Ulrich Gerhard Brake is my great-great grandfather. My great grandfather is Henry Brake. I was not aware of the child of Ulrich Gerhard named Johann Ulrich. I would be interested in any information you can share such as where you found the names of Ulrich Gerhard's parents.

My father was Richard Ralph Brake, Jr., and my mother was Margaret W Brake. Both are buried at the Brake Family Cemetery in Rocky Mount. A lot of other Brakes are buried at Pineview Cemetery in Rocky Mount. Clyde is not on the grave markers at Brake Family Cemetery, but you might check with Pineview. I was raised in Rocky Mount, NC, and I believe there are three different Brake lines in Rocky Mount. I do not recall a Clyde Brake or Richard Carlton Brake.

my name is Martha Carlene Bennett maiden name Sullivan My grandmother was Martha Ellen Hardy Sullivan, Married to Walton Garrett Sullivan. They came to Texas and both are burried in Henson cemetary in red springs near Seymour tx. She had a sister Mary Louise Hardy born in 1868, and a step sister name Magaret H. Sullivan, born in1870 married to John McCombs, Her mother was Melissa unknown who married Pleasant Sullivan.I think this is the same family.

Jeremiah Logan Brake parents were John Brake/Martha Shepperd
John Brake parents were Bennett Brake/Millie Speer
Bennett Brake parents were William Brake/Mary (Polly)
William Brake parents were Jacob Brake Jr./Absala Stallings
Jacob Brake Jr. parents were Jacob Brake(b.1728)/unknown
Jacob Brake parents were William/Mauri (from Scotland)
We have photo of Jeremiah Logan's home and Myrtle Lena Brake on a horse and other information in a book. I hope this helps. I am from the line of the brother of Jacob Brake son of William and Mauri. He moved to Virginia instead of moving south. They kept in contact and visited each other. If you have any information I would love to share it. Thank you.

One of my ancestors reportedly went to Canada at some point during the Revolutionary War as he was a Tory. He returned to Virginia and died there. His name was John Brake but possibly used another name. Do you have any information you could share with me on the Brake family?

I have been searching in vain for information on my family "Brake" in Edgecomb county, NC I know they were there from land records and there is still a town "Brake" near Rocky Mount, but haven't been able to find anything on them. I would love any information you may have.

From what I can tell, Zilphia (my line) was the daughter of William Brake, son of Jacob Jr. Brake. Other relatives have given me Kershaw Co. S.C. as her birthplace and William was there about the time she was born.

I remember that Richard had children but I do not remember their names or how many. Have you been working on the family tree for long? There are a lot of cousins in Fort Wayne that are working on the tree but they seem to be able to trace their spouse's tree easier than the Brake tree.

There is actually another child. My dad - Robert was the youngest child in that family. I am Robert's youngest child - Florence. I have just found some additional information on Ulrich Brake. It is the immagration records for him.

I am having a really hard time finding information.

It is nice to know that I am not working alone. Your dad has sent me some things. We talked a few years ago. I really enjoyed it.

I know these Burlagers must somehow be related, as they are in the same area, same time, and the name is fairly rare even here. I'd have to recheck my notes at home to see what I show as far as Margarette's siblings(if any)I have recorded.

I have found the connection between your Margarette Burlager (Margarette Burlager b. 21 Sep 1837 d. 18 Oct 1914 m. 26 Jan 1869 Bernard Masbaum b. 1839 d. 09 Aug 1917) and my Regina Burlager (b. 22 May 1835 d. 25 Sep 1907 m. 25 Nov 1856 Ulrich Gerhard Brake b. 13 Sep 1830 d. 2 Aug 1902).

They are sisters. I have this from the obituary for Regina Burlager (News Sentinel, Fort Wayne, IN) dated Sept 26, 1907, which lists survivors, among which is stated, "one sister, Mrs. Barney Masbaum."

I am the great-great grandson of Ulrich Gerhard Brake (b. 13 Sept 1830), married Regina Burlager (b. 22 May 1831).
I have that Ulrich Gerhard's parents were Heinrich Brake and Thecla Otten. Do your records have any connection between my Regina Burlager and your Margarette Burlager (b. 1837)? Sisters perhaps? In other words, do you know who were all the children of Margaret Brake & John Henry Burlager, besides Margarette?

4. Ulrich Richard Brake, Jr. b. 19 June 1930 (married Catherine Curdes)
5. John Richard Brake (me) b. 6 Dec 1954

I also have that Ulrich Gerhard's parents were Heinrich Brake and Thecla Otten. I don't have information if Ulrich Gerhard had siblings, but it's quite likely.

The children of Ulrich Gerhard were:
Johann Ulrich
Henry H.
Ulrich Herman George (my great grandfather)
Mathilda (married John Burlager)
Margaretta

It's interesting that Mathilda married a Burlager, which is also the maiden name of her mother!

Margaret Brake (b. 24 Oct 1901 d. 17 Jan 1986) was the sister of my grandfather, Ulrich Richard Brake Sr. (Ulrich Sr's son, Ulrich Jr, is my dad.) Margaret & Ulrich were son & daughter of Ulrich Herman George Brake & Mary Frances Stewart. There were eight chilren:
Ellenora
Joseph
Anna
Henrietta
Ulrich Richard, Sr.
Mary
Margaret
Gertrude

I have only faint memory of Margaret & Ed when I lived as a child in Fort Wayne (left in 1962). Please let me know how you fit into their family. Feel free to email me; my dad has done extensive research on the family which I can share.

I know that John Henry Brake married Margaret(griffe)which was my greatgrand parents and they had Maudie Astell(brake)Burcham b.4/30/1908-d.11/22/1970 married Charles James Burcham b.8/7/1907-d.4/22/1957 which was my grand-
parents and they had Hershel(Red)Witfield,James,Sidney Gordon which is my father,Obie,a sister Jeanette,and Charles(Chuck) Burcham.I also know that Maudie had a brother named Williamthat married an Ada Burcham. I also know that I have a Uncle name Witfield(wit)Burcham that married a Grodie Climber and they had a son named Kenny that married a Dorothy and two sisters named Dolly that married a Robie Self and a sister named Faith which we dont know alot about. I beleive that Dolly is in a nuring hoome in Bethelo,
Illinois and Faith may still be alive also. These Brake's are from Stewart Co. and the Burcham's are from Kadiz, Ky.

I am a Brake descendant of the three young orphan Brake boys who were sent to Newfoundland in the 1700's.

We are a small clan, predominantly boys, but triving families throughout Newfoundland.

I am from Esterwegen, and I have cousins & great cousins there that are Brakes. My grandmother was born a Brake and married into the Thomes family. I can assure you, there are many Brakes in Esterwegen, and I am still in contact with them. Last year we went to Germany, as we do every two years, and caught up as well as you can for being a long distance family. Anyway, I thought I would share my info. I live in Michigan and if you would like to contact them or I can be of more assistance, I would be more than happy to help.
