my great great great grandmother catherine brahm married adam caspary in villmar. They migrated to Milwaukee in eighteen fifty one, where catherine died one monthe later probably from diffuculties suffered in childbirth. A son, Anton, died one week later. Catherine is burried in the Englesburg cemetery located on Appleton Ave. in Milwaukee. Before marrying Adam Caspary, Catherine was married to Martthias Gross, who was killed when his team of horses backed into him impaling him to the door of his barn. There was one son born to this couple by name of John who would be the first of the Caspary family to travel to Milwaukee in eighteen forty-eight. My name is Kathy Carlton.

A previous Brahm thread I posted in 2001 carried an old email address. My address changed to mhoerig@qi.rr.com about that same time but current lists keep showing the old address.

I have information on nearly a thousand Brahms in my data base and will share all if I know you are interested. Note, I have never seen any emails that went to the old address.
Re: Henri (Henry) Brahm Gravesite

I have a copy of a letter written by Henry Brahm's grandson, John Simms in 1969. At that time John Simms was 80 years old. He writes that "there was quite a number of graves" on the "old home place". They include "Grandpa Brahm and his first wife" The old home place was just off Circle Road in Pin Oak, Texas. I don't know myself exactly where these graves were located. I think some members of the Pin Oak Historical Society visited the site ten or fifteen years back but I was not with them. Whatever remains of the cemetery is on private property. Henry's second wife, Annie Mary Meurer is buried at St. Mary's Cemetery in Pin Oak. I am descendant of Henry Brahm and Annie Meurer's son John.

I too have Brahms and Schmitts in my family tree. I have seen the name Valentine Brahm in Chicago but never figured out if and how he was related to my line: Adam Brahm b. 1850 in Villmar, Germany and d. 1911 in Chicago, buried at Waldheim Cem. He had 3 brothers, 2 of which also came to Chicago: Johan and Henry. They were the sons of Adam Brahm and Maria Anna Schmitt, who both died in Villmar. Maria had a brother Joseph Schmitt, b.1828 Villmar and d. 1896 in Chicago, buried at St Boniface. Maria and Joseph had siblings but I only know their birth dates, nothing more. Do you know the parents or birth places of your Emma Schmitt and also Valentine Brahm?

Gail

Hi,

All of my Brahm's come from Villmar as well...and the ones I am related to settled in Wisconsin. As I understand it, 3 "clans" of Brahm's settled in Wisconsin. One clan farmed in the Cederburg area, one clan worked in the breweries in Milwaukee, and I do not have info on the 3rd.

Somewhere in my lineage (not sure where) is the name Caspari. Originally I thought Anton's father, Johann, married a Caspari...but I am not sure of this. In my line, its either Johann or Frank...I just don't remember.

You also mention Anton. I have an Anton in my direct line (g-g-grandfather). The lineage as I understand it is:

Simon -- Johann -- Anton -- Frank -- Wallace A. -- Wallace F. -- ME

I would love to hear if you have any info supporting this.

Thanks.

Bill Brahm
wbrahm1@bellsouth.net

I don't have this particular Brahm in my Caspary tree - but it doesn't necessarily mean there is no relation. Of the Brahm information that I have, I don't have anything to indicate Cedarburg - the majority of my information is a location of Germany [essentially the years before coming to America]. I have several different locations for Caspary's - did you have a particular location in mind?
Thanks!
-G

Valentine (Valton/Valentin) BRAHM was born in 1860, lived in Sheboygan, WI in the 1870 Sheboygan Census, son of Valton, who emigrated from Germany probably 1855-1860. My Valentine had a sister Mary, who married unknown Ashman, she was born 1864 in IL - her brother Valentine in 1860 WI - so it looks as thought within ten years of emigrating, they moved from WI to IL and stayed. Mary Ashman and her husband show in the 1880 Chicago census, with brother-in-law Valentine living with them. I would suggest looking in the WI censuses 1860-1880 and sorting them all out - there are a lot of Brahms in the area, all recently emigrated from Bremen, Germany, and are all very likely related.(the name Valton as a first name is a common one, worth looking into) I don't have much more than that, as the BRAHM family married into my SCHMITT family, but not a direct line, as Valentine married the sister of my ggmother. Let me know how you make out - I think you're on the right track, and it is a relative of mine. Glad to help out when you need it!!!!

Actually, have just finally found them in Chicago, and looking over my data, yes, they come from Wisconsin about 1860-1880. A family name (first) seems to be VALENTIN or VALENTINE. I have Valentine C BRAHM born 1861Wisconsin , and I recall seeing Wisconsin censuses prior to Chicago, with him in it. He married into my SCHMITT line and related to my CREIGHTON line, both of Chicago, so thought I'd offer info any BRAHM researcher would like.
Anne

Bavaria/Ohio Brahms

I am searching for information on my gggrandmother, Magdalena Brahm Hose. Her parents came from Bavaria to Ohio
where she was born approx. 1842. I have no idea what her parents' names were, but did see her listed on an index of the 1850 Hamilton Co OH census on the same page as a John Brahm-maybe her father or brother. She married William Hose in 1866. They lived in Stark Co, OH. In the 1870 census, there was a boy named Chas Brahm, age 9, living with her and William. I suspect this may have been a nephew. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Some of your information appears to be correct. There was a Henry Brahm born in Villmar, Nassau on 11 Mar. 1828, the son of Michael Brahm and Catherine Widderholt. I have no record of a marriage and suspect that may have taken place in TX. His siblings were: Johann (1822), Agnes (1823), Peter (1826), Jacob (1832) & Lambert (1833). If you think this is your Henry and wish more info on his ancestors, email me at <marpath@aero.net>

Martin was my grandfather . Martin Arnold Brahm was my father. I hope this helps.

I have about 20 Henry Brahms in my data base. If your Henry Brahm arrived in 1842 there are only 4 or 5 that could be your Henry. Of these the most likely is: Henry Brahm b. 1831 son of Simon Brahm and married to a Anna Maria (??) in 1859.

If you could give me more info on your Henry, perhaps I can pin point him for you.

Hallo !

Viele Grüße aus Old - Germany
gero

He entered through New Orleans. Others got off in New York and San Fransisco. I don't know their names . His was Henry Brahm and he settled inPin Oak , Texas near Austin in 1845.
That could be correct as Daddy called the men Uncle Henry ,
Uncle John, and Uncle Anton that these were grandpa's brothers rather than Henry's. I have a copy of Henry's wedding certificate. He married Mary Meurer on Nov.8,1860
in Bastrop county Texas. Martin, their youngest son, my grandfather was born in Smithville,Texas. His son,my dad, was born in Port Arthur, Texas on September 14,1927. I also have a copy of Henry's intention to become a citizen which states he entered the US through the port of New Orleans.
