Valentine (Valton/Valentin) BRAHM was born in 1860, lived in Sheboygan, WI in the 1870 Sheboygan Census, son of Valton, who emigrated from Germany probably 1855-1860. My Valentine had a sister Mary, who married unknown Ashman, she was born 1864 in IL - her brother Valentine in 1860 WI - so it looks as thought within ten years of emigrating, they moved from WI to IL and stayed. Mary Ashman and her husband show in the 1880 Chicago census, with brother-in-law Valentine living with them. I would suggest looking in the WI censuses 1860-1880 and sorting them all out - there are a lot of Brahms in the area, all recently emigrated from Bremen, Germany, and are all very likely related.(the name Valton as a first name is a common one, worth looking into) I don't have much more than that, as the BRAHM family married into my SCHMITT family, but not a direct line, as Valentine married the sister of my ggmother. Let me know how you make out - I think you're on the right track, and it is a relative of mine. Glad to help out when you need it!!!!
