"FRANCIS T. BRADY, COL. USAF (Ret.)
World War II Veteran
Retired U.S. Air Force Colonel FRANCIS T. BRADY, 88, died August 26, 2005 from injuries suffered in an automobile accident.
His life was celebrated in a September 2 wake at his Middleburg home and during a September 3 Mass of the Resurrection at St. Stephen the Martyr's Catholic Church. He will be buried with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery on November 4.
Col. Brady was born January 21, 1917 in Chicago, IL. He graduated from Niagara University in 1939 and joined the U.S. Army Air Corps. He married Marion Florence in Honolulu, HA in 1941 where they later witnessed the attack on Pearl Harbor. She died in the mid-1970's.
Col. Brady was a B-17 pilot and squadron commander, seeing action at the Battle of Midway and at Guadalcanal in the Solomon Islands during World War II. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross with Oak Leaf Cluster and serveral air medals.
He retired from the Air Force in 1961 and began a career with the Civil Service with the Naval Supply Systems Command. He retired in 1979.
Col. Brady married Celeste Hebb in 1978 and moved to Long Beach, CA, where he advocated for the rights of the developmentally challenged. After his wife died in 2003, Col. Brady returned to Middleburg. He was an avid golfer.
His son, Capt. Francis T. Brady, Jr., died in 2004.
Survivors include his son, William J. Brady of Arlington, his daughter Anne B. Adams of Round Hill, VA; two sisters, Mary B. Dekan and Patricia Hennis, and four grandchildren.
Arrangements were made by Royston Funeral Home of Middleburg."
