John M. Bragg, Company F, 44th Regiment, Infantry, VA, died Sept. 2, 1861. He entered & left as a private. His National Archives & Records Administration number is M382 roll 6. This regiment was organized in June 1861 with men from Richmond, Farmville, Appomattox, Buckingham, Louisa, Goochland, Amelia, Fluvanna & Hanover counties. They reported 2 killed & 17 wounded at McDowell, VA.He is one of 85 confederate soldiers buried in a field in Monterey. The field is to be turned into a community park. We are looking for living relatives of John M. Bragg to invite to the opening of the park. A small marker is to be placed on each of the known graves. At the gate, a large marker with the info on all 85 is to be placed for all visitors to view.
