.

Do you know of any person who has researched, photographed and catalogued the Graveyards of:-
(1) Saint Barnabas (1868), Church Street, Bradwell, Derbyshire, England.
(2) Primitive Methodist Chapel (1845) Hugh Lane, Bradwell, Derbyshire, England.
(3) Wesleyan Methodist Church (1807), Town Gate, Bradwell, Derbyshire, England.

Both (2) and (3) overlook Saint Barnabas

If I was living there I most certainly would have done so, hence there must be others like me of the same mind as my family originate from Bradwell.

If visiting then be warned that the latter two, are situated on narrow steep lanes.

Pete
From sunny Stockport pete708@yahoo.com

Best of luck with your research. Mine was due to two great uncles marrying Bradwell sisters. Did quite a bit of digging and the results are on the web at...
http://www.thehendrys.freeserve.co.uk/FHistory/hendtxt/bradw...
.... if you haven't already stumbled across it.
Don't think there is anything particular relevant to your own research but it is a whiles since I did it all so...
All the best
John

Thank you John,
Ten years at my age does not appear to make much difference these days.
Your response is good enough for me. I will await with eager anticipation. Can't hold by breath as I need all that I can get.
I am now researching the travels of George Horatio Bradwell and siblings to Montreal/Quebec, Canada. (Immigration and visits 1905-1926)
I am researching any Bradwell originating from Bradwell Derbyshire as the Hills around there were not high enough to corral them all and some run over them thar Hills to Sheffield,Manchester and beyond.
This tree is going to take a number of years yet before I think it could be good enough to open to the public.
If you want any help with the Bradwell tree I shall oblige.
Take care.

I am afraid this offer was made 10 years ago and although I have had a look I cant find the certificate refered to. It is probably somewhere in amongst my extremely random filing system but as of yet I have not been able to locate it. As it wasn't relevant to my research I was probably less diligent with it. Sorry, but I will keep looking and if I do come across it I will email it on.
Haven't had time to look at the rest yet and busy weekend ahead but I will have a quick peruse to see if I can help in any way
All the best
John Hendry

Hello Richard
Have CLIXBY connections through Charlotte Ann b.1855 in Hull. Her father Thomas was b.1812 in Southorpe, Lincs.
While researching my own branch of the family I had to sift through lots of other CLIXBYs so decided to put them all in family groups. It's a sort of one name study but it is far from complete.
Your family descend briefly from John CLIXBY b.@1739 down via John CLIXBY b. 1775 Gainsborough, Lincs down via Benjamin CLIXBY b. @1809 Gainsborough, Lincs
down via William CLIXBY b. 1832 Gainsborough, Lincs
down to John Jackson CLIXBY b. 1860 Ecclesfield, Yorks.
What is the best format for me to send details to you?
Bradwell family Liverpool

My gg grandmother was Catherine Bradwell, born in c1842 Liverpool to John Bradwell, occupation blacksmith. At the time of her marriage to David Ross in 1868, she was living in Crosby, Liverpool. In the 1871 census, she is listed in Toxteth Park with husband David, mother-in-law Mary Ross, son Charles age 2, and a lodger named Mary BRAWELL, born in Ireland, age 71 (I think). Not sure if this Mary BRAWELL is a relative, but it's possible that the surname was misspelled. In 1881, she is listed with son Charles, daughters Mary and Catherine, and husband David, still in Toxteth Park (Darnley Court). No trace in the 1891 census, though perhaps in the 1901 census she is living with daughter MARIA, now married to Thomas Cook, living in Everton, Liverpool. Unconfrimed.

I'm interested in finding the origins of a second Bradwell, namely a Charles J. Bradwell listed in the 1871-1891 censes in Toxteth Park. Occupation, shopkeeper/provisioner.

Charles Ross, son of David Ross and Catherine Bradwell, married a Louisa Martin in 1898. Witnesses to the marriage are listed as C. Bradwell and E. Bradwell. The Charles J. Bradwell mentioned in the preceding paragraph was married to an Ellen King...not sure if there is a connection, but would be interested in hearing from anyone with regards to any of the names mentioned above.
Thanks, Edie.

Dear Jean

AMAZING :-) I am quite speachless.

A Word doc file is OK for me. Is that possible?

Gainsborough has got to be correct, because my mum, who is now 83yrs remembers, and we have photos, that as a little girl she went to stay with her Grand parents at a small village called Beckingham, and this is about 4 Mls from Gainsborough.
So for this side of our family you have just filled in some incredible space.

Thanks a million.

When I get your info, I'll feed back to you with our current info if you wish?

Best regards
Richard Turner and my mum, Betty Turner nee Clixby

Thank you once again.

I have a couple of questions.

Did you get all this info from one source, or have you compiled it?
Did you want to have all our family info from John Jackson Clixby to today?

Lastly. Where are you? I live near Brussels, Belgium. My Mother still lives in Retford, Notts which is where I grew up. Our part of the Clixby family is scattered all over the planet now. UK, Spain, Australia, France, Channel Islands etc.

Once again many thanks
Best regards
Richard

Trying to trace anything concerning my Great Grand parents Alice Jane Bradwell married to John Jackson Clixby. They lived in Midhope Stones, Derbyshire. Guess they were married approx 1870/80. They had five children. Mary, Theresa, Eunice, Luther and my Grandfather, Fred William.

Saw your message Board. The city of Albany, NY Directory of 1915 lists Oliver Bradwell as a resident. But surely you did not mean that Joseph married Oliver??? There were about 5 Bradwell's in this area in 1915.
Any other names?

Thank you. Do not know much more. John died with no known relatives, except his wife, Martha (Burke) Bradwell, and his son, George (approx. 4 at time of John's death). There apparently were Bradwell's in the Rensselaer County area as well as Albany, NY. Martha subsequently remarried into the Ginter family, but George was never formally adopted by the Ginter's and retained the name Bradwell. I am trying to work backwards to learn more about John Bradwell's geneology. Thanks for your help.
Hi Patricia
Sorry - no obvious links here. The Bradwells on my tree are descended from Joseph Arthur Bradwell of Buxton bn 1882. No William, Ida or John i'm afraid.
I found a William born abt 1877 in the 1881 Census in Church Gresley. His older brother was a coal miner. Think this is too far back to be your Grandfather but the location is right.
Let me know if you want more info.
Regards Steve

Read your message whilst searching for info on other Bradwells. I have got a marriage certificate for a Samuel Josiah Bradwell aged 21 marrying a Elizabeth Nancy Monks aged 22 in Chorleton, Lancashire on 25th October 1875. Samuel is listed as a grocer, address - 120 Hyde Street, Ardwick, and his father is recorded as Josiah Bradwell. Elizabeth is listed as living at 13 Clayton Lane, Openshaw and her father is recorded as William Monks, a mechanical draughtsman. I got this certificate in error and if it is any significance or use to you I will gladly e-mail you a scanned copy or send you it via old fashioned mail.
- John Hendry
