Edward Belton Brady (E. B. Brady, Sr.)

Edward Belton Brady is my paternal GF (b. 3-7-1875 in Laurel, Jones County, MS). His mother was possibly a Haden or Heydon (possibly Sarah or Sophona or Sophrona. My GF was placed in an orphanage, I believe in Mississippi or Tennessee, and ran away at 13 to 15 years of age (1888-90?)to his aunt, determined to be Isabella (Bell) Haden Wedgeworth (James Marion Wedgeworth) in Bandera, Texas (all appear on 1910 Census). I have always heard that his mother and father were never married (father was already married with family). We now believe that we may be descendants of Christopher Columbus Brady (1848-1922, whose parents were John T. Brady (1808-1885) and M. Hitchinson (1814-1887) and, therefore, Hugh Brady (1709-1783). Would like to hear from someone from C.C.Brady line. My paternal line ends with my GF right now. Any help will be appreciated.
P.S. My dad, my brother, my nephew all have deep chin clefts. Brady family trait? Picture of C.C. Brady online appears to have same feature. Also, at time my GF was placed in orphanage b/c mother could not support him, C.C.Brady moved his family from Mississippi to Colorado.

Re: Looking for descendants of Cyrus Townsend Brady

Hello Elizabeth --

There are loads of descendants of CT. He was my great uncle and I have had some conversations about family history etc., with his great grandson, Town Brady. In fact there was a whole Brady reunion in Pennsylvania last week. The first of our clan to come to America was Hugh Brady who arrived on these shores along with his future wife Hannah McCormick about 1730.

One place you might look for geneology/family tree info is on the website the reunion organizers maintain: http://www.bradyheritage.org/
Right now there are a few link/computer errors on the website, so it doesn't work as well as it should, but I hope it will be up an running before too long.

CT was also an author of some renown a hundred years ago. One of his most famous books was "Indian Fights and Fighters," a quite readable and fairly well balanced account of the plains Indian wars with the US in the late 1800's. It's recently been reprinted by the University of Nebraska Press.

Anyway, if you'd like I can put you in touch with Town Brady. Just send me an e-mail at my regular e-mail address:
bradyhugh@aol.com

Hope to talk to you soon,
Hugh
Re: James J Brady of Kosc. Co., Indiana

I am not related but I just did a little research on this family for someone else. I found James Brady in the 1850, 1860, and 1880 census in Elkhart Co., IN and his wife Margaret in 1900 census in Elkhart Co. In 1850 James was with Citura and James McCann which I assume were his mother and step-mother. Listed above them were Dan (24) and Nancy (20) which could possible be an uncle to James. Above them were James (61) and Nancy (67) Brady. I believe they were the grandparents of James Brady. I looked in Ohio in the 1820, 1830, and 1840 census and found a James Brady in Ross Co., OH.

I looked at the Indiana State library's web site and found in marriages to 1850 a Kitora Brady and James McKain who married in May 17, 1849 in Elkhart Co. James's younger sister, Sarah, was 5 in 1850 so it appears James' father died between 1845 and 1849??

Also, Ross Co., OH marriages show:
Brady, Alexander Funk, Kiturah May 7, 1839
Brady, Ann McCray, Samuel Jul 2, 1818
Brady, Benjamin Crusin, Sarah Jan 23, 1817
Brady, Elizabeth Clark, Samuel Jun 20, 1818
Brady, James Watson, Nancy Sep 10, 1814
Brady, Robert Scott, Catharine Aug 11, 1814

Notice the marriage for ALexander Brady and Kiturah Funk and also the one for James Brady and Nancy Watson. These could be the ones you are looking for.

would you happen to have a thomas james or james thomas brady from the new haven area who married a maggie Mcgrath. Maggie was born in Westport CT supposedly and they had a daughter by the name of Florence Edna Brady (my great grandmother) born in New Haven in 1887. She married Albert Knop. She died on October 1973 and is buried in Walnut Grove Cemetary. I do not know if she has other siblings. I also had seen when I was younger a black and white family reunion photo with a couple of priests and nuns in it. My grandfather was Stanley Paul Sokolowski and he married Hazel Knop (my grandmother - Florence was her mother.

Frank Amay Brady was born in Washington abt 1868 and his wife, Margaret Tipton was born abt 1874 in New Mexico. Therefore, I do not believe that they are related to Sheriff William Brady. The only possibility would be that maybe his father was the brother to William Brady? Sheriff Brady had four brothers: Phillip, Patrick, John, and Peter.
I could not locate Frank Brady before 1910 in any census, he probably was moving from place to place.

