New BRAIDWOOD/BROADWOOD DNA Surname Project

A group of BRAIDWOOD researchers have started a DNA Project with Family Tree DNA for the BRAIDWOOD surname and variants. Currently the project has participants from Scotland, Australia, and Canada. The project is open to any male bearing the name BRAIDWOOD, BROADWOOD, or any other variant believed to be related.

Through traditional genealogical research, several BRAIDWOOD and BROADWOOD lines have been documented as early as the late 1500's and early 1600's. Other lines cannot be traced earlier than the late 1700's. The main objective of the DNA project is to determine whether the several BRAIDWOOD/BROADWOOD lines are related.

There are several Y-DNA tests offered. We are encouraging all participants to take the Y-DNA37 test, which is a 37-marker test.

For more information, see our web page at:
http://www.familytreedna.com/public/Braidwood

From the web page, you can contact the project administrator.

Paul Woods
Volunteer Group Administrator
Alma Braidwood is my great, great grandfather: B. 1838, Married July 20, 1865 in Titusville, PA, died March 21, 1867 in Youngsville, PA.
I have a diary written in by Alma Braidwood and his wife,
Clara Augusta Millspaugh Braidwood from the day they were married until after the birth of their daughter Florence (Flora) Luella Braidwood (Paine).
They visited with Alma's father in Philadelpha, PA and stayed there a few weeks. So his father was a Braidwood in Philly in 1866 or 1867. Clara updated the diary on Sept. 1, 1927 in Blackwell, OK when she visited her daughter there. She stated in the diary she was 80 years old. She also cut some pages out of the diary, especially at the 1st of it. Clara remarried to Jerome Douglas and he died 1914 and he was buried in the Blackwell cemetery. Clara died in 1931 in Pasadena, California.