I found them in the following census:

1910 - Cherry Valley, Mora, New Mexico
1920 - Watrous, Mora, New Mexico
1930 - Las Vegas, San Miguel, New Mexico

On all three census, it showed that Frank was born in Washington; his father was born in New York or Ireland; and his mother born in Ireland

Children:
Clarice b. in Colorado 1894

Frank b. 1897 in Colorado

Tipton Amay b. 8 Jun 1899 in Colorado; d. 29 July 1980,Los Angeles, California (1930 - in Dominguez, Los Angeles, California; m. abt 1925 to Elsie)

Alma B. b. 3 Sep 1901 in New Mexico; d. 15 Mar 1995 in Newbury Park, Ventura, California

Robert Lyle b. 9 Jul 1910 in New Mexico; d. 16 Nov 1996 in
Kern Co., California

Hope this information helps you.........

Roberto Brady (son of Sheriff Brady) had two children (I believe): William (who had 9 children) and John (who had at least one). Are you related to either of these two children, or did Roberto have more than two children?

Elnora Brady who married James McFadden is my gg grandmother also. She is buried in Bloomfield Cem. in Jay County Indiana with a couple of her children. I am descended from Mary McFadden, her daughter. Mary married William F. Smith and their only child was Homer H. Smith. His son Ralph Smith was my father. I have copies of old letters written during the Civil War from Elnora's sister Caroline Van Gosen and a niece. I think that Elnora's mother was a Mary Smith and Joshua Brady. They lived in Maryland. The letters were from Maryland and West Virginia. I hope you are still looking for information as I am also looking for information also. Several of Homer's 10 children are still living. One of my aunts has done much research, but doesn't have much about Elnora.

I am looking for information similarily related but concerns Francis Marion Brady b1842 who had my gr-grandfather Nat Brady b1870.
I've seen censuses from AR and TN of Francis M Brady but think it is two different persons. Could they be one and the same? Do you have information regarding him or maybe another member. My line ends there. Francis married a Martha Piles at one time - I don't know of any brothers or sisters.
With Nat Brady his sons were - Irvin BRady, Sheridan Brady b1917 (my grandfather), Ruth Brady, Frank T. Brady.
Any clues would be of help. I've seen James Brady on a few censuses and trying to tie him in too.

Yes! You've strung together a few things that I *thought* was right, but didn't have the data to back up. My grandmother used to say we were related to some Watson families, but I wasn't sure how. Now, it all makes sense.
James father had died before their 3rd child was born, and Citura remarried to James McCain. Of course, the spelling was always different depending on how it sounded to the person writing. Beside James's gravesite it a headstone that just reads "Mother", and beside that is a stone for Alexander Brady. Thank you for checking into it!!!

Hi Hugh - Just stumbled upon your history of CTB who was my great grandfather. I am daughter of Margaret Gleason, who was daughter of Susan Elizabeth Brady, second oldest child of CTB. How are you going with your searches? I live in Australia, which was coincidentally, one of the favourite places of CTB's oldest son, CTB, Jr, whom I knew and called Uncle Townsend. He loved both Melbourne & Sydney and he visited us in Hawaii often. I grew up in Hawaii and sailed to Australia in the 60's and settled here. Just love it, too. Write if you need any info. Cheers, Elizabeth Burns

John Brady of NYC

I am looking for any information on my great-great grandfather, John Brady. He was most likely born in New York sometime between 1850 and 1860. He would eventually marry a woman by the maiden name of Margaret Dunlop. They would have five or six children together (I believe one would die very young). Four of them were Elizabeth (killed by car in NYC in the 1930's), Peter, John Jr. (WWI Vet), and Jean (my great grandmother). I found them in the 1900 and 1910 Census. In 1900, they were living in the Bronx and in 1910 on 123rd Street. However, in the 1920 census Margaret was widowed and living in Brooklyn. Thus, John Brady (the correct one died sometime between 1910 and 1920. I searched and searched and searched at the NYC municipal archives for his death certificate and could find nothing! Not his marriage certificate, burial records, real estate records (he rented), obituary, passport, or any kind of record dealing with this man can be found anywhere. I know a lot about Margaret and her family, but nothing about John Brady. Since I know so little, I cannot trace back his side of the family even further since I do not even know the name of his parents. I am hoping that there is other descendants out there somewhere that may be able to provide more information. If you are somehow related to me or know about John Brady, could you please contact me. I will put out my e-mail address (which I would prefer you contact me at) in the hopes that someone out there knows more. Please contact me at peter_tree70@hotmail.com if you know anything else. Thank you.

Re: Brady DNA site

Thank you for considering taking a DNA test. It will help a lot of families. Right now the cost is resonable at 33 markers for $79.00. Or the 44 markers for more.

At the top of Ancestry's page is a DNA button. Push that and it will take you to the DNA pages. There it will tell you about DNA testing and what you will learn from your DNA. It also has a place where you can ask for a surname group and then you can join the Brady group. If you have problems, get back with me.

We have found several distant relatives and also one that is within three generations. I would like to see more testing to see if we can find more relatives of John Spencer Brady.

Thanks again.
Shirley

Brady DNA site

The Brady DNA site is active and growing; but still needs more contributors. I would like to see a Brady male from the Lewis Brady of NC and the Bradys of Moore and Chatham County, NC. Or the Georgia Bradys.

We have found lots of family lines. Check us out and have your DNA tested.

Thanks.
